So the Taurians have begun to withdraw from Impact Point Zero, and it's pretty much going to be a shootout between the half lances of the DNS Militia and the Capellans now... Not really sure who to root for here, since the DNS pair have grown on me, as have the Capellans. The latter were the ones who went for the backstab first, though, so I guess that swings my opinion in the DNS militia's favor. I hope that Anne Bellard survived getting another mech getting shot out form under her here... The Watchman going crazy in an attempt to avenge her is pretty awesome, though, if a bit shortsighted and foolhardy. In other news on that front, the Raven losing its Left Torso and attendant weapons there looks like it'll hurt, but the Drillson being immobilized pretty much makes up for that. Don't think TMM's eponymous vehicle is long for this world here...

So thread advice time. I'm kind of unsure what to do next. I could just jump away and make the cappies play hunt the griffin but that is boring and unfun and leaves our enfield alone to take the heat but I don't see any better options.

The Enfield can die from a single gauss to the CT, so I think if it's left alone they'll ignore you despite your open torso w/ ammo and hunt the Enfield. Try to put damage on the Wolverine if you can, it's closer to breaking as well as closer up. The odds being against you given the existing damage (assuming you can't get behind them), high-risk unstable payouts are more profitable than a conservative strategy.

Seems to me that the Gauss Rifle's range precludes running away from it. Focus firing on the Wolverine looks to be the best choice, you want to do everything you can to support the Enfield.

quote:“El-tee’s gone off the deep end,” Sergeant Peter Sommers said in low tones as he watched his commanding officer’s `Mech leap after the retreating enemy Phoenix. The Watchman, battered by enemy fire, didn’t seem to have a chance against a bigger, undamaged enemy `Mech; but Sommers knew that looks could be deceiving. The Phoenix was built for long-range combat, if the Lieutenant could stay close he’d have a decent chance. I cannot describe how happy this turn of events makes me :P

Her Enfield lurched as a lucky hit nearly jammed the `Mech’s gyro with shrapnel. She staggered, her shots going wild. It didn’t matter, a flight of missiles from the Taurian tank struck the enemy Huron Warrior in the chest. Its outline on the thermals seemed to explode although the view through the front canopy was a little more disappointing. The missiles had knocked some engine shielding loose, or perhaps crippled some heat sinks. Typical of Capellan workmanship. “The Capellans attacked us,” she said, thumbing the transmit button. “The Taurians have backed off.” “I was hoping they’d join us, but to hell with them,” Commander Osei said in reply. “We can’t afford to lose either of you. Withdraw for now, we can’t afford to lose any `Mechs.” “Aye, sir,” Bellard’s left eyebrow twitched involuntarily, his face contorting into an inhuman grimace. His reply was mechanical, apathetic. “Laguerre’s crippled. Sommers overheating. They’re faster. Can’t break free.” “Lost Anne.” “I’m sorry, Dorian. Follow the plan and the rest of you should make it. Welp, that Raven is all but toast now. Didn't help that it attempted to kick something higher than it was, and got kicked in the head for its troubles... With the loss of its other torso, it no longer can scan those bunkers, and now India Recon has to bug out. At least the Raven scragged the Drillson while eating all that damage, but in return, Drillson put some serious hurt on the Blackjack in its dying throes. I know Lt. Bellard has his new orders, but I think he'd want very much to smoke that Phoenix in order to avenge his wife having her mech shot out from under her. If they withdraw, how will they recover her? Things aren't going so well for the DNS pair at Impact Point Zero either. The Enfield has a completely open Center Torso and now a damaged Gyro, so if the Capellan pair decide to concentrate fire, she won't be long for this world. The Huron Warrior has a damaged engine now due to the Hunter's fire, and I wonder how long that thing is going to be there unmolested as the two GoonHalfLances battle it out amongst themselves. The Cronus is also there sitting pretty, but he probably won't move to intervene until one side had wrecked the other and he swoops in to finish off the victors. Not many good choices there for either side, I think.

