Tangentially related:

I thought my fellow stoner/doom/sludge aficionados might enjoy checking out Sir Christopher Lee's album "Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross". Part opera/part metal, all parts badass.

Do you know who was drumming for weedeater?

They had three, a baldish, red-beard guy, then the drummer from St. Vitus, then the drummer from Sourvein. I was wondering what they'd do after I read about him leaving. (Henry Vasquez from St. Vitus is a nice drummer, just watch out for sticks whizzing into the crowd.)

That's my friend Nick.

I knew I had read somewhere who it was, but couldn't remember where. Me being un-musical I always wonder how hard it is to learn a bunch of songs real fast.

It's very easy to learn songs like Weedeater's (along with most music) quickly. You just need to learn the important cues like where to be quiet, stops in the music, clean parts, and solos. A couple quick listens of Weedeater's setlist and you can bullshit your way through a set. Most people (I would, because I play drums) don't pay attention to that poo poo because they just want to see Dixie play bass.

For tech death/prog metal it's way more tough. There are a lot of odd time signatures and weird poo poo happening so, depending on the musician's prior-knowledge and skill it would take a while.

Cool, cool. Yeah, I could totally see that being the case. Just hit those crash cymbals a lot and you'll be ok...lol.

And watching Dixie play bass is pretty fun. Also whiskey.

Caught The Sword on the last show of the tour back here in Austin tonight. If you haven't seen them live yet, go check 'em out!

Try some Witch Mountain maybe? You remind me of me from back when, and I've been listening to a lot of Cauldron of the Wild the last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ko4YwjB2wY

Have any of y'all ever been to Roadburn? Looking for trip reports, thinking about maybe trying to go next year.

A couple of y'all have mentioned Witch Mountain's latest Mobile of Angels. Don't sleep on this people. Uta's last record with the band and it's an awesome one. I love every track and that last one is a killer knowing that it's the last new WM song with Uta I'll ever hear. WM definitely fits the bluesier spectrum of doom.

Also another standout for me this year was not-so-strictly doom from Agalloch with Serpent & The Sphere. Fantastic. Both bands outta Portland and both albums recorded by Billy Anderson.

So I just bought 3-day tickets to Psycho 2016.
Pretty amped I must say.

Really looking forward to Candlemass. Hoping beyond hope Messiah makes a special appearance just for me.

Psycho LV! You know, just standing around, behind Jus and Liz from EW waiting for Tribulation to start playing next to a pool under palm trees...that kinda thing. Cave of Swimmers stand out for me....of course Witch Mountain, Kayla Dixon....dang. And Uncle Acid live and in person...upped my fandom of them to Himalayan proportions.
