Favorabilis Solitud posted:There are some pretty awesome Saturn games that never made it over to the US. Saturn emulation sucks right now and there is no translation community. Saturn emulation is actually pretty alright now, a lot of games run just fine in SSE, which is astonishing considering what a congealed heap of poo poo the hardware is.

neongrey posted:That's the PS2 remake and it was some weird NG+ dealie that even then required some absolutely ridiculous convoluted stuff, iirc. For starters you had to have a cleared save from the remake of PS1. And a clear save for PS2 also. PS1 for PS2 () has a translation patch, PS2 does not at this point. PS1's remake is probably the best way to play it, because it speeds it right the hell up, but PS2's is kinda eehhh. The dungeons are still really hard to see and they didn't adjust the difficulty at all. On that note, there's a PS2 collection of the Phantasy Star games that contains all the US versions also and lets you up movement speed, EXP and money drop-rates and save state whenever you want. It's a really loving good collection and is available on Japan's PSN and from memory works just fine with OpenPS2Loader and PCSX2. e: I wrote about PS1/2 a while back and spent forever researching all the ports, so if wanna know anything about a specific one I can probably let you know.

Already gone, but like was said, that's just the visitor/store thing. The actual multiplayer is local wireless only. Also the emulated WFC server has the DLC stored, if you use a flashcart/emulator/ActionReplay: https://github.com/polaris-/dwc_network_server_emulator/wiki/Nintendo-DS-Download-Content

Repetitive and shallow compared to a simplistic JRPG that hasn't really changed its very basic battle system since the late eighties? I like Dragon Quest a bunch but come on man.

Electromax posted:I know it's JP only and a few years old - has anyone here played it? Is it any good, or did it bomb? Is DQ11 going to be the same deal? I played a few hours of it. It's good, and does a fine job of transplanting DQ battles into an MMO. It's fairly popular over there, especially with the younger players (having the kid's time thing helps and is a stroke of genius). Hori has said that DQXI will be a regular DQ game and also not for phones.

Oh yeah, been playing DQ3 on and off on my phone. It's a bit tough in places, (up to the desert town that warns of counterfeit dancing girls operating in the area, average level of 12) but I'm enjoying it. It's a good, meaty game.

So I've just started getting my DQ3 characters to 20 (immediately changed my Gadabout to Sage), what are good classes to change them to? Currently Hero/Martial Artist/Sage/Priest.

It honestly doesn't bother me inconsistency aside, the worst offender being FF14 1.x using ra/ga/ja and 2.x using numerical.

1/2 are the only real "eh" ports and that's mainly due to aspect/stretching. I believe the phone port of 4 put Party Talk back in, so there's that.

If they do it's not going to be for a fair while, as it'd cannibalize the 3DS version, which is a higher price than a phone release would be.

Granted, I apparently got really lucky and only saw one desperate attack out of Rashers/Stripes in the rematch. I was able to beat the final boss of the sequence pretty handily by buffing up and focusing on healing while letting the guest party member beat him into the ground. I had Rashers end one turn by desperately smacking Seven in the face, then immediately doing the same thing on the start of the next turn. I eventually got past them, got through the passage to the arena..and then realized I didn't stand on the platform to get my abilities back because I didn't see the loving orb in the air oh my god please strike me down where I stand

Is that... is the RNG directly dependent on one character's inventory? Is it an Easter Egg? Do the items spell an acronym in Japanese? What the hell? From reading the original thread and glancing at TCRF - seemingly it's just a debug flag that someone managed to stumble upon. But no, it's only in that version. Both the DS and PS2 versions have their own debug menus if you're running some sort of cheat solution or emulator, though.
