Leperflesh posted:This is a cool idea. PTN, do you have megamek files for some of the custom mechs that PTN-universe factions have fielded? It'd be cool to have some lances that bring out some of those, since this is meant to be simulating in-universe scenarios. Speaking of custom mechs, if anyone wants to field any of the goon-made mechs in MegaMek I've taken the liberty of using MML to make .mtf files for all of them. You can find them all here. The archive includes all of the entries for the Draconis Suns / Capellan Confederation contest that took place a while back, as well as the Specialist Mech Contest that took place more recently. Now you too can run a campaign where KnoxZone's mighty Mackie defends the delicious culinary perfection produced by the Schreck Bistro from the evil Clanners attempting to claim it for themselves. Just a quick caveat for anyone wanting to use these mechs; the custom HVAC rounds, iLK missiles and Improved Heat Sinks don't exist in MML so some of the units aren't as effective as they should be.

Thanks Scintilla! My SSW saves are showing duplicates so it's been hell trying to assemble all of them. I'll take a quick look once I get home and make sure everything looks good, then add this to the main post if everything's fine. Just a reminder, especially regarding the AUTRO Clan `Mechs: Be sure to count them as Experimentals. I know they don't seem too bad, but I'm not convinced they're really balanced by BV 2.0 And if anyone actually has a Wolf Spider variant survive to the end of a fight (it hasn't happened yet), I want to know about it. First person who does so scores their faction a bonus point!

Trial By Fire: Tactical Update 14 “Shut it off already, Jaime.” “Not until the fight ends,” the speaker sat relaxed, his long legs crossed and the fingers of his left hand resting on his bald chin. Clear, calm eyes swept the holotank as though hunting for subtle nuances in each Mechwarrior’s performance. His face was passive and thoughtful; he hadn’t moved much since the defeat of Lieutenant Lanier’s entire lance. The plain olive of his uniform was well-kept but worn. “None of them is leadership material,” his companion grizzled. Colonel Tyrone was an effective field officer, he drove his men and women hard and his regiment’s survival rate was commensurately higher as a result. He cared, for all his harshness, but he was also myopic. If Tyrone had his way, the 331st would’ve never taken in an adoptee who’s skills weren’t already honed to a razor’s edge. Tyrone scowled, “and the fight’s already over.” “I have hopes for this one,” Colonel Jaime was more relaxed. He reached into the holotank and tapped its surface, poking his finger through the immobile figure of a defeated machine. “The outcome isn’t as certain as it looks, but the cadets just sacrificed their initiative and let Lieutenant Vanura take strong defensive positions. She’s got the firepower and the coverage—I’d say her advantage is complete, but that still doesn’t guarantee a victory.” “I will say,” Jaime continued, as though expecting his opinion to be controversial, “that her decision to hold the Woodsman in reserve turned out to be a good choice after all: it’s become the linchpin of her defense. I’d like to see if she can win this without losing a single member of her lance.” Another man shifted, looming over the holotank like a vengeful god. “If she’d charged with Lanier, the fight would’ve been over by now.” Colonel Jaime nodded, “One way or another, that’s true. But if she had, I’d be calling the competence of two lieutenants into question instead of just the one. In the war to come, the 331st can’t afford any “all-or-nothing” attacks. We are at neither a technological nor a numerical parity with our enemies. Even if we were, sacrificing everything just to beat them would be a fool’s errand.” The radio crackled, the voice emanating within was small and tinny. “Watcher-4 to Burrow, they’re moving out of direct observation range. Permission to advance?” Jaime sat up, seizing the microphone before one of the other assembled Colonels could countermand him. “Negative, Watcher-4. They’re nervous enough already, let’s see how they do without mother hen.” “Roger,” Watcher-4’s Cicada held position, like a black-and-white painted statue atop one of the solid ferrocrete pillars the training grounds used to represent buildings. “Hmh,” Tyrone grunted. “Won’t they just give up if they think we’ve already decided their fate?” “Haven’t you?” Jaime replied. “The Republic trains great Mechwarriors, but none of them have been in a real fight before. I want to see how they handle having the rug pulled out from under them. I want to see how they fight when they’ve got nothing else to lose.” Combat Phase Crab (Player) - Torso-twists to threaten hex 0719! - Fires ER Large Laser at Cargo Container 0419 (3 base + 0 range + 2 movement - 4 enemy movement = 1): automatically hit (7/15 durability remaining)! - Fires ER Large Laser at Cargo Container 0419 (3 base + 0 range + 2 movement - 4 enemy movement = 1): automatically hit (0/15 durability remaining)! - Fires ER Medium Laser at Cargo Container 0419 (3 base + 0 range + 2 movement - 4 enemy movement = 1): target already destroyed! - Fires ER Medium Laser at Cargo Container 0419 (3 base + 0 range + 2 movement - 4 enemy movement = 1): target already destroyed! - Gains heat 36, sinks 36! So my experiment into Lego robits has revealed a few flaws, but even so... I now have a Lego robit Should I do a full writeup, if anyone is curious as to how to do so fairly easily though requiring dosh (the one I have all-told cost me $120, inc. shipping) Or go straight to the 'guess the 'Mech'?

