I'm currently playing through Rainbox Six Vegas 2 for the first time and Mass Effect 2 (which is my first time playing it on the PC... already beat it on the 360) RSV2 is frustratingly difficult at times. Shame that the competitive multiplayer is practically dead aside from Terrorist hunt.

Found 210 Games with a value of $3070.91 USD When I get really bored, I'll add up the actual amount that I paid for all of that. I've actually have been playing through quite a bit and have slowed down my purchases (well, my current financial situation helps with that). I've been using backloggery.com to keep track of my backlog, and that motivates me pretty well. Edit: I added up my actual total that I paid, and it comes out to $1316.91. That price doesn't include all the steamworks games I purchased retail (although, I did add the price if I remembered it). It pains me to go through my purchased games list of games that I purchased at full price or preordered, and then it turns out I never liked the game enough to play them. Some examples: Source Multiplayer Pack $29.95 (Bought it because Garry's mod needed it. Never really cared much to play CS:S or DOD:S) Shattered Horizon (preorder) $17.99 (Loved the concept, turned out that it played like poo poo on my PC at the time. I can play it decently now, but MP is pretty dead. From the little I did play though, it wasn't that impressive) Company of Heroes Gold + Tales of Valor $29.98 (Great game from the little I've played with it. But I have such a short attention span with RTS games for some reason) Killing Floor $14.99 (One of my biggest disappointments. I was excited for it and preordered it. But, the game turned out to be a monotonous repetitive game that was simply not for me) Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West $13.49 (Another game I excitedly preordered. The launch of the game was abysmal with the lack of dedicated servers. Tried to really like this game, but it simply wasn't fun. It's really interesting to look through my steam purchase history. Makes me wonder what the hell I was thinking when I purchased some of those games. I'm an addict as well. fatpat268 fucked around with this message at 06:44 on Feb 6, 2011 |

Finally beat Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Fun game and all, but goddamn it's frustrating at times. I died so many times because I had an enemy spawn behind me as I was moving forward. I might do a little co-op next, but my primary focus will be on Mass Effect 2 and Oddworld Abes Exodus (which I pulled from the random number generator).

Forward, into space! I don't think you'll regret playing Mass Effect. I didn't like it at first, but it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time. The game starts off a bit slow, but it picks up once the games allows you to travel around the galaxy.

I decided to completely ignore my random pick (for the moment) and play Hitman Blood Money instead after seeing it's general praise. I gotta say, the game is pretty drat hard and unforgiving at times. I'm up to the mental hospital level (e: rehab clinic actually) and it's been a struggle every bit of the way. Yet it's still very fun as you try to figure out the best way to accomplish the level. fatpat268 fucked around with this message at 17:10 on Feb 21, 2011 |

It took me 5 hours to complete but I didn't attempt many of the challenges so going for them there would be about another 10 hours involved as well as another 5 hour playthrough with Kane and Lynch as well as whatever other DLC packs there are. Yea, I tried using mouse and keyboard for GoL, but I ended up reverting to my 360 controller. The controls aren't TOO bad for most instances, but there's some challenges that are near impossible without a controller.

It reminds me a bit of the trial and error gameplay I had to do in the Splinter Cell series, but more varied. On a side note... I relapsed and bought Fallout NV Dead Money and C&C RA3. :\

So I finished Hitman Blood Money. Awesome ending, imo. I don't know what's next. Perhaps I'll blow through ME2 (having a hard time maintaining interest... second playthrough) or perhaps play some more Fallout NV Dead Money. I'm not really liking Dead Money so far though. E: Decided to take on Sin Episodes: Emergence. Too bad it's only episode 1 and only episode, but god that game is horrifically mediocre. It's completely linear and there's zero sense of exploration. I was glad the game was over. Took less than 3 hours to beat. Edit #2: I tried playing the Oddworld games, but they don't play nice with my controller and I really don't feel like playing that game with a keyboard. I may emulate on a PS1 emulator instead. In the meantime, I've been making some progress on my backlog and I recently tackled Jolly Rover... which is a pirate-themed adventure game. Not nearly as good as the Monkey Island series, but it has its charm. fatpat268 fucked around with this message at 16:58 on Feb 27, 2011 |

I beat Homefront. What a poo poo game. Meh. I'm still angry I preordered the game and have no recourse in trading it in. It's unlikely I'll ever play it again because the MP is terrible too for many reasons. At least I got Metro 2033 out of it, and a TF2 item (not that I play TF2...).

