Just a heads up for anyone with Black and Decker power tools. I found out that if one of the batteries on my 24v Firestorm B&D set goes bad and you try and charge it, it will kill the included charger. If you buy the same charger it will kill that one too. Make sure you buy a charger that has a bad battery detection. It's about $10 more but it will save you a lot of headache and frustration.

I meant to post this earlier. Lowes has the Porter Cable 3-Amp Oscillating Tool Kit for 1/2 off, only $49. It's a similar too to their $99 kit just with less added accessories. http://www.lowes.com/pd_591294-70-PCE606K_0__?productId=50158929&Ntt=ocsilating+tool&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNtt%3Docsilating%2Btool&facetInfo= There was a coupon for $10 also but it looks like it's not working anymore. Today is the last day of the sale. I used it this weekend to trim some baseboards and it worked wonderfully.

If you don't have anything at all I'd go ahead and get it, it looks like it's got a decent selection. Torx bits are a nice inclusion, that's one thing my set is missing that I wish it had. More drill bits is another, which this set seems to have covered also. Now that I think of it I have plenty of philips bits and need more drill bits and could use a couple spade bits. Maybe I'll grab that Craftsman set posted earlier.

It's time to look at upgrading my 12v Porter Cable drill/driver I bought about a decade ago and I'm looking at two kits from HD this Fathers Day. M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Compact Drill/Impact Combo Kit (2-Tool) W/ (2) 2.0Ah Batteries, Charger & Bag M12 FUEL 12-Volt Li-Ion Brushless Cordless Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit (2-Tool)w/ Free M12 3/8 in. Ratchet I like the size/weight of my current 12v set and have only run into a handful of situations where I had to pull out my corded drill. However, upgrading to the 18v sounds real tempting too. Anything else I should be looking at? I can probably go up to $300 if it's a good deal.

I have an Milwaukee M12 Fuel circular saw but I'd like to get a bigger saw for larger jobs. I have an old Skil saw I used this weekend but it's, old, way off alignment and at some point I severed the cord pretty bad. I'm all in on M12 so if I got 18/20v I would be buying new ecosystem. There's a good deal on a Craftsman 20v Brushless model at Lowe's that comes with a free battery/charger, or should I be looking at corded instead like a good quality DeWalt or Skillsaw? The only thing that would nudge me toward the Craftsman is that I might want to upgrade my outdoor tools some point in the future and the Craftsman has many of the tools I would want.

The price is right and the list of tools is huge. for common tools (drills, impact drivers) they also have low mid and high end tools for what fits your need. Other than that you're looking at DeWalt Makita and Milwaukee, what color looks better. Lowe’s hasn’t killed off Kobalt quite yet but it’s definitely been deprecated since their Craftsman acquisition. Ego is top tier but Ryobi's offerings are perfectly serviceable for the average homeowner. Kobalt makes decent mowers although no one really talks about their other yard tools. Really depends on how much yard you need to take care of. Milwaukee (no mower) and DeWalt also make decent yard equipment if you're already in or want to join that ecosystem. edit: As far as battery powered tillers is seems to only be Kobalt that makes anything worth while so that might limit your options.
