After watching part of a YouTube series I decided to go back and play New Vegas again. I remembered Project Nevada and have been playing with it and some other things from the OP mod list, but I've seen some comments about PN being replaced by new stuff. Is this accurate or just people promoting their own favorite mods?

PN still works fine, more or less, but some people find it can lead to poor performance and theres other mods that can replicate its effects with less of an alleged performance hit.

I've looked into a few replacements but I can only find a few (standalone Cybernetics, but there's stuff I have that requires PN-Cybernetics so I don't think I can replace them), and nothing that changes what I like the most, the combat adjustments (I set DT reduction to 99% max)

Thanks, that is useful.

Just really wish that they didn't use Johnny Guitar, the nexus page for it just skeeves me.

Big stability issues though. I'm generally finding that after five or six new zones the game will crash out while transitioning between areas.

All of the DLC is good, Dead Money is very different and a little weird because of it, HH and OWB are open explorations that are really good. OWB is full of very dunny dialouge and lots of overt comedy, HH is more of an introspective journey. Still lots kf good writing, especially the Survivalist stuff. Lonesome Road is a much more linear DLC and a bit of a slog at times, also fairly polarizing because of Ulysses.

OWB also features Not Dr Venture for fans of that show.

I think the new NVSE definitely made my game even more unstable. It's now crashing on average every three zone transitions, sometimes even less.

Entirely possible, no idea which one though. I updated some and removed some really old ones but still isn't any more stable as far as I can tell.

Bouncing between F:NV and F4 really makes the strengths and weaknesses of both stand out more. More F4 than NV, though there are some aspects of 4 that I really like.

First and foremost is power armor. The frame system in 4 just feels incredible and beefy compared to 'just another suit of armor' in 3/NV. I like the weapon modding of 4 as well and the settlement system (most significantly with mods like Sim Settlement).

DT is a much better mechanic for combat than just DR, helped by me running a mod that lets DT reduce the damage to pretty much nothing. Weapon degradation is an annoyance and can go away.

NV's story is definitely better and so are a number of the locations. The extra factions are rather nice and feel distinct and interesting and the radio in NV is better, mostly because 4 reuses a number of songs from 3. The ammo choices (esp. with GRA) are rather clever and interesting.

NV in the FO4 engine with power armor and weapon modding (but the ammo of NV) would be fantastic.

Just wish I could figure out what's making NV crash so much.

It's you, the target market who prompts every mod decision about ammo that drives me insane, I just want bullets for my gun to be a single stacking thing.

You mean you don't like the +P AP DualShok++ Boat-tailed with brass core rounds that my 10001 extra ammo types mod adds?

Nah, I like a couple of extra options (Running OC in most of the energy weapons but MC in my gauss rifle, for example), though like the weapon modification system in F4 there often is a 'best' option.

I think that is part of what BLEED tries to do.

One Inch Punch can be pretty crazy with the melee/unarmed weapons that have a high crit chance multiplier.

Edit: After some testing it appears that BLEED is what was causing most of the instabilities. Hopefully that's it.

Found the answer earlier regarding the wabbajack so I've got a new Q.

Way back when Project Nevada was new one of the changes I really enjoyed was the tweak to DT and damage reduction to increase the maximum damage reduction, allowing for high-DT armor to feel mostly invulnerable to low-damage weapons (1 damage plinks only). Is there something that does that now that's not a mess?

I did VNV with a few additions from LINV. I also added in Bleed and Threshold.

I just set up VNV for a friend and added both Cyberware 2281 and Threshold on top of it. No issues.

Also consider a better home mod for wherever you decide to make your home location and the stash organizer mod as well for it. Kinda blanking on the name for the mod but it lets you set up container sorting however you want them in game and allows for crafting from storage.

Also in the base game there's a maximum reduction of 80%, though this can be modded.

That maximum reduction means the 5mm will always do at minimum 3.6 damage per hit, which is why it can still chew through heavy armor thanks to its RoF.

Yep, as soon as I grabbed the tape off the brotherhood person in Repconn HQ she said hi. And now ED-E has a new laser! I do miss the old skin with the license plate though, I thought that was cute.

New question: how good are the non-SPECIAL implants? I started with 7 so I can get 7, and I got Luck and Intelligence already after getting tossed out of the Atomic Wrangler. There's a note on the wiki that the health regen one is possibly good for Dead Money, what about the duraplating one? I could skip Charisma obviously, and maybe skip Endurance itself, since that's already at 7. A bit worried about longtime cap income though, my mods are effectively making selling all the guns I come across pretty low-income, so I might be out of big sources after casinos, snowglobes, and eventually gold bars.

e: snowglobes give 2k not 1k like I thought and casinos are a LOT so I'm probably okay unless some quest is a giant cap sink somewhere.

The monocyte one is 1hp/10s recovery, which isn't really fantastic outside of helping you top off small HP losses, though it can be more useful in hardcore mode. The dermal implant is a straight +4 DT.

Personally I use the Cybernetics mod that spun off from Project Nevada. Adds in a bunch more implants that you can find or buy and removes the END limit, replacing it instead with a slot system (2x head/chest and 1 in each arm and limb) that you can double with different perks. You can also swap out implants at many doctors.
