Magni posted:Shouldn't the Trout Chameleon that just got ripped up by the Kodiak have to take a piloting check for taking more than 40 damage in one round? I think PTN is playing with that rule ignored for this mission because of the massive number of mechs to keep track of here and the huge damage potentials being thrown around. It's the same reason that mechs that have lost a leg are considered to be out of the fight, even if they still have weapons they can use. Not a bad turn, as a Hunchback goes down due to a Dire Wolf blowing off its leg, though there's still an Ace Hunchback up north (with it's big gun possibly useless due to a weapon jam, but maybe not). Ace Coyote buggered off the map, though it might possibly return like the Locusts that previously retreated like PTN hinted would happen. TAG fails to connect once again, as another Arrow IV salvo goes to waste, along with much of the Ebon Jaguar's other weapons as poor dice rolling strikes once more and the Ace Crab gets another turn to live and put more hurt on the Jaguar, though it didn't seem to do much of that this turn. The Kraken is outmaneuvered by the Ace Coyote, with no line of sight for its remaining launchers this turn. Kodiak seems to have severely damaged a Chameleon, and is in position to lay more beats onto Trout mechs in the area, if they don't overwhelm it first, though with his berserk fury negating a pilot hit, it seems like Star Captain Ferris Bekker will be ok for now. The Dire Wolf down south looks like it'll have it's choice of targets soon, though the lance of Coyotes moving up there concerns me. The updates are taking longer than usual already, simply because of the sprites. I still roll piloting when something takes critical damage that provokes it but even then there're enough things going on that I'm simply not tracking when something's been dealt 'massive damage' at the moment.

The guy in the mountain lion last scenario had it (maybe), and something was said about getting to ignore some piloting checks.

A quick shows the damaged Chameleon lost one arm and luckily has the shoulder crit in the other arm. So that means both LLs close to gone. I'm sure he has a few more guns though. And that blasted TAG.

I doubt I will have LOS on the Crab from 2223, which is where I am moving to, due to the forests in the way. I'm hoping to fire on it once the Ebon Jaguar lands a TAG hit on it. But if he doesn't or if he misses, it doesn't seem like there are any targets I can really go for, since without a TAG my to-hits on the Crab will probably be astronomical, right?

Actually thats for SGed. I believe PTN told me it takes out the indirect fire +1, but I'm not 100% on that. Quite possible I'm imagining it. But yes, indirect fire is pretty nasty dice wise, and give me +1 to hit as well. Ahh I found the rule in question. It states that I can use the TAG to spot and not get the +1 to hit for my mech. Otherwise it's the same. Basically it's worth it if the Crab is in short range (9s, 10s or so, depending on various factors), not so much at medium. No, it eliminates the extra +1 penalty if the spotter shoots in the turn it spots. The +1 indirect fire penalty and spotter movement penalties all still happen.

It would be something like ... 2 base +0/2 range + 2 running + 1 spotter movement + 1 indirect fire + enemy move/void (lets say +3). You don't suffer from the forest hexes in the way, only from cover between me and the target. So 9s or 10s if the Crab is in short range, 11s or 12 if he's in medium. YMMV, its a little complex, and depends on where the Crab moves.

Ultimatum: Tactical Update 23 “Mechwarrior Crow, I am no longer receiving your targeting information. Mechwarrior Crow, please respond—” “He has been dead for quite some time,” Xephon Siegel growled. He had the honor of piloting an ancient but well-maintained Atlas rumored, as was every other Atlas still fielded by the Clans, to be one of the machines once piloted by Kerensky himself. Xephon knew for a fact his machine had never been piloted by the greatest Mechwarrior in history but his decision to pilot it over an OmniMech was symbolic. The Atlas was distinct: it stood out and proved his bravery. “Apologies, Galaxy Commander,” the tank crewman prattled. “I have been launching fire missions at his directive—” “You Snow Ravens have too much love for the sound of your own squawking. Be silent, freebirth. Real warriors have no need for the support of tanks or the genetically inferior.” “A—aff, Galaxy Commander. It is as you say.” “I said be silent,” Xephon’s eyes swept the battlefield, taking in the devastation. Snow Raven forces had been decimated in less than four minutes. Xephon shook his head, Clan forces had been decimated in less than four minutes. That it was a surprise attack shouldn’t have mattered: no Inner Sphere force should have been capable of such a feat. It was unthinkable, perverse, and an unClanlike loss. For the first time in his life, Xephon started to question the value of the centuries-old alliance his Clan had forged with the Snow Ravens. “Apologies, Galaxy Commander,” the Freebirth persisted. “I will put myself on report.” Xephon’s eyebrow twitched in annoyance, “Freebirth: if you do not cease talking immediately, you will not live to do so.” Movement Phase Kraken 3 - Attempts to enter hex 2223!