Orcs and Ostriches posted:If it's not a crab it's the wrong mech. Maybe next on the list, I've been considering getting another 2/3 at the same time, save on bulk shipping. Plus I'm missing a few parts on the current one- my method missed about a dozen bricks out of 660 total. How to LEGO BattleMech There are 3 links you'll use- BrickCommander, specifically this page, for the designs. The blokes there have done the hard work and built the models in 3D rendering software, and some of them (can't confirm 'all') even contain step-by-step instructions MLCAD, the actual software for rendering the designs. A fairly simple LEGO builder, it'll let you view the design plus get a list of parts required Bricklink, an online swapmeet for LEGO. I've not found a website to generate custom orders of LEGO in bulk, so this is your best bet. All you need to do is create an account, build a wishlist, and find some sellers with the parts you need. Getting a parts list When you download a 'Mech design, you'll see it has several files- the designs are segmented into large components, each having their own file and then one that combines them into the finished design. To get a parts list from this is a tedious process, simple to do just time consuming First, fire up the first component file. Under File, select Save Parts List, then make sure it saves as a .csv file. Do this for every component. Then open up a spreadsheet (Excel or OpenOffice, whatever) to import those .csv's for editing. You'll have to import them and make sure they delimit correctly Now comes the tedious part, though it may be optional- to shorten the list by dumping duplicate entries. I'm sure there's a function to compile them, but I just ran through it manually. What you want to end up with is a list of parts, with only one entry per part per colour, with the number of pieces required (summed up from all the entries) You can get away without doing so and save yourself a lot of time, but I prefer getting the entries compiled to reduce confusion of 'what'd I order?' I'll finish this up this arvo, there's an Excel function I used that converts the parts list to something Bricklink will accept for the Wishlist, which is a godsend for finding sellers. In the meantime, hips that don't lie and legs that go all the way up-

PoptartsNinja posted:Ahh, it's (probably) a Nova. Nice. Not quite... Uploading a wishlist to Bricklink Bricklink uses .xml formatting for any bulk uploads. As an example, here's the one from their site they use- code:
Here's how it goes- First, the 'Colour' sheet has the codes for all the colours, since MLCAD exports the name, while Bricklink uses code. The 'Code' sheet is what you ultimately export to .txt or .csv once you're done 1- The full list of bricks is copied into 'Parts', with the # required, colour and part number entered (brick name isn't needed here, but is best kept to track when you get the bricks) It then converts the colour to the code number 2- Make sure the Function in 'Code' covers all the bricks, if the list is longer than what I have just click/drag it down. 3- While in the 'Code' sheet, Save As and make it a .csv file 4- Open the .csv file in Notepad, and add in the <INVENTORY> switches to the round it out. 5- Copy and paste it to the Wishlist uploader here- http://www.bricklink.com/wantedXML.asp And then Verify It will run through the list and make sure everything matches. And this is where it gets annoying and you'll need this site- http://rebrickable.com/parts Bricklink sometimes has different codes for some bricks, which means it will give an error. The only option is to dig through that .csv for the ones giving an error, copy the code to Rebrickable and find what Bricklink actually calls it- change the codes, run through the Verify stage again, and once you have no red errors you can upload it. Using the Wishlist to get LEGO After all that tedium, now it's somewhat easy. Once the wishlist is up, go to By Store and it will show which stores have stocks that match what you want. Select a seller, then click 'Show All Items this store has on my Wanted List' and there you go. You can also browse to the wishlist and try searching by which stores have specific parts, which is handy for harder to find ones. As an aside- 4x4 turntables, somewhat thin on the ground and you want to make sure the top/bottom matches... mine doesn't, I forced it in but it won't turn Welp, it's really just for show, plus it's too unstable as is. So yeah, buying the bricks isn't hard, just take some time, get good bulk deals. My costs were a bit inflated since one bloke required a few superfluous parts to meet his minimum, so it can be worth hunting for less common parts first, as opposed to finding the guy who has the most matches but lacks things like masses of specific coloured tiles or the aforementioned turntable, which had one seller for the top and another for the bottom, hence the problem. And that's really it. Get the bricks, make sure they gave you everything, make sure you got the parts to build your robot, then use MLCAD to Save Image(s) if you want to cheat a bit and get a set of instructions. And Roberts your mothers brother

I suck at suspense, also the models are really distinctive from each other- BC guys do good work Few things- the balance is perfect so long as it's at the right position- lean a bit in one direction, it flops and breaks apart. I've added some bits to make it more stable, but it still needs work. Was considering working on a Crab next (which might be a few weeks/months away) and I asked a mate... she just said 'AtlasAtlasAtlas' everytime. I'm considering it, open to other 'Mechs relevant to this thread (hence the Stormcrow and Crab being first on the list)
