Akiyama to me isn't a Hall of Famer in truth. Being in the main event for a long time does not mecessarily make you an all time great. He is always below Misawa, Kawada and Kobashi on the totem pole... he's like a Japanese DDP to me almost. He was great, but he's not an all time great.

AJ is going to get in eventually. He was the only self made man in TNA that from beginning to end was seen as so much better than it all. Yeah he had a tonne of lovely angles during it but he was always AJ and his time without it just shows how loving good he is.

I'm not super familiar with the pecking order in NJPW right now but there's probably a world of difference between a top guy losing to a tag team of other top guys (which is how most of the NPJW tags with top guys generally seem to go) or to an established tag team, not bottom of the barrel jobbers.

The Rock in his era of being THE ROCK would be on the losing side of tag matches all of the time, if he was getting pinned or just losing against Kurt Angle and HHH or Edge & Christian or something like that. They didn't generally have his buddy get pinned by Lo Down.

Also I just realized I'm comparing Big Cass to the Rock, I apologize.

Naito is doing well when NJPW has transitioned to its new Ace during what was the peak of its company in the last fifteen years.

Matt Hardy has managed to revive a company that has never had a peak, ever*, single handedly, and no one even cares to see him wrestle to do it.

*We can discuss 2005 X-Division until we're blue in the face but that was a shining star amongst poo poo, both before and after.

Bryan Alvarez didn't understand why people would boo TJ Perkins, that he's fantastic in the ring and he's been fantastic in the tournament. He thinks the only reason why they're not happy with him is because he beat favorites. That he thinks it's just Full Sail and they're all a bunch of "GEEKS!"

When even Vinny can say he doesn't see what Bryan sees in him, you know Bryan is getting cozy in his bubble.

On the other hand the Full Sail reason was he beat Rich Swann and Johnny Gargano who were their guys (not to mention Ibushi) which is a really old argument either way. The anger at TJP far outweighs anything that can be realistically argued.

Bryan goes the extreme other direction by thinking he should be cheered, but the middle ground here of "don't boo the great wrestler vociferously for spurious reasons" seems to have been lost in the same weird void occupied by Roman Reigns and John Cena.

As for arguments they're geeks... i'm still staring at the front row guy wearing Paul Heyman Guy shirt. He's the biggest meme since Turns-Back-On-Triple-H man.

Edit: on the other hand their complete bewilderment at people booing Roman really is dull headed. They're booing him because they want him to be heel, him being heel would solve all the drat problems. That's pretty clear. Same argument can be levied at TJP but having an out and out heel win the tournament from the get go would've been a loving awful business decision.

Dave talking about how Gedo should be in the Hall of Fame for his booking is a good argument.

Everyone thought NJPW was in dire straits last year losing three main eventers at once, Hiroshi Tanahashi's shoulder was dying, Suzuki was over in NOAH, and Okada had only just been coronated as The Ace without being tested whether he could do it without Tanahashi.

He was watching, Danielson's whole thing is that every single match of his was way above average and the capacity to get the best out of any opponent. There was some five star matches in there, most obviously against Morishima or McGuinness, but he was in the Benoit of Eddie sphere. They didn't kill 5 stars matches every week but they were still the best in the world.

If you have not done so listen to the Bryan and Vinny NWA show from this weekend. The glee of describing Four Horsemen is one thing, but the triple shot of the jobber matches is just some of the most awesome listening ever - including one jobber who is worse than Vladimir Petrov, Survivor Jenna, Rebel or Shelly Martinez. The 19 year ago Raw/Nitros have become, as time went on, a complete re-appraisal of how the Attitude Era was and more and more that it wasn't just that WWF had Austin and Rock, but that WCW actively had to try and lose and were doing so, because WWF overall loving sucked so much and was much worse than WCW.

The Headbangers have become a negative meme. Conversely Meng and the Barbarian are retrospectively considered the best tag team of all time that isn't the Steiner Brothers.
