I got convinced to do the following instead.

Movement:
Jump to 0910 facing 1010.

Shooting:

Firing Gauss rifle, Medium pulse laser then SRM at the pillager in that order in 1111.

You mean, Carlos fails the piloting check for said sweet slide, then fails a consciousness check, right?

Rise of the Phoenix: Tactical Update 10

A backhand blow from Caesar’s mace nearly split an enemy Marauder in half as it fell, showering the dusty badlands with shards of ceramic and steel. The machine twisted in midair, a strange pirouette that set it spinning on its back for a moment or two before it collapsed in a powerless heap. There weren’t many of them left now—but a sensible foe would have retreated long ago.

Acolyte Kreszentia coughed as more acrid smoke filled the Gallowglas’s cockpit. Something in her machine’s chest was burning. Probably one of the air filters. The blue Shadow Hawk she’d been targeting leapt away, practically mocking her machine’s mobility. If she’d still had her Lightray, she’d have taught these Capellans a thing or two about piloting. They were skilled, but they fought heartlessly. Like the stories she’d always heard of the Death Commandos or the Warrior Houses, completely heedless of their own losses in the single-minded pursuit of a goal. That the goal was Kreszentia’s destruction was little more than an irritation for her, at least at the moment. She’d grown close to Carlos’s men in the months they’d spent on the run, and still had at least one to help avenge.

e: based purely on the damage descriptions we need to push up and keep the remaining enemy mechs from touching Carlos too much. I'm worried about the remaining shadowhawk jumping in to get him in the back before we can extract him.

Now it's time to engage full :tinfoil: on the pillager not taking pilot hits!

So laughing at shot placement aside, you guys lucked the hell out because Carlos still has a leg! Yay!

Did the Green marauder and Pillager just not move this turn? they're still under ECM so they should be jammed, but if so, then great, Carlos can finally break LoS, while the King Cobra moves in to smash a third Marauder to bits.

It's a sorta major miracle that the Guillotine is still standing, too, because holy poo poo. (And to think we were hyping up it's Thunderbolt buddy as a real zombie mech before it got headcapped turn 2!)

Wait -- I haven't even voted in this game yet!

Incidentally, I don't think there's anyone actually piloting those enemy 'Mechs. At least, not piloting from the cockpits. Despite multiple headshots, not one of them has taken a "Pilot hit" result over the entire course of the mission. You can actually see that in four separate places just this turn, enemy 'Mechs have taken damage to the Head and not suffered any Pilot Hit, while the player 'Mech who took some Head location armor damage got a Pilot Hit. I'm not familiar enough with the setting or rules to speculate what enables that, though.

aNYWAY,
tHAT'S REALLY ALL THERE IS,
tO REPORT ON THE SUBJECT,
oF ME GETTING HURT,

Luckier that two of the three eligible enemy mechs didn't attack Carlos this turn, that was probably their last serious chance to clobber him and instead they've fatally split their fire. It should be much more feasible to get Carlos out of harm's way and completely surround and curb-stomp the remaining enemy mechs, unless by some complete random chance the blue Shadowhawk survives then goes all-in on a DFA. Hell as a nice bonus there's a chance the Guillotine and Gallowglas will make it out of this one and I was sure they were done-for.

I wonder, do the Capellans even know Carlos is here? They knew he jacked the Grand Titan from before and his Gallowglas is on the field, although since they didn't expect the Corsairs to show up they might've gone into this fight expecting they'd have time to clear the field properly rather than having to bum-rush the leader. I guess this could've been like the first Crusaders mission where if the players had done something to give away that the Grand Titan was important they'd have figured it out but the players managed not to tip their hand? Regardless, the players owe a lot to the fact that they haven't played this like an assassination.

Oh, and as for pilot hits, the Shadowhawks definitely had human pilots back when they made their first appearance (did any of them take pilot hits back then?). Although, the weirdness with their mood/status from before also suggests something's up.

