On the bright side, even without PTN's "the campaign will be winnable" being in effect, this is the kind of fight where taking heavy damage to get the job done isn't necessarily a bad thing. We're breaking their heaviest star and eliminating their commander. Anyone with half a clue knew this fight would be expensive, we just gotta make sure we come out on top. We are already dead, we're just looking for a proper junkyard for our machines.
