Jesus christ this thread got huge before I got here. As a megamek vet I would like to sign up to be a mechwarrior since given how many are ahead of me I figure there's a good bet we'll be megamekkin' by the time I get the nod.

With that many jumpjets and that little armor let's hope for mountains or at least thick forest. I love playing hit and run with lights and mediums.

A Dragon would hardly be insurmountable provided the terrain to gangbang it at close range. Or just shoot it with the Griffin, really. PPC's are the weapon of the gods.

But really, AC/5s and LRMs both have minimum ranges and the Medium Lasers that make up the bulk of the Lance's firepower don't, so walk right up in its face and it has all of two medium lasers, which it can't bring to bear on a single target because one is an rear end laser.

Bonus points if you do so from 1 height level up and kick its stupid head off

Infantry generally move 1, and have tiny, tiny ranges, but they can do some serious damage with ambushes in thick terrain like a city

A combined arms force of VTOLs, vehicles and infantry in an urban environment would be a really nasty opponent if the scenario uses secret placement and movement for them (either through megamek or on a tabletop via one player writing units and hexes on a piece of paper to provide a log and only placing them when they're visible/shoot)

They compare very well to US army formations actually, which only have anything that would qualify as a battletech heavy weapon at the platoon level. iirc a standard 42 man infantry platoon will have one weapons squad with 2 machineguns and 2 antitank weapons.

You can fit a lot more than 2 MGs and an SRM2 in that many battletech infantry

Actually, if you're facing the dark area of space heat loss by radiation can be really impressive. Go to the desert at night and line a hole with aluminum foil, and you can make waterbottles explode by radiating heat into a cold sky.

That relies on having air to carry the heat away (convection) not actually radiation of heat. In fact a water bottle is an absolutely terrible radiator.

Radiation is a pretty strict and easy to calculate value for any given amount of energy and given radiator so we should just assume that mech heatsinks, like mech armor, are made of mst3kium.