Carlos is one good hit from a mission kill in two locations. He has more than enough allies remaining to win the fight without his help, so the first priority is probably making sure nobody gets shots at him from the right.

Orders for the Timber Wolf:
Thanks again for letting me run this mech for a couple of turns - it's a beast.

Timber Wolf H Movement Phase
No movement orders for this turn.

Timber Wolf H Firing Phase
Fire both LRM 20's, a single heavy larger laser and the ER small laser at the Pillager, currently in 1111

Contingency! If I cannot target the pillager I will fire the same weapons (both LRM 20's, a single heavy large laser and the ER small laser) at the green marauder in 1314.

Baudin
Dec 31, 2009
I'm playing a bad game (MWO and apparently Dota - my bad taste in gaming knows no bounds) right now so I might as well explain why I'm doing these orders for the two mechs.

My primary concern isn't what these mechs can do this turn as far as shooting is concerned, because they're going to be able to make those shots regardless of what I do. With that in mind I need to stop them from being able to attack Carlos next turn. The green marauder will be body blocked and prevented from hitting Carlos by either the Battlemaster or the Guillotine this round assuming he doesn't die. That leaves the Pillager and the Blue Shadowhawk as potential threats. Remember that any hit to Carlos at this point has a chance of mission killing his mech, which would be pretty terrible. The Pillager is likely going to either jump in closer to Carlos and try to kill him, or will attempt to attack any other mech in range.

The Timber Wolf is both not mission critical and has a good chance of taking out the Pillager with his firepower, however if I close in to 1412 to keep Carlos close the Pillager could conceivably jump behind me to unleash his weapons from a relatively safe location - I'm staying back to deny that opportunity, and give myself a better to hit chance while also making myself an attractive target. I realize this could kill the Khan but that's an acceptable loss.

That leaves the Blue Shadowhawk, Qing Long, which Kell's Archer and the partially intact Gallowglas can hopefully deal with this turn. This does place the Archer in a poor location next turn assuming Carlos does break through and the Shadowhawk survives - however the Archer can turn around and run to 1219 which would place him back in the thick of the fight next turn. There is also a chance I can either cripple Qing Long with a leg kick or do enough damage to incapacitate him through sheer damage. Kell's Archer is relatively unscathed and I'd rather have the Shadowhawk attack Kell rather than finish off the Gallowglas - having the Acolyte survive would be a good bonus to this mission.

My expectation is the pillager won't survive this round - the other players should focus on killing him as best they can, and Caeser will likely be getting in close and personal with the Green Marauder, and the Guillotine blocking the green marauder from advancing on Carlos if possible.

PTN:
I hope you don't mind me sending in orders so quickly - I likely wouldn't be able to look at the map until late Tuesday without doing them tonight and the excitement of a fresh turn means I probably spend more time than I should looking at options.

There are certain pilot skills / implants that let a pilot ignore pilot hits. Given that we're dealing with The Society I'm guessing it's the latter.

Current turn thoughts: I'd really like to move down to 1413 and crunch the last Marauder, but that depends on what Soup Inspector's plans are. I could also go for the Pillager and hope my SRMs play havoc on his open torsos.

Yeah, I noticed that as well.Guess there really isn't anyone in the cockpits controlling the enemy experimentals or they're protected from taking pilot hits in some way, though I think the former is out because I remember a fluff bit about Jeana Clay in the BattleMaster seeing an enemy pilot in one of the Warhammers struggling with their downed mech earlier in the mission.

At least taking out the head and therefore the cockpit still eliminates the mech, like what happened with the White Tiger. Nice shot on Bai Hu by the BattleMaster there.

Anyway, really damaging turn for both sides. Caesar gets mace kill number 2, making sure Zhang Fei stays down after blowing off a leg with the Gauss Rifle first. Will he get number 3 next turn by taking down another sworn brother of the Peach Garden Oath in Guan Yu? That Assault Mace hungers for more hydraulic fluid from the remaining Marauder, and you should oblige it.

