Dark Castle's "Spirited Migration" is on heavy rotation on my playlist. Any recommendations for similar bands? In particular I like that the vocals are growled.

Give Adai a try. Not as ball-crushingly heavy as Dark Castle but I find they scratch the same itch.

Anyone have any nominations for album of the year? For me, it's From The Ages by Earthless, with Mario Rubalcaba as MVP.

SubRosa's More Constant Than the Gods for me. It's bleak, heavy, but beautifully melodic. I was a fan of their last album (which itself was an improvement on their previous records) but this one feels more cohesively a whole.

A close second would be Inter Arma's Sky Burial.

Never heard of these guys before today, but the heaviness of this one took me by (pleasant) surprise.

A friend took me to Boris a few days ago and Atsuo tried to kill an audience member for filming. That was fantastic.

The Atlas Moth and SubRosa really impressed me and I got my hands on their discographies but I need more. I generally only listen to dorky power metal so I have absolutely no idea where to go. Assistance? I'm super into this SubRosa track at the moment.

SubRosa's album previous to More Constant Than the Gods is pretty good but can't compare to what I would call a modern classic.

For similar bands look into Black Math Horseman, Ides of Gemini, and Worm Ouroboros. If you like the female vocals and are willing to go a little more stoner, there's a whole subgenre of occultish, female led stoner/doom out there for you: Blood Ceremony, Devil's Blood, Jess and the Ancient Ones, Witch Mountain, Royal Thunder, Electric Wizard, Windhand, Dark Castle, Jex Thoth. I'm sure I'm missing a bunch but there's plenty of ground to tread.

Oh dear god YES. Inter Arma is putting out a new album in a couple weeks, and it's a 40 minute long one-track album called 'The Cavern'.

If you never checked out their previous album 'Sky Burial', you need to rectify that immediately.

Oh lord, thank you for this heads up. Sky Burial is so insanely good.

You're not kidding. I think this may top Sky Burial for me.

Pre-release listen for anyone interested; it's a single 45 minute track: http://pitchfork.com/advance/567-the-cavern/

Instrumental cosmic doom, done by a pair of brothers who are very nice guys. Check it out if that's your thing.

Enjoyed this, thanks.

Is there anything out there like Loss' Despond? I don't stray much into funeral doom but I'd love to find something with the same feel.
