Following the ilKhan’s orders with a precision that spoke more of his obsessive attention to detail than any true personal loyalty, Star Captain Nasrullah powered his ninety-ton Kingfisher around a corner and straight towards the last known position of the Kurita house forces. His expression vaguely resembled a smile, though any onlookers would undoubtedly see only a determined grimace. If he understood the ilKhan’s plan properly, he was to be the key unit, the linchpin. Or, perhaps more accurately, the anvil upon which the volunteer Star’s faster elements would hammer the Kuritan `Mechwarriors to dust.

An enemy Thug rounded the corner to meet him, closing to a range that Nasrullah would’ve considered nigh-suicidal for a `Mech with old-fashioned PPCs. He swung his weapons in line even as the enemy Phoenix Hawk sailed over his head, the forty-five ton `Mech dropping square into his rear arc—where it was joined by a blood-red Spider and, moments later, another damnable Panther.

“All goes as you expected, ilKhan,” Nasrullah grumbled into the comms.

His announcement was met with momentary silence, then a roar that was equal parts rage and frustration split the airwaves. The ilKhan, his voice boiling over with rage shouted loudly enough that the comms distorted his voice to save the hearing of his Star. “There’s a stravag Jenner in the building! It’s blocking my assault path!

So... Goonstar just explicitly abandoned their heaviest mech to get torn apart by a mob, it seems like. So that is funny too.

e: If Keru just plows forward into that medium, on the one hand he will have cover from 3 out of 5 of the mechs swarming him. On the other, they will probably blow the building down around him.

Now, see now this is what you get when you have a mastermind defensive coordinator calling the plays. What they've done here is a sort of hybrid zone coverage and it's worked absolutely perfectly, Al. The first thing I want to point out here is the blocking by the offensive line.

Where is the support for P5? I mean, they're all here, here, and here. They should be up near this line here at least, there's no support for P5 at all. They've got to converge up there if they want to have a chance of forcing any sort of breakthrough. This is just poor execution and poor coordination by the entire line, and and and you can't afford that in this big of a game at all. Someone is going to have to sit this unit down at halftime and go, look, you're killing the team right now. I know some of them are playing hurt, P3 especially, but this is just not acceptable.

But let's talk about the defense here Al, and I have to say, uh, that I am just, I'm really impressed. They faked that they were leaving some space up the middle, and as soon as there was a commitment from P5 there, BOOM! Five guys all there right away. I'll tell you what Al, they're uh, they're really pursuing to the point of attack well right now, putting in that extra effort to make plays, and when you can do that you can win football games. Look at all that punch there! The only things P5 can do are to take it, or go into a building, but if he does that they'll probably just BOOM! and drop it on him!

I think the best play though is right here though, this is what I'm really impressed by.

Look, uh, just uh look at this here! It's a little Jenner, running a little pick play on P1! That's the kind of thing you get when everyone is totally committed to winning. He's not worried about getting hurt, he's not worried about what P1 wants to do at all, he's just doing the little things, making good decisions, executing and making the plays his team needs him to. That prevents the breakthrough on the left side and really slows down the Hell's Horses offense. That's football, ladies and gentlemen, that's what you have to do. If the defense keeps playing like this it's going to be a hard sell for the offense to get back into this game.

Turns actually exist in a limbo state half-way between turns. Only the players movements happened on turn 8, and nobody had line of sight to anything on turn 8 (so no shooting happened). Then, we hit Turn 9 and all my guys moved. Now, the players get to move.

P5 moved apparently to be the bait in the trap, and then the Kuritans took the bait.

Only a Jenner decided to go ahead and stop the jaws of the trap from closing by physically blocking off the ilKhan, and now P5 is going to get nomnomnom-ed.

Would it be possible to colour dead mechs a different colour from the live ones? I can't tell the difference and it makes the maps quite confusing, having to count off from the roster.

Wow. Goonstar is hosed. Y'all managed to make exactly the worst possible moves and mostly with the wrong mechs.

P5 - You're dead. Even if you survive this turn, the damage you're likely about to take is long-term fatal. Worse, since you're going to be falling over this turn and they'll beat the poo poo out of you next turn, too. Don't bother trying to get into one of those buildings now, the risk is too high. 20s to ultra mode, stay stationary, full alpha strike at Yorinaga. Go down like a man.

P4, P3 - Step into the street and fire everything you've got. Destroy S4 if at all possible. If P5 can only be kicked twice instead of three times, it drastically increases his survivability. Close as you will, kick S5 if you feel it's wise. But kill those god damned lights.

P2 - What are you doing? If you run you can just barely make it to 1118 and get behind S1. Do it, destroy it. Do it now.

P1 - CHARGE THE JENNER. Knock it right out of the drat building. It's a heavy building so most of your ERML fire would just be wasted anyhow.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you
my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal.

Dead mechs are gray, living player mechs are beige, and living enemy mechs are pink?

So yeah I'm going to fire at SOMETHING this turn. Question is, what? And how should I move? Do I just walk into the street and shoot some PPCs? Run up to 1518 and go for a PPC/Laser overheat combo? It would also set me up to move more effectively next turn. That'd also possibly make one of those big ugly guys fire at my face instead of the Kingfisher and take some heat off of him.

(Also I could technically use MASC again and run up to kick S5 I guess but that sounds like a bad idea for me)

E: I cannot stop laughing at that Jenner. I should be horrified but that's just amazing.

If I die before I Wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Gotta give credit where credit is due. I thought PTN was just gonna play super fluffy and let the players destroy the entrenched forces. You guys should still be able to do a ton of damage to the 2nd SoL, but any damage to that Kingfisher could prove dire. That is your heavy hitter.

kind of into it, really

Wow... All we need now is a big book of "Enemies Walking into obvious traps" to add this situation into.

P3 walk to 1518
P4 jump to 1618

You two need to murder poo poo now.

vvvv Yes, exactly that.

Err... you mean players walking into obvious traps? because this is what PTN wants kingfisher is going to EAT a lot of damage, ptn can absorb the losses of the light mechs and even yorinaga if he makes kills while doing so.

2nd Place.
1st Loser.
Depending on whom P3 is shooting this round, he might want to MASC up to the side street or stay at range (around 1719) because the Thug might decide to fire all of its SRMs at him instead of the Kingfisher, especially since one SRM to the head means instant death.

Hi, I'm Troy McClure! You might remember SD from such films as "Guys, I'm not sanguine about this Mech choice", "The Millstone of the Clans", and "Uppity Sperglord ilKhan"! Make sure to clear the date for his upcoming documentary, "How I ran a Star of Clan Mechs into the ground!"
I was not expecting that Jenner. To be perfectly frank, we were expecting the enemy to see P5 as an obvious trap and remain in formation, waiting for us to filter through, or else to all go for him. Instead they saw right through our game-plan which was for me and Serrill to plow through the building and hit them from behind.

Instead, they... Kind of completely shut us down in the most hilarious way possible. I'm starting to think that Poptarts Ninja is channeling the tactical spirit of Hanse Davion... Or perhaps that Hanse Davion is going to channel the tactical acumen of Poptarts Ninja.
