I liked it but I can see where people would get bored with it. The action is well done but people think the lack of plot, designs and fast pacing make it tedious. Watch it and make up your own mind, the first episode is only 30 minutes.

I was looking through what Moon Phase has up and I just realized that only three mecha TV anime are slated to come out for the rest of the year. Sacred Seven, Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere and Appleseed XIII. Also the fact that since we're almost to the middle of the year no more will probably be announced for 2011.

Happy Tomino doing Ideon would just end up being weird.

From what I've heard while he didn't do the series composition or write any of the scripts Nagano wrote the character back stories when he was doing design work. FSS came about because Nagano was disappointed in L.Gaim as a series.

Aquarion Evol gots an air date, sort of. It's coming out in January. Unlike the first Aquarion this one seems to have a second director with Kawamori acting as series director. Probably a good thing. Well it would be but the only other things Yusuke Yamamoto helmed were Welcome to the NHK, Sgt. Frog, a porn OVA and some show about a ferret.

Also Hiroshi Ohnogi and Kawamori don't seem to be writing this time. Mari Okada is and while she does mostly adaptations she did the composition for Fractale and Sasami Magical Girls Club...

None of this is imparting hope on me.

In other news the rest of the staff is out.

Animation Director: Yasuhiro Nakura (Angel's Egg, Metropolis)
Key Animation: Atsushi Yamagata (Spirited Away, Colorful) and Yoko Kadokami (Gundam F91, Twelve Kingdoms)
Art Director: Hiromasa Ogura (Ghost in the Shell movie, Wings of Honneamise)
Sound Director: Kazuhiro Wakabayashi (all of Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke)
Music: Seikou Nagaoka (Tenchi, Stellvia)

To put all of this in perspective the only anime movie I know of that was animated by one guy was Midori a 47 minute long 1992 work of a crazy man which took five years and his entire life savings.

While I don't doubt that Nagano did most of the key art I'm not going to begrudge him two extra hands and a guy to check their work on something that's going to be 70 minutes (they still don't know for sure but that's the last number they released) and has taken the last eight or so years.

I'm pretty sure that two warring factions in space realized that there were robots on earth and sent people to keep them from the other side. One side got there first but found they couldn't use them so decided to tell the earth governments that the other side was invading so that pilots would be found for them. The robots probably have a Xenoglossia thing going on where they pick their pilots, which since Shigeru Morita was involved in both show's concept creation it makes sense.

I'm enjoying the show but it's pretty middle of the road out side of the art and animation so far.

The Nissan robots are growing on me though.

New Eureka Seven AO characters.

Guyver
Dec 5, 2006

Yeah, it is.

And someone on /m/ posted a translation of the text that Yaraon put up with those pictures.

quote:

The new character designer for Eureka Seven AO is the Ore no Imouto guy and the show will have a primarily female cast. Story summary:

The setting is "Earth" in the year 2025 A.D. The story is about Ao and his friends fighting against monsters known as Secret. "Generacion Bull" is a private military company in the business of defeating Secrets, and they have assembled IFO (Intelligence Flying Object) pilots with great skills - all of which are girls since only females can pilot IFOs. Ao is the only male with capable of piloting IFOs and he is the only guy in Generation Bull.

The first new character shown is a 16 year old girl from France called Flair. She's the leader of Team Piped Piper, and sees Ao as a rival. The second new character is a 15 year old girl from America called Elena. She's a geek girl and little bit of a klutz, also a member of Team Piped Piper.

Edit: It's Infinite Seven... Eureka Stratos?

It was originally said to be that, but these now plot summaries sound like anything but a sequel to the TV series.
The dates about right because we've seen dates close to it in the original series. We know that Ao is from Okinawa so it's not a stretch to have characters from France and the Americas. Then again the manga mentions the Japanese military, which while it could be a mistranslation, could mean the that manga is separate and different from the anime with it having different terms for Ao's mech.

We're just going to have to wait for clarification from the 16th announcement that Triggerhappypilot posted about.

Mecha in general is less obscure and misunderstood than it is not cared about. No one but robot fans buys mecha for for mecha and that's not a lot of people. For your average buyer walking down the isle fanservice isn't a barrier that people on the internet make it out to be. Not only isn't fanservice a barrier it's pretty much the show's best selling point out in the wild. There's a reason Gravion and it's sequel got five collected releases and stuff like Imagawa's Tetsujin 28 were dead on arrival.

You're misremembering the gossip. The story was that Maria Kawamura rejected Tomino's advances after he cast her in just about everything he made in the 80s for Nagano, who she later married in 1991, and that depressed Tomino depressed Tomino enough to make Victory Gundam. It should be noted that Tomino has been married since the 70s and a father since the early 80s. Tomino also cast Maria again later in Brain Powerd when he got back on the directing horse.

It's bullshit.
