If you end up picking up the Fuji macro, please post about your experience with it. Macro was one of the reasons I stuck with m43 (the Olympus 60mm is so great), and there really isn't much out there about the Fuji.

While I had the 60mm macro, it was a damned good lens. The slow focus thing is overblown, and it is sharp as anything. I sold it because I got it into my head that the (rumoured) 120mm macro would have been more my thing as the 60 was only 1:2 and really, I wanted a 1:1 and that was all bollocks anyways because my photos would be equally garbage at 5:1 ratio.

It's a good lens.

Hey guys, I've had an OG Fuji X100 as my only camera for a few years, and I'm hoping to supplement it with a new mirrorless body that I can change lenses on for more varied use. I love the feel and use of the X100, so I'd like to stick to something similar, which in my budget range has led me to a toss up between the XT-1 and X-ES2. What are your thoughts on one vs. the other? Budget is a concern, which makes the X-ES2 seem like the better option (at around 2/3 the price of the XT-1), but if the XT-1 is that much better, I would certainly consider saving more and waiting to get a more quality body. Either way, I intend to get the XF 18-55 2.4-4 kit lens with it. Has anyone used both, and care to comment?

From an image quality perspective, they're much of a muchness. The X-T1 fit my hand a little better, but the X-E2 was a lot closer to an X100. I think the X-T1 may have had a slightly faster operation than the X-E2, but if you're using an original x100, the X-E2 is going to be stellar. I personally prefer the position of the evf on the X-E2, but I prefer the actual EVF of the X-T1. Is it worth 1/3 more? I don't think so, and that 1/3 can be put toward a 35/2 or 50/2 (both absolutely brilliant).

In Fuji chat, how does the eye AF on newer Fuji bodies compare to Sony? I've been playing around with it on my X-E2s and its pretty hit or miss.

It doesn't. At least, not from any of the videos I've seen.. It usually takes a full second or two to acquire a face and then a little while longer to cotton on to the fact that there might be an eye somewhere in it, and often plants the eye on a cheek or an ear. If you're slow and methodical and using a willing model, it may help, but for the most part the xtrans3 eye-af is just as likely to miss now as it did on the xtrans2 cameras.

Can you elaborate the difference between XH1 and XT3 in shooting video.

The xt3 is more responsive, has better face and eye tracking, loads more phase detect points, 60fps 4k at 400mbps, 10 bit 4:2:0 and 4:2:2, zebras, better rolling shutter performance, colour chrome and monochrome adjustment and gods know what else.

It's very much more suited to pro video work, when you throw it on a gimbal to compensate for the missing IBIS.

For me though, being as I don't do video at all, it's much of a muchness and the xh1 is comfier in the hand and has performance enough that all of that is irrelevant, plus I prefer the evf in the xh1 to the xt3.

It seems to be 100% the focal length, they're both stellar lenses. I'd put the 16 above the 23 in terms of sharpness, and it has a very interesting FOV when you get up close to anything, moreso than the 23. I'm going to shoot some kids hopped up on leftover easter eggs this weekend so it'll be a nice challenge to see how to work with it compositionally. Other than that, it's very much the same as with any of the fujicrons, they're really really nice lenses.

But…muh gear acquisition disorder!

Realistically, in what situations would you pick the X-T30 over the X-T20 when it comes to AF performance?

There's practically none, I had an x-t20, traded it on an x-t3 and the af benefit is marginal at best. There's the whole "can focus in nearly 3 stops less light!!" bollocks, but in practical terms, that's not really true. (I can convince an x-t3 to focus maybe a touch faster than the x-t20 would have in similar situations and I'll have one or two more keepers, but it's more hype than anything else, the x-t20 is *FINE* in almost all situations)

For the prices you can get an x-t20 kit with the 18-55 I would recommend it over pretty any other fuji camera right now, it's superb, built well, has almost everything you'll need, is plenty fast and when the next bangwow awesome fuji kit lands, you can keep the 18-55 and whatever other lenses you buy for the money you saved on the x-t30/x-t3 and trade it for one of those.

The only real benefit I can see in the newer bodies is in video, which I don't personally shoot, so I may as well have kept the t20. A bad photo on a modern body is just as bad as it was on a slightly less, but still very modern body.

There's also the age old question of "where is your gear failing you?"

m43 stabilisation is excellent, lenses are excellent, sealing is excellent, the high res modes are often better than full frame results, it's portable (way more than fuji in some cases) so you'd probably be better off looking at newer m43 bodies which are more than equal to fuji stuff. I mean, you gain what, 2/3 of a stop ISO improvement? Unless the ergonomics of fuji really appeal over the m43, there's no tangible difference between the various bodies on offer, it's all marketing bull.

I don't know if I should be posting this in the MF thread, but I figure here is better because it's not really a medium format camera. Does anyone have any actual real world hands on tactile experience with the gfx50s/r? The 50s price has dropped to worth considering in the last few weeks and I am tempted to trade off a lump of my existing kit on a gfx system with 45, 63, and 120 lenses. I'd keep an xt3 with 16-55 and 50-140 for fast paced portions of weddings but for the slower parts, my x100f with the gfx sounds like it could give really nice results.

Opinions from someone who actually has the system? I'd love to hear views that don't sound like marketing hype.

I've chatted to one of the reps here, they're going to let me use a 50s and some lenses for my next wedding, which is really awesome of them. And probably a really dick move because I foresee myself loving the system the same way I did the xpro1.

It combines with them, depending on the lens it either sets only one axis to the ibis and foists the rest onto the ois or it does a combination of 2 axis on the ibis and pitch/yaw/roll to the ois. It's incredibly good and I can quite easily hit near 1 second exposures with the 55-200 at 200.

I was able to hamfist my way with one yesterday for a little while and it's not amazing by any means. The fixed OVF is a strange choice as I use the different zooms on my xpro2 often. The EVF is nice, though I didn't get to see it in enough varying scenes to see any improvement over the X-T3 viewfinder. I wanted to but completely forget to trial the "smoothed" 200fps viewfinder gimmick, which may have some actual practical use, but other than that the foldaway screen is not a dealbreaker for me, but what was was the fact that I couldn't quickly find a way to change my AF mode - it was on single point and I really wanted to see how it would handle zone or tracking. None of the buttons had it mapped and I didn't want to faff with remapping just before handing it off to the next person.

Also, the durasilver looks pretty in pictures, but was muddy and already grubby looking by the time I saw it (I was maybe the third person to handle it).

I am looking forward to seeing the classic negative blue simulation on the x-t3 though, it renders beautifully.

According to the X100V catalogue, it'll be weather resistant with a screw on tube and filter. I'm not sold on it, unless the lens focuses dramatically faster, as the innards are essentially the x-t3 and while it's speedy and all, that's not the style of shooting I use the 100F for, so it's a bit of a wasted opportunity.
