Mario Ancic has announced his retirement. Shame that he never really got to show us what he could do.

Just heard about Nadal's between-the-legs lob in the match.

I wouldn't be surprised if Murray beat Djok today, only to return to his lacklustre self in the second week of the French. Stosur's looking pretty hot right now, if she can keep that serve going she'll be pretty tough to stop.

I've been reduced to audio commentary for the Murray/Djok match, but Murray's broken to serve at 4-3 in the third!

Certainly sounds like a good one. It's fun to give Murray a hard time, but I do enjoy watching him play when he's not choking. I hope he can bring his top game to a major final some day. wow, Murray serving for the match now.

Slightly underwhelming schedule of play tomorrow. Old no-bra Goerges is on though.

The British #2 James Ward, who's outside the top 200, has beaten Wawrinka, an injured Querrey, and some other loser to reach the last four at Queen's. If Murray reaches the finals and Ward beats Tsonga (who dumped out a tired Nadal today), then we'd have the very unusual prospect of an all British final at a premier event.

Sodbury posted:Also, can someone tell me why Tipsarevic is seeded 7 spots above his ranking? I wasn't aware that he was particularly good on grass - he even lost in the first round in last year's Wimbledon. I read this on Pete Bodo's blog, which might help explain things: Pete Bodo posted:Wimbledon's seeding formula takes a players ESP (Entry System Position, or computer ranking) and adds 100 percent of the points he or she earned for all grass-court tournaments in the past 12 months, and 75 percent of the points earned for the best grass tournament in the 12 months before that. In essense, the system double counts grass-court performance over a two-year period. Serena looked absolutely exhausted when she lost to Zvonareva. Venus out today as well. Quite possible that they'll get embarrassed in the first week at Wimbledon.

Murray and Nadal out of Montreal! Saw the Goerges/Williams match yesterday... conditions were ridiculous, shame Goerges couldn't push it to three. Is Serena really going to be the favourite going into the Open?

My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw that scoreline, wish I could've seen it. Verdasco must be crushed... perhaps not as much as when he lost that match to Nadal at the Australian though.

And Federer is indeed in Djokovic's half, which has been the case in 14 of 16 slams. Who fancies making a new thread?

Spain and Argentina through to the Davis Cup final. Shame, could've had another best-of-five Nadal v Djokovic if Serbia made it through... not that anyone would have cared!

Shoulder problems apparently, probably just wants to call it quits for the rest of the year now. If Federer wins Basle it'll be his first title since Doha at the start of his year!

Good to see Djokovic could make it to Paris to collect his massive bonus cheque. Dropped a set against Troicki today though.

drat, should be a good match, wish I could watch it. Federer will take this I think.

I could've bought a court side ticket for this match, but instead I'm sitting at home doing my laundry and listening to Tim Henman's horrible commentary. That'll teach me to procrastinate. Fed looking good at the moment, probably best placed to win this tournament.

Ferrer was pretty sportmanslike in his defeat of Murray today. At one point in the second set he gifted Murray a replay of a first serve by declaring a broken ball. During the match Murray aggravated a groin injury, so he's deciding whether he can continue the tournament tomorrow. Would be a shame if he couldn't play a couple more games in front of a home crowd.

Yes nicely done Ferrer, guy's a hard worker. Good to see a man of average height in the top 10... it could've been me!

charismaslover posted:Federer v Tsonga for the title. I like that the first singles match of the tournament features the same players as the last. Also, this is the third successive Sunday they've spent together on court. I can actually watch a match for a change! Looking forward to this. Go Fed!

The thought of a slam without Federer is too strange to contemplate, hopefully he'll recover. Dolgopolov v Murray in the Brisbane final. That match will have some weird rallies.

Six Britons in the main singles draw of a slam... I'll be damned. Will be interesting to see how Murray's approach changes under Lendl's coaching.

Big names proceeding as expected in Dubai. Murray beats Berdych for the first time in a while, and gets Djokovic in the semis. Federer to play Tsonga or Delpo.

Sodbury posted:It's really dumb and shouldn't be happening, but it's kind of hard to restrict. Novak is the three-time defending champion and ranked #1 at the moment, so the tournament directors will bend over backwards to do anything that keeps him coming to Dubai. Yeah pretty much down to the organisers I think. They also gave one to an unranked 30-year-old from Dubai, and Sergei Bubka, whose father is a legendary pole vaulter.

yeah not bad going for Murray. His rivalry with Federer pretty interesting really... he leads 8-6 and all those meetings have been on hard courts.

Fed does love those super fast courts. Hopefully he can grab another major or two instead of seeing out the rest of his career as a 3-set specialist.

Good going Radwanska. Doesn't shriek, doesn't celebrate winners like a two-year-old, doesn't sulk, and plays clever tennis. Also I believe Sharapova said something like "isn't she back in Poland already?" when asked for a response to Radwanska's comments on shrieking in the women's game. Must be nice to retort with a win like that.

Who thinks Nadal will defend Monte Carlo for the millionth time? Djokovic has lost a couple of matches this year, I suppose, but with Rafa's knees flaring up again I reckon he's got a pretty good shot to record his, what, eighth consecutive win?

Nadal thinks it's an issue with the unevenness of the court under the clay topcoat. http://tennis.si.com/2012/04/20/rafael-nadal-concerned-about-court-surface-in-monte-carlo/

Apparently it's playing more like a hard court though, so that won't please Nadal much. They have to strip the natural redness out of the clay and re-dye it, so bound to change the action. Still, if it plays like a hard court, why not use blue clay in the hard season and SAVE THE KNEES!?
