Granted water can only shield against ballistics up to a point but its viscous enough that those movie scenes of people escaping gunfire by swimming deeper are more plausible than people realize.

Saw that one recently - the faster your projectile the worse it is. Everything larger than a pistol shot disintegrates and barely carries the fragments a meter into the water (though this eventually seems to stop being true, large scale artillery having been used to destroy underwater bunkers in WW2 supposedly). Battletech water protection is very realistic.

Edit: Water is an incredibly good shield unless you use flechettes or something similar like missiles or torpedoes, but since height 1 water only semi-submerges a mech (meaning a lot of the legs are within a few meters of the surface and vulnerable to explosions) I think there should definitely be a 1/4th fraction of the damage from ballistic weapons.

Lost the Mountain Lion and the Copperhead, and in return we downed Thunderchild Razormaw and Shadowcat Eta, had the Swordbreaker surrender, Noretti spent 40 SP passed a dice roll to skyrocket her morale, and the Nergal kicked the Nidhogg's leg from under it. Seems a leg isn't a mission kill here, but now that the Nidhogg can't really move it's an easy mark.

The Varangian has been opened up enough that some good firepower will probably finish it off.

Personal augmented pilot suits are a thing in the RWR. Possible they have cybernetics capable of repairing or replacing spinal damage.

Because of Cull the Weak, the Nidhogg couldn't surrender despite getting legged. Otherwise it would have. Sucks but it happened.
