Didn't get PTNs first message because I forgot activating PMs. First turn is sent regardless. PS: I'll try to play at least somewhat fluffy. Now to watch you all try to figure out what that means.

Can somebody tell me what the logos on the map are? I mean I recognize the House Marik eagle and the Solaris VII emblem, but what are the other ones? They look kinda like terrible Armored Core mech logos or something. Kinda liking the snake one, though.

Corean [Enterprises] is also a FWL 'mech manufacturer. Cal-Boeing is a FedSuns aircraft manufacturer. The logo with an apple in it is, I think, Apple-Churchill, an electronics manufacturer that I think is Capellan (since all the Raven's gear is made by them) but they're not listed in Handbook: House Liao as such. Champions of the Factory: Level 2code:
This variant of the Thunderbolt would be considered a unique and exceptional mech in most cases, but if you compare it to the Guillotine, they are almost identical mechs. Still, there are a few differences that deserve to be discussed. Playing As: Take what I said about the Guillotine, but upgrade the ranged firepower a bit, remove one medium laser, and add a bit more armor. That is the 5SS in a nutshell. No jumpjets, but that probably won't be an issue in this map. Range brackets are a bit of an issue, as the PPC has the minimum range. On the other hand, anything inside range 3 allows you to use that Flamer effectively. Not a huge asset, but it is something, especially if you can do heat damage to a mech that is skirting +5 or +8. Playing Against: Again, heavily armored mech with a large amount of firepower at close range. Unlike the Guillotine, however, that PPC gives it a fairly formidable punch at range. Depending on the mech you are using, closing with the Thunderbolt might not be the worst idea. Even a +1 or +2 TH from being inside the PPC's minimum range could make a huge difference in this fight. Still, with simultaneous movement, it is a very tricky proposition. Guess wrong and you might end up fighting in the Thunderbolt's sweet spot where the superior durability will prove decisive. code:
Now the MAD-3D Marauder might be the most interesting mech on the field. While the other mechs can either fall under the category of 'brawler' or 'sniper', the Marauder is unique in that it can handle both areas well, although not as well as the specialists. This gives the Marauder a lot of tactical flexibility, which could prove decisive. Playing As: A lot of your plans should revolve around the situation around you and the foe you are currently fighting. Do you stick at range and fire devastating volleys with the dual PPCs (occasionally switching out one for the large laser when you start overheating)? Or do you close and bring your large laser and paired medium lasers to bear? Another advantage up close is that the Marauder is the heaviest mech on the field, which means those melee attacks will be especially devastating. Like most Marauders, armor protection is a bit thin in the sides, but the 3D has the advantage over the other Marauders of not being plagued by exploditis. Unlike the other mechs, you do not have to worry about an ammo crit causing your chances to go up in smoke. Playing Against: Don't let the Marauder control the engagement! Figure out a way to fight the Marauder on your terms and you will prevail. The close ranged mechs can easily overwhelm it up close, while the fire-support mechs can match it at longer ranges. Specialists fighting in their specialty will almost always beat generalists. The leg armor is very thin on this mech, so a few lucky shots or kicks could completely hobble this mech and ruin its chance at victory.

Profitable murder. He's also my favorite one to beat the whole thing. That, of course, means that people are more likely to gang up on him just because he is the champion prospect, but I feel tonight it doesn't matter. Best swords are tempered in the hottest fires. Well then I have a new personal favourite from duel fronts, one of wanting the mech itself to do as well as it did for me, and secondly from a story perspective of wanting the inner sphere to do the seemingly impossible task of splintering and maybe merging forming a completely new political battlefield than canon, but at the same time surviving the clan invasion, to an extent at least. Imagine if they'd come back to the Inner Sphere with rusted old SLDF 'mechs and the Sphere powers had spent the last few centuries modernizing and stockpiling? They'd be a joke periphery power with an overly-large population and a laughable culture. I think that's part of why in the setting, in the decades after the clan invasion as they started fragmenting, normalizing, and what-not, the clans went from an existential threat to the Inner Sphere to being just one part of the world. In that vein, the Jade Falcon's run as a mobile mongol horde sort of state in the Dark Ages makes sense as an attempt to adapt to the new power balance in the universe.

I must say I’m a bit surprised he’s the only one on an aggressive start. I’m wondering if Charles Boyington even got the starter signal. Is he asleep in his cockpit down there?” “It’s these first few minutes of a fight that really let you know who the pilots to watch in a match like this, Cal,” Duncan agreed. “I can’t blame the pilots for their caution, but caution only gets you so far. The Factory really lends itself to cat-and-mouse, and with a mouse like the Axman waiting in ambush, I don’t blame his closest opponents from keeping an eye out. In a match like this, that `Mech’s no hunter. In a one-on-one fight, I’d say Serge’s opponent would want to draw him into the open and pick him apart; but in a match like this holding tight is just waiting for a surprise visit from Binh and his Marauder, and believe me—that’s one surprise visit you don’t want to be on the receiving end of.” “Still,” Duncan continued unabated, “the only pilot on the field not fighting to keep a corporate sponsorship is Colonel Alvarez. You have to wonder how the sponsors will view a pilot who lingers in the back hoping to make a clean sweep.” “Speaking of sponsors,” Cal cut in with a hologenic grin, “Ammunition for this match was paid for by a generous donation by Defiance Industries: because if you weren’t willing to buy the best, you’d be buying from Quikscell.” Mission Objectives Be the Last Man Standing! {John Madden Mode:ON} Now, now in this sort of a match there's always going to be some set-up time, you know, just maneuvering and probing the other players' defenses, trying to figure out what scheme they're using and generally trying to get a feel for how the game is going to flow. You'll always see a lot of offenses use the first quarter to find the weak points in some of the opponents' defensive system and that's exactly what's happening here. You can definitely tell that Thunderbolt is just looking to be a little passive and let his arm make plays, though. The others look like they're trying to close the distance a bit, maybe find a location where they can surprise someone by changing levels. Boyington knows he's got time in the pocket though, there's on sense in trying to rush the play and making an early mistake. I'll tell you what, Al, it's, uh, well it's going to be interesting to see how things develop. {John Madden Mode: OFF}
