I remember there are some people in here with lots of experience with B&O stuff. I previously asked about and ended up getting some Beolab 8000s for a holiday home, they are really awesome and in general the setup is great with no loving around with amplifiers etc. What's the view on Beolab 20s? i can get a pair for £5k and the company will change the covers to a nice acoustic fabric which should look pretty great. I've wanted to upgrade the sound system in the living room for a while but neither I nor my GF really want the classic floor stander hi-fi speakers, and B&O really fit the bill. They're fixing what was originally a bandwidth issue, PS5s max out at 32GB/s and the Xboxes max out at 40GB/s so PS5s were fine. I'd imagine the new boxes go up to 48GB/s (HDMI 2.1 max bandwidth) but who knows.

Another post about my KEF Q Series inquiries. Pretty decided on the KEF Q750 towers. For bookshelves and center should I also get the Qs with the 6.5" driver? If they're just surround should I save the money and get the Q150s with the 5.25" instead? Same exact question for the center.

Yes, get he matching center with the 6.5” drivers if you can. Feel free to save money on the surrounds by going with the 5.25” ones. Would 6.5” surrounds technically be better? Sure, at a purely technical level. But not enough to care.

My TV stand is 23.5" and I plan to get a new center speaker that would need to be on top so the TV (LG 65" C7) would have to be mounted above that. The speaker is 8.3" tall, so the bottom of the TV would be at least 31.8" off the floor. The top of the TV would be at about 64" then. My eye level sitting up right in the main spot on the couch is roughly 37" off the floor. If I'm laying down then it's only about 27". I sit about 9.5 feet away. Is that TV mount going to be too high? How should I calculate all this? I'm wondering if I need a shorter TV stand. If I ever got a bigger TV I imagine it would be even more of an issue.

I snagged my Polk PSW505 for 150 on black friday years ago, and it's totally worth that. Seems like price has gone up though, if your patient you can probably catch it on sale though. Avoid the PSW10 Klipsch R12SW, and the BIC F12 are options in the sub 250 range.

I picked up some Monitor Audio Bronze 5 towers the other day for $200. I currently don't have have a sub and listening to these for a little, I really like them but I need a sub. Some one locally has an F12 for $100 so I figurer that's an easy trigger to pull. My next question is once I'm there and have a really unbalanced system, should I consider changing up my amplification set up from the old sony receiver I picked up years ago at a garage sale? I figure something like a Minidsp DDRC-24 and a 2 channel amp? Where I'm getting lost is figuring out how to rationalize all the inputs. I dont really want to spend boat loads of money on a budget set up, but DSPs sound like a really good way to fix hardware problems with software.  I'm not sure I'm clear on how I would be able to run all my inputs through the DSP and then out through an amplifier. If I went with an AVR I think it would clearly handle all the inputs, and let the TV control volume which would be nice, but Im not sure how to loop the miniDSP with that.

As far as the rest it's a bit of a juggling act between the features you want and how complicated you can tolerate everything being. Rolling the miniDSP in there is going to be a challenge. Nobody really makes preamps anymore and you're going to need volume control. There are some relatively affordable Marantz and Yamaha receivers that have L/R pre outs you might look into models a few years old. Also that old Sony receiver might be fine for the moment, I had to Goodwill a 2009-era ES because nobody wanted it.

Dumb question here: I recently upgraded from a soundbar to a Denon AVR-S750H with bookshelf speakers. With my old setup (console > TV > soundbar), when I turned on a game console, the soundbar and TV would turn on automatically. With the new setup (console > receiver > TV) if I turn a console on the TV turns on, but the receiver stays in standby/bypass, and the TV defaults back to it's built in speakers. Can I change it so the receiver switches on with the console, or do I have to connect the consoles directly to the TV and the TV to the receiver?

Anyone have a recommendation for a sub isolation pad? Monoprice has a massive number of good speaker stands. Pick something that looks stable and has a large top plate, then use some museum putty to glue your speakers into it. I guess that goes for speaker stands too! The ones I have now look to be these exact ones but from a different manufacturer I think: https://smile.amazon.com/ECHOGEAR-Bookshelf-Speaker-Stand-Pair/dp/B07T1DCVGZ/ They're 30" tall and the top plate is just 5"x5" but these new KEF Q150s are 7"x11". These are 6.5"x6.5" up top at least and almost 1/3rd the price of the Monoprice. I've been doing some cleaning out and stumbled across a bunch of my old dualdiscs that have dolby digital/high resolution 5.1 mixes of some of my favorite albums. I currently only have my Xbox One X and 360 hooked up to my surround sound setup. I tried putting one in my Xbox and play it is a DVD, but it didn't seem to work or play these 5.1 mixes. Anyone know if there is a way to get these working on my Xbox? Alternatively, what is the best/cheapest way to play one?

 I just upgraded from my old TV from 2012 to a new LG OLED. Before, I had an Onkyo AVR with all of my devices plugged in to that and then the AVR plugged in to the TV. Easy. Now that I have a fancier TV that supports stuff my AVR doesn't (4k, HDR, etc), I want to upgrade to a new one. Right now, I'm using a Thenaudio Sharc to tide me over (though I'm having issues with it, like everything getting downmixed to stereo, but that's another story). But I have a question about eARC in general. Can I mix and match where things are plugged in? In the diagram above, I laid out how I want to have everything arranged: PS5 + Xbox direct to the TV and all other devices going through some new AVR and then to the TV. Will this setup work like I expect? I know the HDMI 2.1 AVRs are pretty limited (Denon has that one with compatibility issues, but there may be others?), so I'd like this setup so I can get all the HDMI 2.1 features from the devices that need it and still route the sound out through the surround speakers. Is this how eARC is meant to be used? Most of the stuff I've read is about using it for built in TV apps and not other HDMI sources. I would have liked to do this setup with the Sharc, but according to them it won't work because it might create a CEC loop, so I want to make sure that's a Sharc thing and not an eARC thing in general.

personally, I don't have EARC stuff, just ARC, and in that case it's just the built in roku tv stuff using it (not hdmi in to tv). "on paper" I would think ARC/EARC would just work that whatever the current active input is from the TV would output audio to the AVR, if it wasn't designed to do that then it's really dumb. Curious what the answer is, and perhaps you'll be updating your AVR to support it all.. Also how long did you spend scouring websites to get both consoles that aren't in stock anywhere?

The true answer to every ARC/eARC question is "it depends on your specific combination of equipment," but you can theoretically mix and match, I have my PS4 and Tivo plugged into my TV and other stuff into my receiver and it works.

Does anyone have the JBL Bar 9.1 and keep the rears on 24/7 USB charging? Mine seem to go to sleep / not charge completely that way until I unplug and re-plug them, but I've got them on a 2A APC wall outlet surge protector + USB and a goddamn 10W iPad brick after I thought the APC unit was somehow unable to handle both. Surely it can't be the cables? I bought a pair of brand new 9'ers just for these speakers. I've e-mailed support but the Canadian outfit seems to contract out; if they're clueless I'll call the American line.
