What's driving me crazy is that idiot with $9000 of hardware in his kitchen COULD make a killing - if he sold out right now. However, most people can't shake the feeling that "if I just stayed in longer, I could make SO MUCH MORE!" - and he'll probably keep them until the bubble bursts and then he'll have a bunch of valueless internet dollars. Didn't someone say that they did research and you already can't actually sell the things? Also, why do these people not understand that any money they make on this will essentially be stolen from the other people who sell on the wrong side of the bubble?

Sten Freak posted:Wait, so the guy calling in was just some dude who made (or tried to execute) a massively profitable trade? And the guy in the chair is the guy who runs MtGOX? Who are the characters is this tragicomedy? The guy on the feed benefitted from a cheap trade. Summary: MTGOX only allows you to move $1000 a day or $10000 a month. The person who hacked them attempted to sell a very large number of bitcoins from his stolen accounts to other MTGOX users for the lowest possible value - $0.01. This would crash the economy on MTGOX for bitcoins, hopefully down to $0.01 (hopefully from the hacker's perspective, at least). Then, he could easily transfer his remaining bitcoins into his own wallet, as $1000 would then be 100,000 bitcoins. Then, when the market recovered, he could make a LOT of money. This guy saw the cheap bitcoins for sale, and he bought a LOT of them. He bought stolen goods and he's trying to argue that he should get to keep them and he doesn't have a reason why but he REALLY wants them.
