Kicking her `Mech into reverse for fear that a point-blank shot would fuse her PPCs solid, her targeting system continued to lock on to dead space, and even tagged a cops of trees as the enemy Raven. With a growl of irritation, she switched over to manual targeting. The rest of the lance would wait on her, as the heaviest hitter, to open holes… but judging by the Ostsol’s uncertain movements, the Raven was clearly affecting its targeting as well. She toggled over to her primary interlock circuit, bringing all three PPCs online. Under manual control, the crosshairs would give her a rough idea where she was firing, but no real accurate tracking and the tiny Raven was already a difficult target. She’d taken worse shots. Rebecca took a breath, let her thumb depress the firing stud on her right joystick. A wave of heat spiked through her cockpit, and one of the PPCs missed narrowly, the charged particles passing harmlessly between the Raven’s spindly legs. She was gratified as her other shots hit, staggering the little scout ‘Mech even as it opened fire on Paul’s Orion. Under normal circumstances, Rebecca would’ve chalked up the Raven’s charge as attempted suicide, but the House Lu Sann pilot weathered the Rolling Thunder’s murderous barrage with surprising fortitude. It shook, but simply refused to fall even as the much heavier Orion overbalanced in the heavy winds. That irritating static cleared up in an instant as Paul’s return-fire obliterated the Raven’s left torso. “—n’t believe it!” Corporal Valens yelled incredulously, “that lucky little Capellan bastard lived!” Mission Objectives Destroy All Enemy Forces (0/8) OR Destroy the Janos Marik (0/1) Secondary Objective Don’t Destroy the Janos Marik (1/1) Enemy Movement Modifiers: 1) BMB-10D Bombardier Walked (+0) 2) RVN-1X Raven Ran (+2) 3) UM-R60G Urbanmech Jumped (+1) 4) UM-R60G Urbanmech Walked (+0) 5) WTH-1 Whitworth Walked (+1) 6) MON-67 Mongoose Ran (+4) 7) HER-1A Hermes Ran (+4) 8) UM-R60 Urbanmech Stationary (+0) AWS-8Q Awesome Weight: 80 tons (Assault) HD A(S): 9/9 (3/3) LT A(S): 24/24 (17/17) LT R A(S): 10/10 CT A(S): 30/30 (25/25) CT R A(S): 19/19 RT A(S): 24/24 (17/17) RT R A(S): 10/10 LA A(S): 24/24 (13/13) RA A(S): 24/24 (13/13) LL A(S): 33/33 (17/17) RL A(S): 33/33 (17/17) Heat: 3/30 Overheat Penalty: None Heat Sinks: 28 Movement: 3/5/0 Mechwarrior: Pilot 3, Gunnery 2 Mechwarrior Name: Sergeant Major Rebecca Cage Mechwarrior Player: Canopus250 Mechwarrior Status: OK! Having no arms and no LT means that for all intents and purpose that Raven is dead. The SRM is in the RT, but all the ammo is in the LT, along with the EWar. The lasers are in the arm. Focus on the fast lights.

About the only thing that Raven can do anymore is attempt charging. Like Knox said, the MLs are gone and the ammo bin for its SRM-6 was destroyed, maybe just 1 shot left in the rack itself.

It is unfortunate that the Raven survived, but with the Mongoose and the Hermes closing in, I don't think that you can afford to chase it down for a revenge beating. 5 medium lasers are 5 medium lasers.

Even though it survived, good god that Raven got beat down. PTN, I'm curious. What do you think of the optional massive-damage piloting check where rather than +1 period for 20+ damage in a turn, it's +1 for *every* 20 damage taken in a turn (so 40 is +2 to check, 60 is +3, etc)?

There are four possible targets this turn. The Urbanmech, the Hermes, the Mongoose, and the Raven. Of the four, I would say either the Urbanmech or the Mongoose should be the priority. You can divide your fire, as both lights will fold quickly if hit, but that also creates the risk of killing neither mech. e: The Raven can still spot, but it is still probably a less dangerous target. I'm not a fan. Light 'Mechs already have enough problems staying upright. VVV That is true, but some light 'Mechs are surprisingly durable. By all rights, that Raven should've been killed this turn. I should think a light taking 40 or more damage will have a more pressing problem stayin in one piece, so I can't imagine it'd come up very often. Might be useful for making heavier mechs more likely to topple, I guess. So I guess with the Raven's eWar and weapons neutered, there's no reason to attack it any more. It gets a pass, luckiest of lucky bastards.

On the other hand, I imagine the conversation on the other team's party line is something along the lines of "I'm alive? I'm alive?!..." *checks read-outs indicating 'mech has been castrated.* "I'm out of here!" I wonder if there's any way to tap into the enemy comms this mission? Probably not, since Capellans are the leading pioneers of information technology in the Inner Sphere who aren't ComStar. They probably have passwords that must be at least 13 characters long and get changed once monthly.

The Mongoose and Hermes both just ran really far on wet pavement, I assume this makes them hard to hit with weapons but does that make it easier to knock them on their rear end with a kick or a shove? If the Raven is no longer able to let the enemy ignore trees, 0303 (to the left) might be a good place for the Awesome to unload on the Hermes[7] without the Mongoose[8] hitting as easily. Gladiator could go south a bit to 1007 to finish the Raven for fun and begin to flank the enemy, who will realistically need to move closer to the rest of the group next turn to land solid hits. Not sure how he'd get useful hits in otherwise. Ostroc might want to move down or back so the raven can't ram it into the water. They'll probably focus on the Orion anyhow since it's down. If he gets back up immediately now, does he still have a stationary target bonus on him?

I'm going to go after the Raven and finish it off, given that the mission objective is to destroy all enemy mechs though, and if it withdraws we could be having to hunt it all over the map. It probably means that the Urbanmech is going to take some potshots at me with the Gauss rifle though. I'm thinking moving to 1007 and giving it the lasers and SRM again. Thoughts? edit: the rest of the lance should totally go after the Hermes and Mongoose but if the Ostroc moves southwest a few steps to 0806 before firing we can have a pretty decent firing line without any of us getting too strung out. generally I prefer fucked around with this message at 03:59 on Nov 13, 2011 |

I would probably ignore the Raven for now. The threat it presents is far less than the threat of the other mechs on the field. If you do want to kill the Raven, you can always run next to it and kick it, while shooting something else. You could get a medium range shot on the Urbie with your PPC if you did so.
