Rabbit Warren Update 9

“That’s coming out of your salary, Angel-4.”

“No it isn’t,” Elias Combs replied vocally. He hated speaking out loud, but there was no help for that. The compact UI of the Sin BattleArmor lacked the space for a chat readout. His combat computer beeped, plotting escape paths and marking possible hiding spaces—final suggestions garnered from the dying Legion BattleMech beneath him.

The enemy’s lasers had sliced into the cockpit dome, damaging sensors and nearly severing Elias’s interface. The safeties built into the design had kicked in, shunting his consciousness into the Sin’s less powerful computer systems to avoid dump shock—that is, the neurological stress from having one’s access to the powerful DI computer severed abruptly. Even Mechwarriors with standard neurohelmets were prone to headaches after abrupt shutdowns, but the direct wired connection the Legion used was even harder, physiologically. The decades of experiments that had created the modern buffers and signal shunts worked wonders, but Elias still felt a sense of loss. He’d been a ten meter tall metal god only moments before, and now?

The Sin’s right-arm vibroclaw hummed to life as Elias tore his way out of the Legion. His ‘Mech was still repairable, and it would take a dozen battles before they’d be forced to search for a local source for parts. The Society’s pilots had already turned away. A headshot was a kill, after all, so he could hardly blame them—but if they’d been a little less confident they might have caught him emerging and then it would’ve been all over.

PTN I think the math works out regardless, but: my shot should be -4 stationary target, +4 called shot, +2 fired TSEMP last turn. Would still hit and kill, though. Or, are we not using the +2 penalty to hit on the turn after you fire a TSEMP?

Also, my status shows TSEMP not charged, but I didn't fire it this turn so I think it'll be charged for next turn, right?

Farseli posted:

We kicked the armor off of both legs 2 turns ago, so it's kind of hilarious to see it go out that way. Four kicks total to obliterate both legs, both time from different mechs flanking it.

Targeted headshots are different than normal aimed shots, they're at a +3 penalty period (replacing the immobile target modifier and any targeting computer modifiers), and I forgot about the TSEMP so I guess that stands.

Alright, well fair enough. And, given that it stands and the objective is complete... was that the only way to get the objective, or could I have just shot the mech, or some technicians or equipment or something? I'm just curious.

I kept thinking that the Osteon Prime that got away at the end of the last mission was the one that was being repaired here and not the Turkina that DI pushed off of the map, even though I could read the mission objectives as clearly as everyone else, guess my eyes just glossed over the name and image of the mech, even if I could remember the pilots being different. I think you got the same pilots as messed up as I did. But you ended them in as quickly a way as possible, what a show! :smugissar:

Still, this was a turn to remember. So many headshots, plus you guys taking one in return. Society Mechwarrior Brock Lesnar bites it early from one of those lucky headshots, too bad so sad. Kicked both of the legs off of the Osteon Prime too, that was cool to see. Now we'll get to see what one of these Sin battlearmors can do.

Farseli posted:

I think some of the penalties Osteon Prime inflicted on you with those IMP ATMs before you took out its legs were rolled into the Overheat penalty box. Not sure where else they would go.
