They'll run for a long time, but you'll have weird issues with them in between, especially when you try to make them perform outside of their original specifications. Actually modern BMWs and Audis are really easy to overclock. For many of them you just need a BIOS flash.

If AMD went down, the administrators would sell off all the assets. It would require someone else to outbid Intel for the AMD64 instruction set before there would really be a problem. If I were a patent troll, that would definitely be one I would be keeping an eye on, however.
