I love Clipse but the reason Pusha T is never going to be big is because his lyrics are too obscure for most people.

I mean, just compare his rapping about a coke deal vs 50 cent, the vocabulary that's used is mostly street code, you aren't supposed to know what he's referencing unless you're in the know (or you look up urbandictionary).

He just wasn't built to be a mainstream rapper, but that's alright because what he does is amazing and I hope he doesn't T-pain it up too much in the search for the paycheck.

Can we chat Trap/coke music for a sec,

Does anyone else do it better than Pusha-T (gently caress I wish Clipse didn't break up and lose the Neptune sound)?

I mean, I know Gucci goes harder sometimes and people like Ricky Ross do it bigger but in terms of authenticity to the actual grind, I can't think of anyone else that I enjoy more as an overall artist. Can anyone recommend anything?

And as a side note, for some reason this has been bothering me for a bit lately,

Gunplay and his ilk are what suburban white kids think the grind is like. He, much like Riff Raff are lost boys aping a culture they've never been a part of. Ain't no loving banger gonna get far with a swastika tat, sorry homie that don't fly. That's not to say that most other rap artists have ever really been 'in the game', because if you're in the game, you aren't thinking about a successful musical career where you get to make duets with mariah carey n poo poo. All of it is fantasy to one degree or another, aside from artists who just speak about it with a clear outsiders perspective.

This song holds up, still one of my faves from him (I mean the money counter sampling in the beat works pretty well you gotta admit)

The discussion would be silly, because even he used some of his record money to invest in some Colombian farmers hard work, or vice versa, it wouldn't change the fact that he's a music artist in the public sphere. We know of what he presents to us, judge the music by that. Getting musical tastes from what people do behind the scenes seems ultimately silly to me. And the rest is celebrity gossip, even if it's the Nancy Grace style courtroom poo poo.

Cam'ron dissed Three Six as being actors, they dissed Bone Thugs as being fake, Riff Raff is awesome but do you think he really sold drugs(and seriously he's making GBS threads on rap right now, holy gently caress... you know, just watch the Ace of Space video, remake of an old song but it slays), and Rick Ross was a cop. Who's "real" and what does being "real" lend to music? Maybe being "real" is just doing what you want to the best you can.

No, it's not about being 'real'. All of these guys are entertainers first, drug dealers don't loving sing songs, period. Biggie at his biggest was a small time pusher. Why would anyone, ever, choose to work two completely separate jobs, when both have the exact chance of making you rich (nill to none except for the rare few).

My bigger problem with it is it's now become completely acceptable for white artists to appropriate everything black culture had, use it as their own, and not even have the decency to call it something else. And the audience and critics doesn't bat an eye. In fact refer to weak poo poo like Riff Raff as 'real' with a half smirk.

Like, 'ya I know he's basically black loving face aping a culture to steal money from one of the few avenues young black artists have to make it out of their lovely circumstances...but it's alright because he's like on drugs and CRAAAAAZY'

A Clipse/Pusha-T fan review of Wrath of Caine

Overall: Meh
Somehow the trailer for the mixtape is better than the entire mixtape, certainly a way more interesting use of the beat than what ends up being used (Track 2, Millions).

1. Intro - Meh
2. Millions Feat Rick Ross - The mixtape trailer http://youtu.be/yBLat03LNmI with Reagan as the intro is awesome. Gives the whole thing clarity and purpose, instead we get another bullshit MMG track about money being hidden in places.
3. Doesnt Matter Feat - Decent lyrics
4. Blocka - Awesome beat, good song but it's really the only song that stands on it's own.
5. Road Runner - No idea who Troy Ave is or why he's loving up my songs with his autotune but again, lyrics are good
6. Revolution - Would have never guessed this was a Neptune's production, this is the second best song.
7. Only You Can Tell It - soft r'n'b bullshit, the high pitched voice does poo poo all for the song
8. Trust You Feat Kevin Gates - what the gently caress is this soft r'n'b doing in my drug music
9. Take My Life Feat Andrea Martin - decent
10. Liva-Re-Up Gang Motivation - I'll take any Re-up I can get, so can't complain here.
11. I Am Forgiven (Prod By B nk) - Meh

Really, the trailer should have been the intro to the album on repeat for 11 songs instead of this.
