It's where I check first when I'm trying to identify a sample. With the speed hip hop moves its never going to be completely comprehensive but it's pretty extensive and awesome. Useful for someone like me that likes to find samples from songs they really like. Bulging Nipples fucked around with this message at 10:32 on Mar 26, 2011 |

I get the feeling this is gonna be decisive in this thread but A.Dd+ dropped a free album today. They're out of Dallas; I've been following these guys for a bit, and they've grown on me. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, it's a really weird album. I get the feeling Andre 3000 is a huge influence of theirs, though they're no where near his level. Production is nice. I found it started kinda slow but standout tracks for me are Southbound, Greedy, Mary Go, Likeamug, Goodwill http://addplus.bandcamp.com/album/when-pigs-fly

Listened to the preview track and it sounds pretty nice so I'll def check the whole thing (although if it turns into nerdcore the aforementioned shitfest is going down) Ha, no they're not nerdcore. I've just shared some of their stuff with friends and the opinion seemed to be split right down the middle between real nice and a little weird for their taste

I see some of the Andre 3000 influence (a couple tracks would've fit in on Love Below imo) but it's not too heavy and they still do their own thing. You know who does the production cause it's really very varied? apparently Picnic Tyme produced the whole album. I'd never heard of them, but I'm gonna keep an eye out from now on http://www.picnictyme.com/

Like he doesn't know what to do with his hands so he's rehearsed 3 different variations of RAPHANDS but ends up half-heartedly swinging his arms around like a dosed muppet.

Sometimes they have all right djs spinning all right things. I think there's one local/PNW show, but we have one AWFUL scene, bunch a Anticon wannabes. I haven't lived there for about 3 years but when I left Seattle's hip hop radio situation was just as bad. One station "dedicated" to hip-hop but it was pretty much all R&B most of the time. Around noon they'd have an alright set called "old school lunch" where theyd play some good old stuff but it was always marred by lazy programming. Theyd play Will Smith's "Summertime" every single day during the spring/summer, that ain't the only summer anthem guys. Seattle's hip hop scene is small but growing so I never expected much of the radio, but I really did assume Houston of all places would have had more to offer on the radio

I think it was mentioned a couple pages ago but if people overlooked Kendrick Lamar's Section 80 give it a spin now because its pretty fuckin stellar. If nothin else the beats are nuts, gently caress Your Ethnicity is one of my favorite songs of the year. Ronald Reagan Era and The Spiteful Chant stand out for me too. I gave Lil B's album a listen too and while I really like the production and beat selection a lot I just don't like his mush-mouth mumbly flow, never have. I'd just rather hear someone else over it. That said as a non-fan it's a lot more listenable than a lot of his older material and he's doing some pretty interesting stuff. Also this has nothin to do with anything but I love this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n1Sj9weSBo diddy, 8ball&mjg, faith evans - roll with me Bulging Nipples fucked around with this message at 04:34 on Jul 9, 2011 |

They just dont seem to have the chemistry of say a Blackstar or Meth and Red on Blackout albums. It's a good album, but they never seem to have the same energy on the same track, and their chemistry together seems wasted. I don't know what else to say besides it's a good album but considering the two together I feel it should have been better could they have worked better together. The production is really nice but a lot of it feels VERY Kanye, considering his last album. Bulging Nipples fucked around with this message at 14:47 on Aug 10, 2011 |

I agree with all this but I thought Covert Coup was excellent, definitely recommend that one. I also enjoyed the "How Fly" mixtape he did with Wiz Khalifa but that sorta depends on how you feel bout Wiz. edit: I really loved Alchemist's production on CC so I'm stoked to be hearing they're planning a sequel. Get a bunch of curren$ys mixtapes and albums (covert coup and pilot talk are my favorites), get young jeezys trap or die 2 tape (if.you don't like this tape you prob won't like jeezy), get wiz khalifas cabin fever tape (best thing he's ever done) get all of outkasts discography except idlewild, get all of Clipse's albums, get all the Freddie gibbs. Most the things I suggested are mixtapes so you can try the artists out free so you don't have to buy something you may not like Bulging Nipples fucked around with this message at 21:22 on Mar 20, 2012 |
