The Sword are playing the El Rey in Los Angeles on Dec. 12th. I haven't had a chance to see them live yet, should be a fun show. I can't stop listening to Warp Riders.

I saw HoF in Chicago and the show was pretty boring. :(

Goatwhore slayed, though.

I saw High On Fire at the Wicker Park Street Fest like 6 or 7 years ago and it was loving AMAZING. Nothing like seeing a nice and heavy band playing out in the middle of a crowded city street with the El Train showering sparks every now and again from up above.

e: Saw The Sword last night at El Rey in Los Angeles. What a fun show, I even liked the opening bands. American Sharks from Texas were pretty good, and the 2nd opener, Gypsyhawk, had a song about Robert Baretheon that they played which was pretty hilarious. Also, when they introduced their drummer, they followed it with "FIrst of his name." haha.

Seeing this post reminded me about checking the local venues to see if Palms is playing anytime soon. They're playing the troubadour this week and it sold out. Happy birthday to me. :smith:

I'm seeing them at the end of the month in Pioneertown, CA and this just made me that much more excited for that gig. King Buzzo owns.

Melvins in Vancouver last night was pretty great, as expected. At least until some asshat threw something and hit Buzz and they told us to gently caress off and walked out. Alas, I'm just glad they got through Roman Dog Bird before poo poo hit the fan. :)

What the hell, someone threw something at Buzz? That's hosed up. I wonder if that's why security was being overly-dickish at the Pappy & Harriet's gig. People started slamming into each other during the last part of the Melvins set so I pushed my way up front only to be grabbed by security and kicked out of the venue for "slam dancing." I would've been pissed, but I had a great time up until that point (The food at that place is incredible, and the Melvins played Night Goat!) and could only laugh when I realized what was actually happening.

Electric Citizen and Red Wizard gave me two false start heart attacks thinking that Electric Wizard were in that lineup. :sigh:

Good luck! I'm sad there's no Bristol show but at least I'll see Sea Bastard in May...

See you there, the lineup looks amazing and I'm excited to see what the final bands announced tomorrow are.

e: Whoops, turns out the announcement was today: GHOLD, METH DRINKER, WEAK, OBLIVIONIZED and VENOM PRISON. Don't know most of them but Meth Drinker are awesome. Full lineup:

I think there are still a couple weekend tickets available if anyone doesn't have theirs yet.

There's a band called Tryptycon? Are they any good?

That is cool! Yeah, Mikey has some side projects. One was just him with a distorted synth making noise. Another is called Uusikuu (I think) which was just him with his ex-lady on keys and vox. Dos Males is the only one that recorded though.

You know how it is in a smaller city like Madison, lots of crossover and side projects. Magma is the drummer and vocalist for The Garza, which has the ex-bass player from Droids Attack. It's not stoner-y but more like Jesus Lizard, and Magma has a killer voice. I know about most of these bands like Droids Attack and The Garza because I do all the art for their albums.

I don't always want to pimp my friends out too much, but Droids Attack did some really cool packaging for their CD. The songs were all "ancient aliens" and "Mayan apocalypse" based, so I did the art based on that idea as well. We were proud of how it turned out :) It was a long process. Plus, Droids plays some really solid stoner punk, kinda standard sometimes but that's how you keep it going for so long!

I didn't even know Teri was married. I saw her in a conversation just last week with Alice Bag from the Bags, where they talked about latino punk culture and everything that encapsulates. poo poo was loving awesome and I really hope she tours again soon (preferably as Crystal Fairy!)
