I had the pleasure of finding Kyril Kondrashin's recording of Shostakovich's Execution of Stepan Razin on Youtube a while back. It is, without a doubt, the single most underrated work by the composer. Kondrashin really manages to add a certain "coarseness" to the work that makes it stand out from other recordings and make it sound more authentically Russian: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPlBykom2CQ
