This one is nice and smooth, slides in and out of the pocket easily, not too bulky. The deep red color version is pretty sweet. Quite thin.

Also have the Seido Surface case in Burgandy: http://store.androidcentral.com/seidio-surface-case/4A123A8059.htm

The Seido is a bit pricy at $28, but I got mine on sale for about $12 which was a much better deal. It has some interior lining to keep the phone's main case from scratching with basic use, but is a bit thicker and "stickier" in your pocket. However, the benefit of "stickier" is that it's less likely to fall out of your hand accidentally.

And if you don't care about the exterior black case getting scratched, a simple screen protector will keep your screen safe while staying as thin as possible. I still hate applying screen protectors though, I always get a drat piece of lint stuck under the fuckers no matter how careful I try to be, and if you don't get the application right on the first time, you may as well throw it away and flush $5-10 down the toilet.

To help you out. Scotch tape will pull lint off of a screen protector without loving it all up. Also. Put the phone higher than the surface you're working on. Like throw it on a book or something and be ocd as poo poo about dust before you lay it down. You can put those on and off 100 times if you keep the work area clean.

It comes with two pre-installed apps. Boo hoo. That's not 'messing with the software' that's coming with two pre-installed apps. They are just normal apps, the OS isn't altered in any way, shape, or form for them to be there.

I have a quick question about rooting, this might be better suited for the actual rooting thread but that one's is a bit intimidating to read through. I am not a computer novice and I can read instructions so the process for the galaxy nexus looks fairly straightforward. It seems that the main advantage of rooting or unlocking the bootloader would be to block adds and give me the easy option of installing stuff that requires root access in the future as the nexus does not appear to have much n the way of Verizon junk running on it. Are there any other advantages for someone who is not (right now anyway) interested in customization? How likely am I do actually damage my phone, permanently or otherwise?

I've kept mine 100% stock.

I'm sure ill root and poo poo eventually, But right now, Its pretty solid without. And this is coming from someone who's rooted, jailbroke, or threw some sort of rom on every smartphone ive owned since the old windows mobile days. I really dig stock on this thing for some reason.

The key to getting them on is thoroughly cleaning your screen and dusting it off with a compressed air can. Apply the protector immediately after removing it's backing as fast as you can line it up. If the protector has cutouts for things like the speaker, LED indicator, microphone, try to line it up with those because having the screen protector over something like the speaker will cause it to bubble in that spot and it's annoying as poo poo.

Use a credit card to push out the air bubbles. The ones you can't push out indicate you have some kind of debris in that spot. I use scotch tape to carefully lift the screen protector to remove whatever the gently caress is stuck underneath and push the bubbles out with my credit card again.

I've got it down to a loving science. I've also done over a thousand or two of them.

You actually peel the whole back off? I always do the "top" or wherever the tag to start pulling is, lay that part down, make sure its straight, then pull it all off. That way I dont have to pick it up 30 times to make sure its straight, then again I shake like loving crazy.

The tape trick, Rules tho, been doing that the last few years working for att and honestly its the best way to unfuckup a screen protector in a hurry.

Cool tip, Packing tape if you dont have canned air works really well for all the little bullshit lint that wont come off or keeps showing up everytime you think its "clean". Just lay down some like you would a screen protector, and peel it off. Pretty quick and dirty, But it works.

A lot can change in a couple years. A $400 deposit doesn't always mean bad credit as I've seen people with that high of a deposit just because they had no credit history whatsoever. Unfortunately, there's simply no way around it. The good news is you will get it back with 3% interest, but almost nobody can stomach a $400 deposit if they have that kind of credit anyway. No offense, as I'm in the same situation you are. My credit's hosed and if I wasn't a verizon employee I would definitely be looking at a deposit and as a consumer I would definitely find another route.

edit: Also, if you checked recently and Verizon is asking for $400, you're likely to see the same requirement on ATT. There's an ATT kiosk right outside of my store and I've seen kids start with us and head to the kiosk and leave both places empty handed and whether or not it's true, Verizon apparently is the most lenient when it comes to credit scoring.

AT&T is brutal. 400 deposit on big red means 500-750 on ATT.

750 PER LINE.

They hate having people off-contract because that person can leave at any time. If you are off contract for any more than a month they start tossing offers at you left and right. Might as well expense with the bullshit and waive the fee upfront.

If I go over to a Verizon store, pick out a phone, have them start the process of ringing it up and then say "there's a $30 upgrade fee", you can't tell me they are going to let me walk out the door without doing anything about it.

If its a corp store they wont care just like we dont really care about retaining customer at a retail level for AT&T.

Dont get me wrong, Reps care about your experience, but upgrade fees are just part of the process. And honestly, Its not hard to box the phone back up and say have a nice day.

Really, Id just call customer service about it and complain, get a credit from retentions later and call it a day. Theres no sense is stressing over it when theres a department purely to give out credits and save customers.

And no Corp LOVES customers out of contract, Its pure profit at that point. If you arnt paying them right now you will later when you realize every other carrier is the same way and at least you're used to the way big red does things.

To be honest, I'm actually shocked verizon had the balls to roll out 30$ fees after AT&T raised theres. Should of kept it off to look like good guys.

So yea, I have no idea what to get, any input would be greatly appreciated.

If the maxx would of been out when I bought my nexus, It would of been a much harder choice for me. I love my nexus, Had very little issues (1 RMA, Charge port stopped working, but Red overnighted a new one, so whatever), I do still deal with the multitouch dead spots thing, so playing some games is really loving annoying when it bugs out. If you're huge into mobile gaming id personally knowing this would of gone maxx. But really, I dont game on my phone, so it dont really effect my actual usage of the phone. :)

If verizons warranty/insurance sucked, I would of returned it and gone maxx. Im still on the fence as I have an upgrade sitting again and am eyeing a maxx myself. But I just really love my phone.

Hope that helps. Its a bit of a ramble, But its just so hard to express how much I really do love my nexus. But i'm also in the industry for this stuff and I dont mind small bugs because the mass of the devices out there have pretty crappy home launches and dialers. They all seem to feel 2001 still and its annoying. I realize I could just root, rom, or just simply replace the launcher, grab a dialer, etc and make it whatever I want. With my nexus I didnt have to do anything. It just all looks pretty good, only has a few tiny things thats annoying, and its 4.0 that isnt broken.

I guess what im sayin, If you dont mind being a beta tester, dealing with delayed updates because of the carrier/google nonsense, and pay for insurance or whatever. Just go nexus. Its alot of fun unless you're a picky rear end in a top hat (Or really do end up getting a few bad back to back, it happens, been there), but for all the ones that dont suck, I really think all of us are having a super time with it.