Too bad the Wolverine pilot couldn't get corrected orders in on time, some more damage could've been piled on the last sworn brother. Liu Bei did get hit pretty badly this turn though, and another turn or two of concentrated fire on the Pillager should be enough to put it down for good, what with all those holes in the armor opened up right now.

If he goes down, looks like the Azure Dragon is the only one you have left to worry about, and he's a jumpy little fucker. Too bad the Gallowglas couldn't end him this turn or at least blow off his weak leg, preventing him from doing much more to threaten Carlos in the position he was in, but they got some good shots in and opened even more holes int he armor, so it should be easier to deal with him in the next couple of turns when the two remaining brothers of the Peach Garden Oath harassing Carlos and his Grand Titan up north right now have been dealt with.

Speaking of which, are those two still under the ECM jamming, preventing them form taking advantage of the C3 network to become Aces? They haven't moved yet, so that might not be the case, just something to keep in mind.

Some unlucky hits taken by Carlos, the BattleMaster, and the Archer this turn. Good thing Carlos is still up though as none of the shots hit his Grand Titan's opened up leg. Unlucky a shot hit his Right Torso though, that's almost gone, and the Engine hit might complicate some things...

The Red Corsair's BattleMaster also took an Engine hit and has open torsos now, and Morgan Kell has his Left Torso open, which might lead to some inopportune ammo explosions if Qing Long decides to target him this turn (I have no idea if the Archer stores its LRM ammo there, if that ammo has CASE so that getting hit won't be as bad, or if the only thing important stored there is engines and the LRM launcher).

I'm amazed that the Guillotine and Gallowglas are still alive, what with the fire they took this turn, but they;re still pretty banged up with engine hits. Well, any damage they can provide with their much reduced firepower will help Carlos get away, at least.

Looks like this'll be the turn that ends it if the two remaining brothers of the Peach Garden Oath are taken out, or if Carlos gets mobility killed. Really hoping for the former. You guys can do it, just bring it home now.

This is definitely a razor's edge here. Carlos is hanging on by thread.

Anyone else amazed that Caesar has just been walloping the poo poo out of everything and then on top of that DOESN'T HAVE A SCRATCH. That's outright intimidating. Khans were made into legends for less.

Would it be a good idea to knockdown/charge the green marauder? It's probably the biggest threat at this time to Carlos though I don't know enough about tt BT to say if it's a good idea at this point.

I could charge the Marauder, but I'd have to move to 1621 and use MASC to get a good run up due to downed mechs counting as rough terrain. Such a short charge probably wouldn't do a great deal of damage and also means I can't fire any weapons, so it's more advantageous for me to just run up to him and fire all my weapons / hit him with my mace like I've been doing. If a couple other players take some shots at it too I'm sure we can take it down this turn.

I am also really surprised I haven't taken any damage yet. I'm hoping for a FLAWLESS VICTORY, but so long as Carlos makes it out I'll be satisfied. Of course now I've said that we'll both be headcapped next turn.

I'd definitely just do that. If Green is still an Ace soup inspector can throw himself in front of it in Carlos's current spot to lock it in place (Unless it wants to jump in the water, in which case, uh, great, kick it's head off).

The Mace must claim more Marauder bones!!!!

I don't think the Marauder is an Ace - it's inside my ECM field along with the Pillager. But yes, the Assault Mace hungers for Marauders.

So,any tactical suggestions? Or can I only pray? If possible,I was thinking of trying to target the Pillager and CC its rear end. Or should I target the Blue Ranger?

Moving up to 1215 and unloading on the Pillager seems like a good move. Fire as many Pulse Lasers as you can and at least some are bound to hit those exposed sections, plus you'll be acting as a blockade for Carlos.

Sounds good. But should I use the Command Console on him ,make him an easier target for my teammates? Or should I just try to blast him to Kingdom gently caress? Either way, I'm itching for some payback. :black101:

I don't think the Pillager is an Ace, but you might as well use the Command Console just in case. One way or another I have a feeling things will be decided next turn. :black101:
