Mr. New Vegas never interacts with the player, nor does he ever directly talk to the player over the radio. He just gives the occasional news items which can be based of the player's actions in between repeats of Jingle Jangle Jingle. Which makes him feel like an actual part of the world. Unlike Three Dog who basically exists solely to praise/scold the player for doing good/evil things and give some immediate, shallow sense of reactivity.

I feel like this game crashes way more on my modern computer than the one I used to have that barely ran the game. I had the urge to play fallout 3 again but I got fed up after the game crashed part way through the overly long intro. I'm trying again with tale of two wastelands instead. I'm running no other mods on a fresh install now but I'm wondering what mods I can use to improve stability that are compatible.

Not licensing an Elvis song meant that we got the Kings, which is alright with me.

It's easy to add songs to the game, anyway. I use Extended New Vegas Radio Generator.

Well, I just started with a fresh install and followed instructions on how to get set up modding via NMM, which I used quite a bit a couple years ago for Skyrim Special Edition. The first mod I installed failed (the anti-crash one, ironically) but the rest seemed OK. But the game wouldn't launch, either through NMM or via Steam. Basically it gets to the small window with options, view data files etc - after that it basically dumps me back into Windows. So I deleted everything and want to start over. My only goal here is to install JSawyer and some mods which make it look awesome on my new ultrawide monitor. So I wanted some texture packs and a few other bits and pieces. Ideally, also a mod which prevents that retarded enemy scaling where I can empty an entire machine gun clip into a mutant's face at close range and it damages about 10% of his health.

When I'm doing a fresh install, I usually start by putting in the script extender, and then NVAC. From there I'll install Yukichigai's Unnoficial Patch and Unofficial Patch Plus, and then JIP NVSE Plugin. Depending on how performance runs on your comp, try the New Vegas Stutter Remover (and follow instructions pinned on the mod's comments section to get it set up properly for Windows 10). Get the Mod Configuration Menu, and then install CASM to handle your autosaves. After that, get User Interface Organizer, and depending on your taste, grab the Darnified UI. That should be your bare minimum for stability and foundations for further modding. If it doesn't load, try deactivating each mod one by one to see where the hitch is happening.

I'm running Windows 7, with an NVIDIA GTX 1070 and 16GB ram, usually able to run newish games at very decent quality. I'll try the order you suggested. Does NMM factor in there at all?

Nmm is fine for what you seem to want from your game, though I and the rest of the thread will definitely suggest using Mod Organizer if you want to get more in depth. I like using both on different games depending on how extensive my modding goes. There is also LOOT, which is extremely handy for sorting the plugins tab for compatibility reasons, but again that's more for really big load orders. If you're just doing JSawyer's mod and the stability fixes I listed above you shouldn't really need it. Not yet at least. Edit: before I forget, get the 4gb patch as well.

Cool, will do. Yep, just JSawyer + stability + a bunch of graphics improvements. Can you suggest one mod that sorts out combat balance? Like I said, I hated the way you could come up against enemies later in the game where an entire clip from a machine gun at close range would barely hurt them. That's not fun.

Project Nevada. It's compatible with JSawyer's mod and extremely modular so you can turn off pretty much all its features. It has an options menu that gives you the ability to tweak health and damage. Most importantly it has an option for the head to require a hemelt with DT or it will take full damage. Makes popping skulls very viable.

A "headshots are instant kills on humans" mod makes holdout weapons in the casinos more viable if you want to start trouble. I did the Gomorrah quest with Millennia's FN M1905 by popping every guard in my way in the forehead with a .22 round.

What are some good weapons mods? Doesn’t really have to follow a certain theme, just be well balanced and fun. I see nexus has individual guns for download, but I’m looking for a package of them.

No idea about the Steam version but with the GOG versions it runs like a dream. Having true iron sights, DT/DR and all the other QoL improvements from NV in the capital wasteland without needing mods is a big plus but the most noticable difference is the working LOD. FO3s LOD is broken, even if you regenerate it. FNVs isn't, so stepping out of the vault in the Capital Wasteland is an actual eye opener because you can see and identify poo poo in the distance. In short, I can't think of any reason why anyone would NOT use TTW to play through FO3/FNV again.

I got the same itch* about a week ago and installed TTW. I played through Fallout 3 and NV years ago when they were fairly new and I never installed any mods so this was my first foray into modding either game. I followed the instructions and had no problems. I even installed several other mods that are TTW-compatible and I only had trouble with one graphical mod. I'm playing through Fallout 3 right now and I've only had a few crashes; all have occurred when loading into new areas so they're slightly annoying but it only takes a minute to restart the game and load the autosave so it's not a big deal. * My itch was only for Fallout 3 but I gave up on getting it to run with modern mods, especially the script extender, on Windows 10. TTW solves that problem.
