I wonder if there are rules for ammo after it has been dumped. You'd think 2000 lbs of .50 cal that has more potential energy than C4 doesn't magically go inert after it touches soil. Maybe they could dump ammo, then shoot/stomp it? I wouldn't trust the built in auto destruct controls now that the players' orders have turned out to be suspect.

Not official rules, no. I have house rules for it, though.

If you take a shot to the rear while you're dumping ammo, it goes kaboom just like normal, only it has to go through your rear armor before reaching internals, instead of ignoring the armor on the location it's dumping from.

PTN: Can the players self-destruct their 'mechs intentionally? I imagine that the ejector seat is probably wired to the bombs, rather than the ejection system.

Possibly, but I'll only allow it if they've taken internal structure damage from an enemy unit that turn since it'd look awfully suspicious otherwise.

I'll ask again, though: can a mech pick up a train car?

I answered this in general terms; so I'll answer again more specifically: emphatically no. A train car capable of carrying a battlemech cannot in turn be picked up by a battlemech small enough to do so. Our giant robots are only ten meters tall (give or take a few, the Locust is right around 7-8 meters; while the Atlas is over 15 and most others are somewhere vaguely in-between).

Keep on GOP rolling rolling rolling rolling.

a 'mech can pick up between 10-20% of its weight on average, atlas's known to be on the high end of that scale, if it had say... TSM on you could double that. Also PTN I would disagree on a mech can't pick up a train car capable of transporting it. all the car has to do is be able to support 100 tons of weight and nothing more without breaking, it doesn't need to weigh all that much, a 10 ton truck can pull 50 tons or more in our times, so I don't think its impossible, a light mech though? no way in hell.

I gave the tonnage of the train car at 30 tons earlier (which isn't unusual). The average weight of our battlemechs is approximately the same. The implication was that none of our 'Mechs could lift their own weight (if they could, they'd be 60 tonners).

Fake Edit: Also, ouch. This turn is really going to hurt.

A +3, if that penalty did stack, would mean ~60 damage. I don't think a light mech even has that many armor points, perhaps not even armor + internal structure points.

v v v Ah, that is something I hadn't thought of. Hopefully the Home Guard units don't get damaged too badly.

I can't believe I missed my piloting check (or checks, not sure if I required one for rotating in the fog--figured I didn't, but at this point I was willing to risk it for the sake of brevity). Hey, if my SRM ammo goes up, does that cause damage to structures that I may be next to or, perchance, inside of?

Hypothesis 1: The mech just got gangbanged by multiple Home Guard and/or Loki units ( a lot of them).
Hypothesis 2: One of the criticals rolled resulted in a LRM/SRM ammo explosion.

End Phase:

The Grasshopper’s sudden touchdown was unexpected. Snow blinked, staring at his radar in surprise—there’d been no sign of it until it’d come out virtually on top of his position and caught his Assassin in its spotlight! Turning, he triggered his jets—he couldn’t get clear of it, not quickly enough, but if he came down on the train…

His ‘Mech shook like a ragdoll as the Grasshopper’s lasers converged with eerie accuracy. His damage diagnostic painted a grim picture as the enemy heavy stripped nearly every ton of armor from his forty-ton Assassin. Still, it wouldn’t be enough to—

Snow’s helmet smashed into his tiny cockpit’s canopy as a PPC caught his ‘Mech square in the back. It was an attack he hadn’t been expecting, and for a moment his Assassin nearly tipped off its thrust column. He recovered, but the maneuver cost him precious time.

His computer screamed a last-minute warning—another unexpected enemy had locked on. The Von Luckner, so distant that he’d simply discounted it as a threat, had anticipated his flight. It’s turret was already in position, and he’d just crossed in front of its guns.

With a single burst, the Von Luckner’s heavy autocannon tore his ‘Mech apart. His right arm, largely undamaged, spiraled off into the darkness. Snow struggled to keep control as the slower-moving SRMs struck a moment later. So focused was he on his task, he didn’t anticipate the instant his ‘Mech exploded. As deaths went his, at least, was swift and unexpected.

The Assassin took 79 damage (and 12 critical chances) unless I miscounted. 99 if you count the "20" damage from the self-explosion.

More bullets!
The only things that really piss me off is that I didn't even get a chance to resolve the DFA, and I couldn't finish off the train. Oh well, so much for my run at this... :sigh:

H3 Assassin explodes!

And so there was one...We're going to have a really hard time fulfilling the property destruction objective (if it can even still be done...) with only a heavily damaged Javelin against a map swarming with hostiles.

By the way, my nomination for enemy MVP is the Home Guard Von Luckner. The way it simply tore apart our Assassin was glorious.
