Yeah, though that's a terrible idea. Freelancing pays for poo poo, the point is to get some published material so you can move up. Writing terribly in it to boost your wordcount is short-sighted since it's getting a pittance more now but potentially harming your long-term chances.

Not to poo poo on you PTN, I'm happy you're getting published. Freelancing's a great way to get started, hell of a lot easier to publish when you've already been published a bit. Happy birthday, don't skip your daily quota. :whip:

“The remaining `MechWarriors are really gearing up to give us an excellent show,” Duncan Fischer exclaimed. “This is a hard business, but these men and women are consummate professionals. Sure, there may be some bad blood from time to time, but when tempers run hot I’ve always said the best place to settle it is in the arena; and this fight proves it.”

“Charles Boyington is delivering some punishing hits, but with his PPC gone he’s really at a disadvantage with both the Centurion and the Catapult working him over. Staying put was a wise move; and Ken Hachiman is going to have difficulty getting a clear shot if he gets too much closer. That Thunderbolt’s hurt, but it’s not out—if he gets in close, he could still win that matchup—but he’d have to put his back to Césaire to do it; and that’s not a gamble I’d personally take. And speaking of gambles, why risk QuikScell’s inferior shipping practices when Scarborough Manufacturers produces a wide range of multi-role hovertanks? Scarborough Manufacturers: We don’t build Vedettes.”

Ah shuck and heck and all that darn stuff, it looks like the scenario's going to finish before I do! Had to put the brakes on the contest entry sketches because of looming deadlines on paid work, among other things, but I'm done barring any last minute change requests. If you're wondering what was taking up a good portion of my free time, here's the painting I was working on.

Like Rolling Thunder it's still sloppy in a lot of places, thanks to me not knowing a whole lot about what I'm doing. It's not nearly as busy as the average piece of 'Mech art but apparently the client liked its sense of imminent and impending violence rather than violence in action, which I appreciated a lot. Also it really should not have taken nearly as long as it did to get done but, well, see previous comment.

As a note, the leftwise 'Mech, the Nimravus, is a Lynx derivative from the fanTRO. I took liberties with David White's design but not many. The big looming Assault 'Mech is one of the variants of the Durendal, itself essentially a Davion variant of the Banshee with some body work and extra big guns strapped on, designed by Eriance and slightly de-Mobile Suit-ed. The VTOL is me screwing up Stephen Huda's Harbinger design. The tank in the 2nd MAC colors is the Xuan Wu and it's a right tough cookie, but I wish the original designer didn't give its Gauss Rifles a vaguely railgunnish design since, well, gauss weapons are coilguns, not railguns. The 'Mechs belong to a mercenary unit in the employ of the soon-to-be-conquered/reclaimed St. Ives Compact with a good working relationship with the FedSuns, which explains why they would have something as fancy as the Durendal.

“You hear a lot of questions after a match like this; and a lot of times the biggest one is: ‘Duncan, is it fair for two pilots to work together to improve their odds?.’ To which I say: yes! It really shows the measure of a `Mechwarrior to face long odds; and it’s only natural to hold a grudge against someone keeping themselves fresh for the end-game. It’s rare to see a pilot give up a back-shot like that, but
I wouldn’t count Boyington out yet. His armor’s a memory; but some pilots fight best when the chips are down and the Thunderbolt’s one tough `Mech; and still has most of its armament intact. He may have lost his biggest gun, but he hasn’t lost his fighting spirit.”

“And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what the Solaris Games are all about! Celebrating Humanity’s will to fight on against impossible odds. They may not walk away from this arena as winners tonight; but Colonel Alvarez; Serge Axey; and the late Ngoc Binh are all winners in my book! And speaking of winners: Independence Weaponry: gently caress you TharHes, we make Atlases! Now under new management. Again.”

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you
my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal.

Torsos are overrated anyway.

"Hey, buddy. I've marked you as friendly on my IFF" is paying dividends. We've got a Thunderbolt and a Centurion who could well go down in a turn or two while the Catapult is looking solid in comparison, minus an arm. Of course, if it weren't for that backroom dealing, who knows if Césaire could've gotten this far on his own.

Gotta hand it to Felime for playing frightfully smart and playing up to that vaunted Liao sneakiness. It'd be best if Hachiman didn't go up against Capet, too, you know.

If I remember my record sheets right, that torso took some heat sinks with it. Combined with the engine hit, it could make for a red-hot endgame!

Yep. It only has 16 heatsinks and now generates 15 heat just by existing. He should be glad he no longer has the PPC to tempt him. Have fun riding the snake for the remainder of your short life.

If I die before I Wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Engine hit is only 5 heat, so the Thunderbolt is still perfectly fine. If he still had the PPC it would be an issue. Occasionally he will have to hold one laser back, but that isn't a big deal.

Centurion needs to backstab the Catapult this turn if it wants to have any shot at winning. Do the Capellan thing.

The Catapult is just a LL away from having a scout mech's loadout.

The Centurion knows this, the Cat knows this. This turn they... well, turn against each other.

And the T-bolt walks up and clocks the winner of that match up in the face, gleefully reminding his victim that melee attacks don't generate heat.
