Was this available for pre order? I could have sworn I saw it before somewhere... I spent an unholy amount of time browsing through amazon's kindle section last week though, so that might be it.

Yea, you can get a refund anytime up to 7 days after the original purchase from amazon. I hate to admit it, but I have requested a refund for lovely writing more than once. Learned the hard way not everyone spends time polishing their books up to look nice, some people just have it one step above fan fiction websites. Hell, one book I picked up had loving "leetspeek" in it as the actual writing, and it was not a cyberpunk kinda book. It was an apocalypse kinda virus book. Imagine reading something like "So, the world was like, WHOA and then moving like a t0t4l b4u5, The leed scientist ins3rted his keyc4rd to the l0ck. BOOP and the door opened!". Yea, I asked for my dollar back. I thought it might be a "joke" of some kind, but just random pages through the book were that badly written. 2.99 refund requested shortly thereafter. There are some great self published books, but it's like mining for corn in a river of poo poo.

I read the link, but I don't really agree with it much. Granted, at 99 cents I am way more lenient about a book not being the greatest, but at 5.99 I expect a damned good book and if it seems even the least bit "eh" from the description I don't buy it, or if it sucks I ask for a refund. 2.99 is a nice area for me cause it's basically "gently caress it, it's less than a meal at mcdonalds" so I don't feel the need to really budget out for that. Impulse buying at it's best. 4.99 or 5.99 and up is where it falls into "Ok, do I REALLY want to read this?" and I have to think about it. Most of the time I just add it to my wish list and forget about it. I know I will buy the next Jeff Strand book at 5$ or whatever it is, but some dude I don't know and might not have the best cover art? (yes I do judge a book by it's cover) That's more of a "lost customer" than a "eh, chance it". To me, amazon is a lot like steam. I have games I can't play on my steam list cause my pc isn't man enough to handle it, but gently caress, it was only 2$. Why not get it and just play it on a better computer later? Same goes with amazon. It's 2$, gently caress it, I will read it eventually.

Their writing ends up being good enough, I don't mind spending the cash for a book. Finding a good author in the bajillions on amazon though.. THAT'S the trick

I think one of my favorite pics I ever saw on imgur was some dude who looked at his mom's kindle and one of the books listed was just called ANAL LOVE in all caps.

I thought about writing some "erotica" in order to make some cash, but honestly I cannot seem to actually write out a sex scene to save my life. Nothing like failing at writing porn to make you feel kinda  about how awesome you are in the bedroom.

Mentioned it in the smut thread, but thought I'd mention it here too. Found a pretty cool little program that is for writing and publishing ebooks called Scrivener. Keeps track of word length, characters, plot points, summaries for what happens in what chapter, etc. Kinda cool idea. Haven't used it yet but plan to try it out later in the week. It has the option to automatically print to an amazon ebook that you can immediately upload, so that's kinda nifty to me. Full price version is only 40$, so if it works half as well as I hope it does, the only thing holding me back from being a successful writer will be my motivation and talent!

Just a small note about the stock picture covers. PLEASE do a google image search or something to make sure that it isn't the cover to a bunch of other books. Just as a customer, it's confusing as poo poo to see a bunch of diff books all with the same cover.
