What did MtGOX stand to gain from shutting down the exchange and reverting trades, anyway? Seems to me that they could have just let the trades stand, one guy would have been out a (poo poo ton) of bitcoins, and they'd still have to deal with their glaring security holes, but they wouldn't be getting into the kind of hot water they are now. Or maybe I'm misinterpreting the poo poo they're in, and it's more about the glaring security holes to begin with?

I am expecting the bitcoin clones to start appearing very soon. Hell, if I were involved in bitcoin, I'd start a new one myself, just to make sure I got in early and had the chance to snap up a bunch of easy coins.

It's surprising that nobody competent has tried to make a Bitcoin exchange. Seems like anyone with any level of professionalism could probably easily outdo any of these guys, and even though bitcoins at the end of the day are complete bullshit, there's a decent amount of money to be made by charging people to trade their buttcoins.
