The Prime is "we're putting on one of every type of weapon on so you can practice" in BattleMech form. So if a Kirghiz at Altitude 5 is attacking directly it's 10 hexes away no matter where you (and it) are on the map. The Batus at Altitude 3 are only 6 hexes away from anything they strike or strafe, etc. PoptartsNinja fucked around with this message at 22:48 on Mar 9, 2016 |

It's a Kit Fox A, only shittier in every single aspect, along with weighing 5 tons more. Still Gauss Rifles on 35 ton frames(or 30 in the case of the Kit Fox) are nothing to sneeze at. As for dangerous, a Star of Kit Fox Ds could be entertaining if Zell happens to have been broken. Admittedly not as entertaining as bringing an entire Star of Fire Moth Ds to a battle with little terrain, but the Fire Moths also cost almost double the BV price.

Auxilia: Tactical Update 5 Alec turned his Dragoon II towards the huge enemy fighters he’d originally misidentified as drop shuttles. Their wedge-shaped bodies still sported the dark charring of atmospheric reentry, leaving the underside of what might have once been a serviceable white/gray cloud-colored camouflage dark and scorched. This group of fighters had come from space—and outside one of the usual windows—which meant the Clans were either risking the debris fields or were clearing them with remarkable efficiency. He probably shouldn’t have found either contingency surprising, but it alarmed him all the same. The Republic had few real warships, and as far as Alec knew none of them were supporting the Andurien operation. Bringing in one of the carriers, even with full destroyer escorts, would’ve been suicide with fifteen Clan WarShips lurking about. The Republic considered true warships a waste of resources—but that had left them ill-prepared for the battle in space. The last time a McKenna-class battleship had operated in the Inner Sphere was during the first Succession War. The debris field in orbit could do little damage to a ship so heavily armored, and rumor had it the Snow Ravens had brought something just as big. Something that wasn’t in any Republic or Star League database. Probably their only saving grace was the year they’d had to prepare. The onion-like layers of the orbital barrier fields all moved in different directions and at different speeds, making new windows difficult to open. Numerous self-contained ECM systems had been added to the mix, which would make the debris difficult to track and would, with luck, prevent the Clans from simply mapping the debris fields and learning about the windows the Republic hadn’t told them about. The invasion would be difficult enough to repel without the Clans dropping forces directly behind the Republic’s lines from orbit. Any attempts to do so would have to be made with sub-orbital flights that would leave the DropShips vulnerable to the Republic’s fighter squadrons. He sucked in a breath, and exhaled slowly before bringing his crosshairs to rest on the lead enemy fighter. The tweaks to the Dragoon II OmniMech’s Charlie configuration had moved some of the myomer bundles from the machine’s “armpits” over the top of the shoulders instead, giving the Type-C conversion far quicker reaction times against targets coming in from above. The changes slowed its reaction speeds against ground-level targets and the uneven pull seriously hindered Alec’s ability to aim down, but against a fast moving aerial target he could bring his weapons to bear far more quickly than most pilots would expect. One of the white arrowheads caught his movement and twisted in mid-air, bearing down at his machine directly. His parade blue-and-reds probably made him a tempting target for a Clanner looking to kill a Rim Worlder for the disturbing boasting rituals he’d been told they participated in after every fight. At least in that respect he was fortunate, his Dragoon didn’t stand out so much surrounded by the largely blue-and-gold Demon Hawks. His target’s shots passed his own in mid-air, the all-too-brief strobing of his pulse lasers lost against the flash of the fighter’s wing-mounted PPCs. He was lucky his autocannon shells split the gap between the clouds of enemy missiles, and the hammerblow of a direct PPC strike was soon drowned out by the dull roar of eighty LRMs exploding all around him. His canopy split, a shard of transplexiglass found a gap in his “Pilot Pal” light power armor, so sharp he didn’t even feel it until his suit sealed the breach with an antiseptic concoction most MechWarriors just called ‘goop,’ and locked the surrounding armor plates to keep the shard from tearing up his shoulder. Having an arm immobilized didn’t matter much. As long as Alec could move his hands and feet he could still fight. The painkillers would keep it from growing too uncomfortable. vorebane posted:And that was the Kirghiz not committing to their full alpha. That's because overheating in ASFs is very very very very very ultra super bad. One very possible consequence of overheat is random movement. Does 'random movement' sound like a good thing when you're trying not to fly your expensive 20 million C-Bill superplane into a tree? Probably not. The only time an ASF pilot's going to be doing an alpha is if the fight takes place in space with nothing to crash into, or if they think they're going to die in this exchange of fire and want to go out in a blaze of glory.
