I got wisps of that while playing act 3, but they could have done it a lot better. The way it's written, the biggest "sacrifice" you make is that you lose out on all the satisfying character growth from act 2.

Why not have there be trade offs? Like Veronica lives, but Hendrick has no reason to join your party, so you stay strangers. Or Grand Master Pang survives, but Mia has no way to get revived. Or at the very least you lose the casino in Octagonia.

But instead the game tries to give you everything, with contrived reasons for keeping the stuff that should have been lost, even down to Serena's grief haircut. They even let you save Michelle, even though she died in act 1.

I mean, there was something gratifying about finally getting your way, after all of acts 1 and 2 were about withstanding blow after blow after blow, but it was shallow, and could have been so much better.

Michelle can survive act 1, so I guess they assumed that's the choice players made?

What's the pedigree of the studio that's doing the Dai no Daibouken anime? Because they're really, really good at what they're doing. The animation is topnotch, the fight scenes are really well animated and even when they use CG it's done pretty well.

Toei is very hit or miss, that said even they aren't stupid enough to piss SE, Shuesha and the DQ fandom off at the same time.

It turns out Sugiyama had an eternally binding contract with Square that all DQ games must have his music one way or the other.

Hope you like some nostalgic tunes.

I got this title for free due to my proximity to an idiot who wanted to save $5 on an avatar by having someone else spend $9.95 instead.
He had some lovely views but hearing the soundtracks to the NES Dragon Quest games transports me back to my childhood, watching my mom play them and occasionally getting to help grind levels for her as she did stuff around the house.

I can’t express the dichotomy better than Nadia Oxford did about his passing: “...Kids, try to live a life that'll let people mourn your passing without compromise.”

Good riddance. Guy was a real piece of poo poo, and no amount of iconic music will make up for that, no matter how it makes me feel.

Cheating helped me fail the test and stay on the show.
I can't wait for Resetera to try and take down every single Japanese composer/game director who pays condolences to Sugiyama (for the record I think Sugiyama is a vile piece of poo poo and I don't mourn him at all, but I can't deny that his music is legendary and influenced many Japanese composers)

Sugiyama seems like a bad dude but I'm unaware of his bad views were ever particularly influential or consequential on domestic policy, or if he was just an unsurprisingly racist and homophobic 90 year old. Like was he out there recruiting or using his money to hurt people, or did he just personally have lovely beliefs?

he invited politicians onto his tv show to talk about how gay people are ruining society.

she isnt even a big politician he was gonna get ratings from shes a nobody

https://twitter.com/MichaelTCucek/status/1021564645251792896

he absolutely sought her out to make those comments on his show.

he also took out full-page ads denying the existence of comfort women and japanese war crimes.

so no, he didnt just have lovely beliefs. he was actively using the money he earned from his composing career, as well as the small fame it earned him, to advance awful politics and hurt people.

iirc he was extremely nationalistic and denied the war crimes japan commited during world war 2. he was also a homoophobe and claimed there wasn't any need for lgbt education in japan while ignoring the high suicide rates

He was a good composer decades ago. DQXI's music wasn't particularly memorable compared to the earlier work but his NES/SNES era stuff was overall good. Unlike his views or behavior as a person. He should've retired 20 years ago.

There was the time he was part of the group that wanted to take out full page ads in the washington post and new york times that was full of "facts" concerning nanking and to let people "come to their own conclusions"

It was in 2007 and both papers told them to gently caress off in the nice way so the ads were never run but I'm willing to judge based on the intent here
