You lucky bastard. On multiple levels nonetheless.

I was uninitiated on both, so I'm glad you posted these because they're both right up my alley. Thanks. On to bandcamp I go...

Beautiful. Wonderful. Masterful. I am full.

I had been completely unfamiliar with Howling Giant until seeing them open for Ruby The Hatchet and Elder in San Francisco but they were pretty great. Bassist was having a ton of fun on stage

Astrodeath were lots of fun, and Dr. colossus were fantastic.

I do not get the appeal of Orange Goblin. I love Motörhead. I love stoner metal. But they don't really work together. Not this particular flavor anyway. High On Fire are much better at it.

Yeah they all looked like they were having a total blast and were also a lot of fun to chat with at the merch table afterwards.

Yeah, he was filling in for Dale in October when I saw Melvins, and he didn't even need Dale there to make A History of Bad Men sound like there were two drummers. Dude is great at what he does, and the best possible replacement for Des.

While I acknowledge that this likely strays too far from SDS to be included in this thread, I think some folks here might dig it. Like a 90s slowcore record layered with sheets of fuzz, songs that build up tension before shaking loose with sloooow riffs.

Stuff like Child isn't stoner doom but fits here. Stuff like whores isn't stoner doom but fits here. Stuff like Goat fits here. But there's a few similarities and undercurrents in the styles that links them all together.

prett much, thats what i listen to most/any music for. I think its safe to assume most people in here are going to have an interest in the more psychedelic stuff like Goat, khruangin etc. so while it doesnt exactly fit the topic its all fun music thats worth sharing. (speaking of, Check out Glass Beams if you like either of those bands I mentioned)

Sleepmakeswaves are Aussie :) not really my thing, but they've been around for a long time so they're doing something right.

post-<$genre> doesnt work for me, not sure why. any time I cant put my finger on why I dont like a band i look up the genre and its always post-punk or post-metal.

VERY Keen for the new Whores. album.

This thread moves slow enough that diversions into not strictly s/d/s are always cool. I've learned about new stuff here that I probably wouldn't have anywhere else because it's a chill thread about good music.

Speaking of Goat, I've been listening to the Levitation Sessions lately and it's good.

Straight up. I'm always looking for new music, especially related to SDS.

I don't think King Buffalo fits into the genre perfectly but it absolutely fits the vibe and I never would've heard of them otherwise. Prolly not the best example.

Uhhh, I found Teen Mortgage on Doom Charts year end best of lists. Not SDS at all but great music.

SDS is a vibe

Im actually about to watch that on my TV! Levitation Sessions are always visually great and Goat are already visually stimulating.

I still think the Slift Levitation Session is an all timer for visuals. I haven't actually watched the Goat one, maybe ought to do that next time.

I've never listened to Whores. before this discussion, so thanks again thread. They sound a lot like Kyuss at times. I think they're perfect for this thread.

I remember when I completely accidentally discovered King Buffalo a few years ago. I was looking for Lord Buffalo but couldn't remember their name so just searched "King Buffalo" on youtube. After about an hour of listening I came in this thread all breathless and about 4 people said "OH yeah, they own, listen to more of them." Now they're one of my favorites by far.

Anyway,

I had never heard of Levitation and I went to check it out after I posted and now I'm halfway into the Shift Session.

Same about Whores. They rock but had no idea before the thread.

Levitation sessions are usually all available on bandcamp either on the bands page or on the levitation sessions page.

the youtube channel is great but they sometimes gently caress up with a bunch of ads in the wrong spot and gently caress paying for premium. A few of these were filmed during covid as online concerts, which was cool.

my favorite Levitation Session is is probably Fuzz's one - it looks incredible on my OLED TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0Ctf9Ho_CI

its definitely got that second-album-cliche, over-produced poppy sheen to it. DFA1979s third album did something similar and a lot of people got steamed but its kind of a cool way to freshen up the same sound, especially if it subverts expectations (the art then becomes sticking the landing)

I actually think its pretty similar to Gold in a lot of ways. its been 8 years and a few lineup changes, you'd think they would've written and shelved 2-3 albums worth by now, yet this still all sounds like it came out right after, without feeling as half assed and late to the party as Fear Innoculum did for Tool.

kinda missing some of the 'im old, tired and mad about it' energy but its definitely still there on my first few listens.
