I think my Dell 2005FPW is hitting the bricks. Whenever I turn it on after it's been to sleep all night the image scrolls rapidly until it finally stabilizes and it's solid and looks fine. Should I stick with the new crop of Dells or move to another company?

My Dell 2005FPW is making GBS threads the bricks. Whenever I knock it out of sleep mode in the morning or when it hasn't been in use the screen flickers/refreshes like crazy until the video final stabilizes. It sort of looks like a projector playing everything really rapidly and eventually settling on a stable image. Would this be a video card problem or the monitor itself? In the end, I need to get it replaced, 6 years is a long drat time. Dell has a deal for a 24" ST2420L at $169 CDN. http://accessories.dell.com/sna/sna...QF2L9M-R8WOU-v1 I checked a review at CNET and they didn't like it too much. Any goons with an idea on this?

12 days of Dell deals began a couple days ago and the Ultra Sharp is on sale for $169 off. Ordered mine today for $489 CDN including PST and GST. Super stoked to FINALLY upgrade after 6 long years from my previous Dell. http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/days_of_deals?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs Check it out, not sure if the US has these too.

The 23" is on sale today for $219. Is one inch really $200 loving dollars? I feel ripped off.... http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/days_of_deals?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs EDIT: The Wii is $130, ooh.

My 24" ulrasharp came in today... oh gently caress!! This thing is gorgeous, holy poo poo! What a giant jump from my 2005FPW. Just gotta wait for my new PC to come in so I can game on the drat thing now (I'll melt my GTX275 at this resolution).

Regarding color profiles, is sRGB okay for just about anything? I like to make sure I am getting the best bang for my buck. Things look amazing (this is on the U2410) but if I can push it even more, hell let me know.

I'll switch it up tonight than, this stuff is way above my level of understanding but that is what those presets are for. Thank you once again!

My 2005FPW just started crapping out this year so you may still be good for a little longer more. Actually, the monitor was fine just that when it came back from being in hibernation the image would be like a film projector eventually producing a stable image if that makes sense.

# ¿ Jun 29, 2011 03:50 |

Were the old 2005FPW's "bad" for gaming too? I played everything on there and not once did I have problems. Dell makes solid monitors that don't gently caress around.

I don't notice any input lag with my U2410, this is playing high speed FPS games like old school DooM, newer school Crysis 2 and everything in between. I think these days unless you got super eagle vision, you won't see poo poo.

I couldn't say for sure, I have the 2010 and love it to bits. I think it was mentioned in this thread the newer one cuts some corners and lacks some of the main features. Check back a couple pages for talk on that.

I am somewhat in the same boat -- this weekend my U2410 poo poo out, it just went to black and when I turned it off and on again, it showed picture than black again. I checked the DVI, the power, and nothing fixed it. Hooked PC up to my Panasonic GT30 60" and it works fine (looks cool too but text, as expected, aint hot). So I call today and get transferred about 4 times and then disconnected because "too many people waiting". Going to try on more time but if not... well, gently caress it, aint worth the hassle. I saw a 27" IPS from LG - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX48343 - 27EA33V-B Tons of good reviews on Newegg and most places online - anyone here got info on it as well? For $250 you really cant go wrong. I have a 560TI that should easily handle the res I think along with 8GB of ram (which if needed, I can easily get more).

Ack, yeah, knew the price was too good to be true. However, I'll go check it in person and see what I think. Thankfully in stock here locally.

BrettRobb posted:I wouldn't want to sell monitors to anyone in this thread so that's probably a safe assumption. Dell has poo poo customer service and poo poo supports, there is a lot of posts out there with stories on this. It's all nice until you get burned yourself.

Sorta IT related but I figure this is the best place to ask. User here has a 30" Dell 3007WFP and just got a new Dell 7040 PC which only has display ports for monitors. The monitor itself only has DVI output. We bought a DVI to DisplayPort adapter but the max resolution is 1280 x 800. I am reading that I may need a $90+ converter with USB power to push the proper resolution of 2560 x 1600. Could I get some more insight into that?

Paul MaudDib posted:Passive adapters can go from DP outputs to DVI inputs (but you cannot go the other way around). So you should be good there. It's a Dell Optiplex 7040 (http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/optiplex-7040-desktop/pd) and its the smaller form factor here running with a Intel HD 530 (on board, these are work machines). It only has 2 displayports. So we have one smaller monitor running at it's full resolution of 1920 x 1080 via DVI to DP. The bigger one, Dell 3007WFP - runs on a dual link DVI cable using the exact same Displayport converter (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Cables/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=470-AANH) Single link tho from what I am reading now. So we can either get the cable from the sounds of it or one of these I am told: ATI 5450 512MB $45 Gforce 210 1GB $50 ATI 5450 1GB $51 ATI 6450 1GB $60 ATI 6450 2GB $80

Paul MaudDib posted:Single link is the problem there. Newegg reviews don't seem reliable. Looks like we're just buying one of the ATI cards and will run his other monitor through VGA. Thanks for the help guys.

Saukkis posted:You can probably connect the Dell to the ATI card and the smaller monitor to the HD 530, so you can avoid VGA. Oh yah? I wasn't sure how that would work but i'll try it out.

Will I really see the difference between TN and IPS when just using it for gaming and browsing? I feel I was paying a premium for IPS and at work I am positive they don't have IPS here - so TN seems ok.

Ooooh, they have this 29", 2560x1080 for only $319 CAD. And it's IPS. http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX61635 Tempting, very tempting.

Just save your pennies for the larger monitor. It'll take longer but it'll be worth it. I think I am going to do that for a sweet 144mHz gaming. Was gonna hit up 1440 at 27" but 60mHz but I think the extra bit is worth it. First buying a 1070 next week.

I was checking that BenQ as well... but all this love for G-Sync has me thinking bigger. Whats up with WQHD? I thought I read here it's just cause those companies can't use IPS name scheme?

Thank Trudeau -- im getting a big tax return and that means... NEW MONITOR. Toss up between PG279 or the XB271HU IPS, G-Sync, 144Hz It feels like they are the exact same... just gotta bounce on what I want it to look like. e: Time to watch this then... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVKeFQlYClI I should say I am coming from a 27" 1080p LG 27EA33 - so anything is an upgrade at this point. Are these ICC Profiles at TFTcentral worth a drat? http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/icc_profiles/eizo_ev2450.icc http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/eizo_ev2450.htm Also, gonna pull the plug on the ACER Predator this weekend cause it's the only one in stock locally and the 2 year replacement warranty is great at Memory Express becuase if they dont have it in they just give you a brand new monitor that is equivalent.

Although, I almost said gently caress it and considered returning the new one, selling my ACER and getting this: LG 43UD79-B I saw it in store and it was loving GORGEOUS.
