And yeah his content is a bit better (although if you actually suffer through and listen, a lot of the Lasers stuff isn't bad raps or content, it's just the corny production) but it's still a disappointment. And I don't even think it's just the electropop sounding stuff, it's that there's all this dumb singing over everything and it's supposed to be epic or something and it just sounds generic and bad. Yeah, pretty much this. It seems like every other hook is supposed to be lupe beating his chest yelling at the sky in the rain or something. Lupe's still strong lyrically but the whole thing just seems devastatingly average. There are some worthwhile tracks though. Still not a worthy "sequel" to F&L. I don't think he will ever put out anything near as good as The Cool or F&L ever again. Bummer. And on top of all that Lupe's wholier then thou persona has grown kind of annoying even though I agree with a lot of his politics.

GKMC is solid so far. Might prefer Section 80 though. Still, it's good, and it will take more time for me to figure it all out. How do you people listen to Gucci. E: Like check out this listening session. GKMC is probably a classic concept album. It's not illmatic, but it was never going to be. Kendrick is definitely his own breed. The mixture of everyday quirkiness, street life, and introspection is awesome. This verse sums up a lot of album. quote:Hot sauce in my Top Ramen, ya bitch Just awesome. Comparisons to MBDTF are pretty accurate imo. It's like the hood version of that album or something. Take out the money, the cars, and the success in general, you might get GKMC. On a song by song basis, Section 80 might be stronger. Anyone that flips through the clips on itunes will probably be disappointed. None of the choruses catch me like Ronald Reagen Era or even ADHD did, so I was initially dissapointed. But Kendrick is going for something different here I think, and it works better as a whole. also my friend works at a record store where kendrick did a signing recently and apparently he was kind of a dick hobbez fucked around with this message at 20:21 on Oct 19, 2012 |

Why isn't cartoons and cereal on the album. Is it because it's too old at this point? Cuz that would probably be a top three, if not the, strongest track on the album. It k-dot at his best imo. Also the cocaine biceps review of GKMC is the best. Thats one of his best Drake tares in a while.

temple posted:Point being, there are far more listeners than are easily grouped into conscious versus trap/dipset/whatever ignorance is popular. Which is why it is so annoying for people spend so much time trying to write off GKMC by discussing who they think are his fans instead the actual album. The only criticism of his music I've read is Rap music has this weird god-complex, hero worship poo poo embedded into the culture. In most other genres, I feel like you can release an album and just it is what it is amongst the fanbase. But nah, rap releases need to "CHANGE THE GAME YO, IM TALKIN STRAIGHT FIRE WE BE KILLIN IT UP IN HERE THE ALBUM CRAZY KNADADAMEAN". This is compounded by some serious sepia-rear end nostalgiaization of albums past. Mother fuckers will seriously defend their list of "classics" and will fight to the death if anyone wants to annoint a newcomer. But the whole argument if an album is a classic is so loving arbitrary. Nah we can't just take a great album for what it is we immediately need to throw it up against the illmatics and reasonable doubts of the world. Does a great rock album today need to immediately be compared to the Beatles? No. Much of the rap community has seriously fetishized the GOAT mentality and they are hungry as gently caress for the next tupac or nas or whatever, that blend of rawness and intelligence, and this is kind of manifesting itself in the GKMC release I think. And bitch I love it. hobbez fucked around with this message at 23:05 on Oct 29, 2012 |

Makes sense, but I'm never going to be interested in that stuff. No, the musical/lyrical content is really important. In GKMC, Kendrick sounds repentent, and struggles with his city's culture of violence. He never entirely condones or condemns it, but narrates and reflects on it. Keef blatantly condones and encourages it. It doesn't help when you compound that with Keef and Co.'s history of mocking gun violence and beating women though. hobbez fucked around with this message at 22:50 on Nov 13, 2012 |

Expect a lot of sing-a-longs for choruses too. Hahaha honestly how he kept repeating the choruses and telling the crowd to join in got kind of annoying but overall it was a good show.