Guillermus posted:Can you please explain your experiences with Homefront please? Short campaign (less than 4 hours), full of scripted crap... sometimes your next objective won't start until you're standing in the exact spot. Full of following a leader, COD style (which is ok I guess, I'm just getting tired of the concept). Your teammate AI is braindead stupid, and more often than not you're jockeying for cover. They rarely help you and are nothing more than a waste of space. Enemy AI loves to hide in corners of houses (campers!), which wouldn't be a problem if you could shoot through cover (you can't). SP is awfully short, and they take a decent concept, enemy occupation of america, and do literally nothing with it. It's a hodgepodge of objectives only loosely tied together. As far as the multiplayer... well it's ok. It's kind of a love or hate thing. I hate it because most games degenerate into a sniper campfest. Every gun is essentially a laser gun, and all the weapons are hitscan (if you snipe somebody across the map, all you have to do click their head and they're dead... no bullet travel or drop to worry about). Every gun is deadly accurate with little recoil. Maps are a mess, and Homefront's main MP mode, Ground Control, is a loving mess. Ground control is loosely based on a combination of BF's conquest and rush mode. Hold a majority of points (conquest style), and eventually the map will shift to a new set of points (rush style). Which is ok, but it'll only ever happen twice in a match, and it's not that interesting. For all that, the MP has some interesting ideas. You don't have to be the best player to get all the cool toys. You can save up your Battle Points that you accumulate for doing certain things (capturing objectives, spotting, assists, kills, etc) and redeem them for air strikes, helicopters, tanks, etc. It's a nice mechanic that's surprisingly balanced well, as I haven't seen a match where there's too many vehicles yet. The downside though, is that if you're not a great player, the match will likely be over or near over by the time you have enough points for anything. It's not a completely bad game by any stretch, it's just not at all worth the $50. At $20, it would've been completely worth it.

More people need to seriously play Duke Nukem 3D. There's a growing segment of people who see nothing wrong with the "COD-ification" of FPS games, and they've forgotten what a truly fun FPS is. That said, Duke Nukem 3D has surprisingly aged pretty well, and is still a ton of fun. I'd image the new Duke Nukem will stick to a similar formula. On a side note, if you like vanilla GTA4, you'll probably like the episodes just as much if not more. Ballad of Gay Tony is the best iteration of GTA4 there is, and puts the "fun" back into GTA. My only gripe was that I wish it were longer. Yodzilla posted:Bad Company 2's single player is really bad and misses out on any of the fun and humor that the first one had. I've lost a lot of interest in some recent FPS games because they boil down following a tight corridor in a shooting gallery. And that's not nostalgia speaking, I had a stellar experience with D3D and found myself seeking out other old school FPS games.

ManxomeBromide posted:Finished Monkey Island 2: Special Edition. Wow. Such a bad game. Even with the Special Edition there's only so much you can do to save the design. The puzzle chains are long, require absolutely epic amounts of backtracking, and are almost totally unclued - the guiding principle is "if you can be a dick to someone, do so, and once you've done enough of this the puzzle solutions will fall into place for you", for the most part. And then a couple of research puzzles that were actually pretty good. The Special Edition adds a director's commentary mode that has Gilbert and Schaefer and, uh, the other guy MST3King their own game. That's pretty much the only reason this was at all enjoyable. What? No! Heh, my first playthrough of Monkey Island 2 was actually what got me hooked on adventure games. I actually played through it 3 times, just so I could get a speed run under 3 hours, and another so I could record it for youtube. LOL. It's been a couple of months since I've played it, and I don't remember any puzzle really requiring a lot of backtracking. Most of the puzzles were self contained on the island you were on (unless my memory is sketchy). There certainly were some obtuse solutions (everyone who has played MI2, probably knows what I'm talking about). Although, you bring up a good point of the commentary. I meant to do a playthrough with the commentary, but I got burnt out when I did 3 playthroughs in a row, perhaps it's time to go back to it. Anyway, I've been playing through Mini Ninjas lately. It's actually pretty fun. It reminds me a lot of the action/adventure games from the PS1 era (like the Spyros and others). It's definitely kids oriented and easy, but it's not bad. I didn't even know I had it actually, apparently I got it from the Eidos pack I bought at one point.
