yeah the 8S and its really dumb 4/6/4 and armed with a HGR with 2tons of ammo 2ML and 2LRM10s with 1 ton of ammo. Mounting a hgr on a crusader is dumb and not giving it enough ammo is criminal.

-8S. I am not totally sure what the design process was on that one. I guess because they already had a new Archer-S they didn't want to have another missile boat with a LFE?

The Cicada and Bobcats’ PPC fire crossed the space between them in an instant, arcs of electricity jumping from one to the other as the seconds-long particle streams tore air molecules apart before turning themselves with ravenous hunger on ceramet armor and skeleton beneath. Side by side, the differences between the two beams was obvious—the Cicada’s tightly-focused particle stream sliced through the Bobcat’s armor plating like a battleaxe, cleaving softened metal from abused structural supports. The Bobcat’s return fire was unfocused and dissipated rapidly, yet the hail of nearly-random particles chewed at the Cicada’s right leg like an army of rats worrying a dying horse. Armor exploded from the Cicada in puffs of molten gas as the next particle hit somewhere else rather than losing effectiveness by first having to chew through the expanding cloud of metal vapor.

A sickly black smoke rose from the Bobcat’s ruined torso as several jump jets cracked or exploded in the heat. From the Cicada, the sharp ‘twang’ of snapping myomer tore chunks of structural steel from the `Mech’s ferrotitanium bones. The Cicada sagged, then caught as the DI computer locked the leg’s joints as sensors in the hip burnt out as molten armor flooded through the actuator. The Cicada staggered and nearly fell as the DI computer struggled to compensate for the overstressed right leg.

The Bobcat’s great foot smashed into Lieutenant Chiatzi’s cockpit like a sledgehammer, tearing away the transplex. The impact threw him against his restraints with enough force to snap his right clavicle, and for a brief instant he blacked out from the pain.

I wouldn't say exactly that. The Bobcat is one SRM away from being mission killed (if it has an XL engine). Even if it only has a Light Fusion Engine, that still means 2 engine hits in addition to the loss of the Retractable Blade and an ERML (if the Snubbie is indeed on the left arm). Let's also not forget the fact it can only jump 3 hexes now. I will say though, that it certainly has done quite the amount of damage to goonlance.

Knocking out those jumpjets will almost certainly spell victory for the players. That mobility was all that was keeping the ace alive. A single SNPPC won't be nearly enough to deal with the forces arrayed against it.

Here we go again.
Yeah, we're bleeding bad, but so is he. We've got a good chance to get a hit on his right torso and his big hop-around mobility strategy just went away, so that'll only help us hit him.

That said, I really hope there's no more surprise twists because there's no way we'd survive anything else at all.

Speak for yourself. My one legged suicide Locust can take on anything! (Oh god, please let this be the end of it.)

Anyway, yeah unless we're extremely unlucky/stupid, always a possibility, we should have this done in a turn or two at most.

edit: I have to say I really liked this setup. I think the highly mobile forces made things much less static, going over the previous turns it has struck me that we've made a whole circut around the entire map. Defininetly a good scenario.

How much does losing 3 jump jets hurt? Is it worse in any way that the Bobcat lost them all on one "side", making the mech unbalanced? That right torso is also so vulnerable now, just one more lucky hit and hopefully it loses like half its weapons.

The Bobcat is now a 6/9/3(0), depending on if PTN uses Balanced Jump Jets rules.

I'm still trying to puzzle out the Bobcat.

We know it has somewhere between 22 and 24 heat capacity (It was OVERHEATING! at 25, but endured a 22 without problems), which could be either 11-12 DHS or 15-16 IHS. The armor we've seen would make sense for 8 tons of Ferro armor, but with 9 tons of standard armor there's 1 point unaccounted for somehow.

With a standard engine and 10 heat sinks (baseline) that leaves us with -3 tons. An XL engine would give us 4 tons to play with, but that would give either too many DHS or not enough IHS to get to that minimum 22 heat sink capacity.

Ferro + ES with nothing else puts us at 0 weight, so that would be 10 DHS, but that's not enough.

What I think we have here is Ferro, XL engine, and 15 IHS, which would put us at 0 extra weight and fit the heat profile needed. A light fusion engine gives us 1.5 free tons, which could do it with 11 DHS, but then we've got a half-ton just sitting around and doing nothing.

I don't care as long as there's a juicy XL engine sitting behind that right torso. Still an interesting thought, what would an inheritor of the Star League have available if it did not go through any sort of catastrophic infighting, but if it started with a resource deficit. I know we've had some discussions about who these attackers are before, but I'm still convinced it's the NRWR.

Taerkar

Yeah, it has to have at least a Light Fusion engine, if not an XL, unless PTN is pulling out stuff like small cockpits or the like.

My guess would be these guys don't have LFEs. XLs and DHS were standard for the Star League's tech and Snubbies were brand new. ER Lasers were also being worked on. But LFEs are an entirely new thing that wasn't a Star League engine project. Most likely it simply doesn't exist yet.

No, all of them had Smalls, because Manei Domini implants let you basically eliminate the penalties of small cockpits.

(And then, for experimental tech, you had Machina Domini systems, which let you make a mech with no gyro, with a pile of other benefits, which makes them ridiculously good).

Still predatory despite its injuries, the Bobcat half ran, half leapt down the slope of the Caldera’s crumbling soil, kicking up rocks and shredding lichen with each step of its retrograde legs. Unlike many `Mechs with bird-like legs, the Bobcat didn’t bob and bounce like a chicken when it ran—through some quirk of its design perhaps, or simply the skill of its pilot, the Bobcat’s torso remained remarkably stable firing platform even as the `Mech smashed through the thin hardscrabble trees that still tried to grow in the Caldera’s rocky, acidic soil. The Bobcat’s parting shots blistered the armor on Andreou’s Cicada, and sent a shower of half-molten armor plating tumbling in low arcs before it vanished into the trees, its position easier to trace by the cloud of smoke leaking from its battered chest than from the vague shape moving through the heaviest woods.

I'm actively working to limit the number of viable shots people have on the Bobcat at any one time :ssh:

M1 Shadow Hawk
- Torso Twists to threaten hex 1811!
- Fires Autocannon/5 at A5 Bobcat (4 base + 0 range + 3 movement + 1 enemy movement + 4 heavy woods = 12): rolled 8, miss!
- Fires LRM-5 at A5 Bobcat (4 4 base + 0 range + 3 movement + 1 enemy movement + 4 heavy woods + 2 minimum range = 14): automatic miss!
- Fires Medium Laser at A5 Bobcat (4 base + 2 range + 3 movement + 1 enemy movement + 4 heavy woods = 14): automatic miss!
- Fires SRM-2 at A5 Bobcat - Fires Medium Laser at A5 Bobcat (4 base + 2 range + 3 movement + 1 enemy movement + 4 heavy woods = 14): automatic miss!

Um, shouldn't the heavy woods hex only give +2 to hit, as two heavy woods would block LoS entirely, if there's more than one?

Not if the bobcat is in heavy woods, and has one heavy woods between them.

Ordinarily, yes.

However, standing IN a heavy woods hex still gets you the +2 bonus for that hex, but does not count as intervening terrain; so when line of sight is drawn through another hex of heavy woods the total to-hit penalty is +4

There is one between and the bobcat is in one, a unit inside a hex gets that modifier but unless underwater does not count that hex for if anyone else can see them.

Woops ptn is much faster than me.
