I've been lured into betting on MMA for the first time ever after watching Vitor Belfort highlights and and seeing the crazy odds for his winning in early rounds. Typically I'm very reluctant to bet at all (I'm a tonne of fun at casinos) but since I'm watching the show live at a bar with some mates I figured I'd spread half the aussie cost of PPV access (which is what I usually wind up paying for watching shows live) over Belfort taking the first three rounds.

Sportsbet has Vitor winning rd 1 at 13.00, rd 2 at 18.00 & rd 3 at 23.00. I doubt he'll have gas past the first two rounds at all but I still couldn't help myself from betting $15, $10 & $5 respectively. I'm still rooting for Weidman but it'll be easier to stomach his possible loss to a Vitor flurry with money on the table.

Gambling isn't for you.

Ha I don't doubt that at all, given I can't stand losing money and had to google terms like 'parlay' and 'multi-bet'. Nobody I know really gambles outside of sitting at pokies, and I don't follow enough sports to have any experience or grasp on sports betting. But what specifically do you think I did wrong here? Did I manage to spread the money around poorly or just not respecting what the odds are telling me about non-TRT Belfort's chances? I know this isn't the "Teach dickheads a basic understanding of sportsbetting" thread but it would be nice to know in case I ever do this again.

You bet $30. If Belfort wins in:

R1 you get $195
R2 you get $180
R3 you get $115

or you lose.

You could have put the $30 on Belfort finishing,, which is at 6.87 and returns $206, and you wouldn't have to worry about round 4 and 5

ahaha OK i see how i hosed up now, thanks for spelling it out

Sorry boys just a couple more quick questions. Which sites have Belfort winning at 6.87? The only Australian place I could find that takes bets on MMA was sportsbet which had it listed at 4.75. & what reason would they have for not falling in line with what I'm guessing are the offical/U.S/Vegas odds?

BTW If my soliciting for MMA gambling advice in a thread with :siren:DON'T BET ON MMA :siren: in the title is unwelcome please feel free to emptyquote and lmao the poo poo out of my dumb posts

I made $190 off a $20 multibet on Caraway-Lawlor-Tate-Dillashaw last week.

So I'm putting my remaining Paypal balance on some fights from UFC190;

$30 on Magny @ 2.42
$30 on Jessica Aguilara @ 4.32
& $23 on a 5 leg multibet of Magny-Aguilara-Stuve-Shogun-Rousey for a potential return of $586 and a likely return of $0.

$25 on a Cejuda-Lamas-Magny multibet that pays out $115. I am hyper aware that the last time I tried to make bank on the M A G N Y streak he got drowned by Maia so this money is already down the toilet.

Also $5 on four upsets combined to pay out $725; Alejandro Perez, Formiga, Diego Sanchez & Magny.

I only started poorly sportsbetting from UFC 187 onwards, why are bookies preferred by some than online? Better odds? The ability to haggle over the line?

My habit of making a bunch of multibets with long odds from every fight on a card seems like a fun and low stakes way to gamble on fights, until I come close to winning but end up short. Now the sun might as well have fallen from the sky I'm so miserable
