I just finished VI last night. It was really great, and I think it's probably my second favorite DQ now. (after V)

Now I'm trying to beat the bonus boss, Nokturnus and holy poo poo. Probably gonna have to grind up a bunch for that. :smith:

I completely beat Nokturnus last night, in under 20 turns.

Afterwards, he teleports himself and my party to Mortamor and then proceeds to beat the poo poo out of him. It was pretty loving cool.

Also about DQ5, I just started it and I'm in the second town doing some leveling. Is it like a DQ thing that boomerangs are loving awesome in every game? They kicked rear end in 8 and after saving up enough to get the first one in 5 my hero suddenly a powerhouse.
The boomerang is generally pretty great, but it's only in DQ5/8 that it really comes in handy, especially early on. In DQ6 and 7, you can get some all enemy-hitting attacks pretty quickly if you master the right classes.

Yeah, but I honestly feel like it works in its favor. The controls are laid out in a way that you can play the whole game one-handed and it's pretty awesome.

Honestly, with that in consideration along with party chat added back in, I think the mobile version of DQIV is pretty much the best version. Never thought I'd say that about any mobile port ever, but here we are!

Okay, so I've been interested in getting into DQ, and it seems like the four DS ones are the best place to start. There's a Gamestop about half an hour from where I am that has 4 for 15.00, and one that's a 20-minute walk away with 6 for :20bux:, so I can get both of those for a completely reasonable amount. The problem is going to be tracking down 5. There aren't any Gamestops nearby with a copy, and both Amazon and Ebay are selling it for disgusting prices. Does anyone know of a good way to get DQ5 for anything under 30.00?

If you have an apple/android device, I would definitely recommend getting DQ4 on that. It looks a bit nicer, and you can pretty much play it with one hand. It also has party chat, a feature that lets you talk to your party members whenever you want, which was taken out of the DS version. It's also only 15 bux.

NES DW4's AI didn't "learn" anything. You could fight the same enemy 50 times and the AI would still do the same stupid poo poo every time. AI would use magic against metal slimes/babbles/kings all the time in addition to the sheer uselessness they had in boss fights.

This is why I played Dragon Warrior 4 in an emulator, there's a cheat(I think, it's been a while) that let's you control your party members manually. Made the game much more bearable.

Late-ish game spoilers- Wow, the villagers of Vogograd are human garbage. "We believe that you and this kid WHOSE PARENTS GOT KILLED BY THE MONSTERS are in collusion with them. Obviously we have to beat the poo poo out of you and also the kid WHOSE PARENTS GOT KILLED BY MONSTERS." Also feel like my dudes, who have all mastered a variety of different, very powerful classes by now, could've handled the situation instead of letting themselves get beaten by a bunch of fuckin peasants with sticks. Out of a game with such well written vignettes all throughout, this(and maybe Greenthumb, but to a far lesser extent) is the only one that made me feel legit angry at the stupidity of the situation.

Yeah I just finished it and lol. I know the stupidity of the villagers is absolutely intentional, I guess I was more pissed that my party did nothing to defend themselves from a mob of ignorant jerks.

I did almost shout at my 3DS when the elder in the present smashed the real inscription. I guess it's good to know that the kids learned the truth and they'll pass that on to future generations, but fuuuuuuuuuuck the villagers. Vogograd is a garbage dump.

Beat VII a few days ago, and besides the name changes to the main party(which you can change in Alltrades so whatever), the localization is muuuuuuuuuuuch better than the original ps1 version. Gabo is still the best wolf-child.

Okay, here's a question whose answer could be a potentially big spoiler. Just got to the second region, around 8 and a half hours in:

All of the Cobblestone villagers aren't actually dead right? I know DQ4 did this before but I felt way more invested here and also I didn't see any dang bodies! No need for anything explicit, just, will I find out about Gemma or my mom's or my dog's fates later or something like that?

if it's the cell doors you're talking about, you'll probably need the ultimate key for those, which you don't typically get until waaaaay later in these games

Who else(mid to somewhat late game spoilers) won a shitload of tokens through the slots at the casino in Octagonia only to lose all of them after beating the boss there? I would have been angry, but I went back and got a jackpot for a cool million afterwards at the slots, so it wasn't too bad.
