For the Clans, it's a pretty long list, but the best-of-the-best are probably:

The Mad Dog, which excels at murdering anything lighter than it is (but will probably lose 1v1 against anything tougher than it is).

The small / pulse weapons variant of the Executioner (pretty sure it's the 'D' but I'm not in a position to check) was purpose-designed by the Ghost Bears to gently caress over the Ice Hellions, who favor light and fast `Mechs.

The Goshawk, Incubus, and Peregrine are all explicitly light `Mech killers.

The Rifleman IIC and Black Python both ruin everything's day.

All rely on pulse lasers to do the job.

The list is shorter and longer for the Inner Sphere depending on the nation and the era. Most Inner Sphere `Mechs don't specialize quite as heavily, though.

My money's on the Venom and the Wraith as ideal light `Mech hunters. The Spider has always been a "bug `Mech hunter (Locust, Wasp, and Stinger) and the Venom's its bigger, meaner brother. Both rely on pulse lasers.

The Grasshopper was explicitly designed to kill scout `Mechs, but it's reactionary and slow and has to rely on ambushes. Relies on lasers and PPCs.

IIRC the Snake and Wolf Trap were both designed as light `Mech hunters, but they're both pretty bad at it. Both utilize the power of the LB 10-X Autocannon (and the Snake throws in Streak SRM-2s for "added close-range punch.")

The Porcupine is an example of a Solaris style Mech gone mainstream for no good reason, but is a great example. And just straight fun without otherwise going full Solaris (or Pirate, as seen in the LP). Also for consideration is any Solaris build using Spikes. Light Shields (to help weather hits between charges), or combinations thereof with the spikes mounted on CT or opposite torso if using only one shield. Anything heavier than a Light Shield inflicts a -1 movement penalty, tho, which is a bit of a shame, as is the fact that there is no canonical Spiked Shield.

Copied from their FAQ, no Charger. :mediocre:

Q: Which ’Mechs will be in the game?
A: BATTLETECH is in pre-production, so many decisions, like the final 'Mech roster, are not yet determined. But here are the 'Mechs we're currently planning to include:

LIGHT: Locust, Commando, Spider, Firestarter, Jenner, Panther, Raven, Urbanmech

MEDIUM: Cicada, Blackjack, Vindicator, Centurion, Enforcer, Hunchback, Trebuchet, Griffin, Kintaro, Shadowhawk, Wolverine

HEAVY: Dragon, Quickdraw, Catapult, JagerMech, Thunderbolt, Cataphract, Grasshopper, Orion, Marauder, Warhammer

ASSAULT: Awesome, Victor, Zeus, BattleMaster, Stalker, Highlander, Banshee, King Crab, Atlas

To be fair, they do state that this isn't a final roster.

Auxilia: Tactical Update 13

“No,” Alec’s voice was thin, broken by static. “Let them go.”

For a moment, Jason thought it was his imagination. A tiny, man-shaped form stood atop Alec’s downed Dragoon, one arm waving to catch Jason’s attention. He focused on it, saw Alec’s face through the bizarre armored flight suit the Republic’s `Mechwarriors seemed to favor in lieu of a standard cooling vest. Alec tapped the side of his helmet, and continued.

“Showing a little mercy never hurts. Maybe we’ll teach them something?” Alec sounded doubtful, but pressed on. “We can’t linger, they’ll be back soon and we need to collect our downed Mechwarriors, your captive, and that Clan `Mech you want to drag off the field.”

“What about the `Mechs that are down but recoverable, like the Awesome and Sunfire?” Jason asked. “Do we leave them?”

“For now,” Alec’s voice lacked any trace of regret. “They’re just machines—and you’re on a three year contract so we’ll have a chance to recover and fix as many of your original rides as possible after the battle’s over, but that’s a long, slow process. I hate to say it, but unless you’ve got a spare Awesome leg on your DropShip you should probably write off any `Mech that’s lost limbs, even if it can still walk, and request a replacement. The Republic will get your pilot something comparable to ride until we can fabricate replacement limbs.”

Alec paused, then added, “After the fighting’s done.”

After-Action Report:
This was a hard-fought battle, and I’m really impressed how well all the players did under difficult circumstances. It’s going to be hard to pick an MVP this time around, everyone did an outstanding job keeping me at bay and splitting my forces up while dealing with both enemy air support and surprise Elementals. We’ll be seeing some of the Clan survivors of this mission later (possibly as soon as next mission), so the more bloodthirsty viewers will have the opportunity to take vicarious revenge.

There are other consequences for not going full glory hog. For one, taking out ten Clan `Mechs and a fighter with a starting numerical disadvantage, not losing any pilots, and with the loss of only seven (technically 9, counting the Tempest which isn’t repairable in a reasonable time-frame and the Dragoon II) BattleMechs of their own has definitely impressed the RWA. Both Duncan and Jason can look forward to new rides next mission, although I’ll save the specifics for the vote post.

As a head’s-up, we’re getting so near the end of the pilot list that I’m considering bringing in 1-2 “old timers” in future missions. If anyone hates that idea be sure to let me know or blow up my inbox.

No matter what, I need the usual: MVPs from both sides. Everyone did so well, for once I have no idea who I’d pick!

Eh, I wouldn't really quantify the Grasshopper as a Light 'Mech Killer, though it can certainly do that from ambush position. Where the Grasshopper really shines though is in hunting Mediums, since the mobility and maximized armor allow it to absorb whatever a Medium can throw at it while manuevering to an advantagous position, and he has good enough firepower to wreck your average Medium 'Mech's day.

GoonMerc MVP: Jason Youngblood and his Phoenix Hawk, for his absolute beauty of a headshot that netted the GoonMercs a pristine Mad Dog