Tense update! Some player status pages corrections: Wolverine: LT 11/20 Armor Huron Warrior: Engine Hit, CT 17/22, RT 11/17 Armor, RA 11/16 Armor, Enfield: Gyro Hit, CT 5/16 Structure, RL 4/24 Armor, RA 1/16 Armor Blackjack: Medium Laser LA - Blown Off --- What direction on Impact Point Zero would the DNS and Capellans retreat off, respectively? Probably south for the DNS. I'm still hoping for a DNS pilot to shrivel up from radiation, an SRM hit opening up a small 1-point breach would be perfect... (nothing personal players, TDF Ho!) Not sure whether those incoming reinforcements are on a strategic or tactical scale, if the former I'd just jump back with both mechs and kill the Plainsman. And I probably shouldn't say it, but wouldn't it be relatively easy for the Watchman to push the Phoenix off the board? I'm counting +4 Move modifiers from a +3 jump and a +1 Walk for a total of 9 to hit. That's a 10/36 chance of eliminating a pristine Phoenix in one go. Though I suppose that also involves a PPC at 10, two MLs at 12, two SRM-2s at 8, a kick from the Phoenix and poor placement for the next round, hardly withdrawing all in all. Though if you win and the Raven and Blackjack also go against orders and finish off the Plainsman it'd be just the Cicada left, which would be a bitch to kill with a vulnerable Watchman and Blackjack, and only half the weapons on the latter, but you'd probably win with initiative. If you just want to run and save your wife you might want to jump to 1214 outside of the Phoenix's LoS, fight the Cicada and you'll be two hexes from where the Firebee was blown up. You could ignore fighting the Phoenix (or if it's possible fight it simultaneously while) and look for her cockpit to just pick it up and go. For sure us Taurians will hole it if you leave it, once we fish up to Toro and find the Quasit's cockpit. Readingaccount fucked around with this message at 11:22 on Oct 21, 2013 |

It's only got 16 SRM missiles before we factor in the SRM-6s will probably get 4 hits and the SRM-2s will probably average to 1.5 hits. The most average scenario is probably a hit by one SRM-6 and one SRM-2, if we assume that'll net a total of 6 SRM hits for 11 damage/heat the Blackjack will probably survive it. With a 75% chance of hitting the CT per missile the Raven is probably a coinflip to die before the crits (so it probably goes), but that's a good trade for the Plainsman and preferable to damage to the Blackjack. The Plainsman otoh is probably around 75% to die overall. Further north there's a 15/36 chance of killing a pristine Phoenix needing an 8 (thanks MM) and thus getting back into the lead... Perhaps the Phoenix moved to the edge as bait for the Watchman's to move into open territory with an exposed torso, but it's made itself far more vulnerable than it gains. Granted it's still barely like to fail, but it's a 41.7% chance to leave only one untouched jumper in the battle, and if it fails and the Watchman hasn't exploded it's just one jump to get into the woods to support the retreat. What's more romantic though, killing the Phoenix or getting her cockpit? Probably killing it and then getting the cockpit, but if that push fails you'll probably need the Blackjack to get it for you. But if they've gone to kill the Plainsman they'll be another round out. Complicated decision, but it still mostly boils down to clear options; very high likelihood to eradicate the plainsman for some 12 damage/heat meaning damage to the Blackjack or a coinflip to lose the crippled Raven. 40% chance to kill the Phoenix for one round's exposure to a Kick at 7, 2 SRM-2s at 8, two MLs at 12 and a PPC at 10, all reasonably high numbers for 42/36 hits. >Kick fixed. Yes, the Cicada's weapons are included. Readingaccount fucked around with this message at 21:59 on Oct 21, 2013 |

Kicks are -2, so the kick's @ 7. Are you counting the PPC and MLs as from the Cicada? If so, there's the minimum range Phoenix PPC as well, but that's not terribly important, I suppose. Unless it winds up being so. While the Raven is a wobbly exposed CT, both the Blackjack and the Raven are one head hit away from a crispy pilot - SRMs are not what you want to face in that situation.

Not attacking close up probably means the survival of the Plainsman, and immediate low-odds SRM flights against the Blackjack at 11 (I think), and if it survives the Plainsman will undoubtedly chase after, meaning more damage overall. The primary concern might be that it takes them south. Readingaccount fucked around with this message at 22:08 on Oct 21, 2013 |

Somebody else already won the blaze of glory award, might as well try not to completely balls up the last, limping leg of the mission. Also you kept forgetting your pilot's personal mission in pursuit of a few shots, and all you got out of it in return is getting your arms blown off. The only reason why you're out of weapons is because you forgot the number one rule of Battletech: Speed is life. Move as far as you can to make yourself harder to hit. Slowing down to get a good shot off on someone, while you're in a light, is just silly talk.
