Gwaihir posted:The Huron Warrior is probably the best target, since it only got a +2 move mod, has the dangerous Gauss Rifle, and has relatively light armor. Agreed. Also, perhaps I should jump to 1129 instead, since it'll leave me safe from a bunch of nasty crap, like the short range of the Huron's gauss, whilst still being in short range of the Lao Hu with my own gauss and mediums lasers.

I feel obligated to point out that while the Clans are clearly a league above, several stockpiles of Star League-grade retard strength had indeed managed to survive the Succession Wars throughout the history of the Inner Sphere and were fiercely coveted by mercenaries, noble scions, and ComStar.

Admittedly it was by possibly the most pragmatic Clan of them all, who structures their Touman and tactics in a far more modern military sense than any of the others, but a win is a win. And the other win was by a Clan that did stick to Zellbrigen for that fight, though doing so was very deliberate decision. The fact that both also made wise terrain choices and actually made use of the terrain helped too.

The Star Adders both encouraged sending the Wolf's Dragoons and actively studied every report. They were just about the only clan to bid like they had a clue and that cost them their invasion slot.

The Merry Marauder posted:Star Adder and the Falcons respectively, though I don't follow how the Star Adders are pragmatic, except perhaps politically. They don't really have a preference for any single branch of their forces, unlike most with battlemechs, Hell's Horses with mechanized, and Snow Ravens with aerospace. There's still the general battlemech bias that almost all forces in the universe have, but not to the extent that most Clans have. All three are generally integrated together into combined arms forces, and tanks aren't really looked down on. Hell, freeborns aren't particularly looked down on either. They also run one of their Galaxies as an OpFor force for training purposes, who are practicing Inner Sphere tactics by the time of the Great Refusal. In fact, their win was not exactly what you would consider Clanlike, as they baited a trap with a few points of armor and Elementals, then had them fall back in a feigned retreat before slamming into the pursuing forces from the side after they got somewhat strung out. Also, from the wiki and regarding Operation Revival: The Star Adders supported the Dragoon Compromise and studied their reports carefully. They spent less time politicking than other Crusaders and more time training for the return. When Operation Revival was being planned the Star Adders (uniquely among Crusaders) urged caution and bid in a manner that reflected their awareness of how difficult conquering the Inner Sphere would be. Their conservative bidding cost them their place in Operation Revival. And yeah, they tend to be rather politically savvy too. How they led Steel Viper blindly into its own Trial of Annihilation after letting them take the brunt of the wars that gave the Adders effective control of the homeworlds was rather amusing. Laager: Tactical Update 11 Arakiel didn’t hear the explosion. She didn’t even really feel it beyond the pressure that threatened to pop her eyeballs. The agonizing neural feedback as her Viking’s DI computer poo poo the proverbial brick drove spears of concentrated agony straight into her brain. A Neurohelmet did far more than simply read the workings of the inner ear. BattleMechs responded to thought and intent as much as any physical cockpit command. It wasn’t the severance of that neural link that was painful—it was the DI Computer’s confused attempts to re-establish that broken connection that hurt. A BattleMech ran more processes than Arakiel could name but nearly all of them relied on her brain. Stories had always persisted of pilots who’d burned out their brains using poorly-calibrated neurohelmets. Arakiel had never seen direct proof of that, but pilots died from falls and ammunition explosions all the time, often enough leaving perfectly healthy bodies. Just like the instant a JumpShip crossed into hyperspace an eternity passed in the blink of an eye. She wanted to vomit, to weep, and to pass out all at the same time. But she didn’t. Arakiel had a fight to win. She stared up at Abadan’s purplish sky through the Viking’s front canopy and started rocking her machine through the motions that would let her roll the basically limbless body back onto its feet. Blake willing she’d have time to rest after the fight was won. Or she’d died. The Legacy isn’t built for quick reloads, but the technicians may be able to supply it with one additional ton of gauss rifle ammo. If only one `Mech is in the Mechbay the technicians will also replace damaged armor plates, restoring the armor on all damaged sections up to the nearest multiple of 5. If a section is already at a multiple of five, its armor cannot be restored. Hidden Assets – The light autocannon turrets are currently in low-power standby mode. ComStar has always maintained up rumors that the power grid supporting them is incomplete or somehow insufficient to power them. They will not open fire until at least two players request their activation on the same turn. This deception may be detected by enemy units with a Beagle Active Probe. Orders Due: Midnight Saturday!
