Chromelodeon is one of the best chip bands to ever exist. I'm from the NYC metro area and so I'm at the heart of the chip scene and basically live and breathe it! Good to see someone else talking about it. Fresh off the heels of Blip Fest, I'm still worn out and a bit biased towards those artists, BUT WHO CARES! Some of my favorite stuff ATM: Knife City (Luke from Anamanaguchi) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqDHveF0pg0 Luke is one of my bestest bros and he's working on a full album (I think?)! It's gonna be awesome. He played some of the new stuff at Blip Festival which you can see at the bottom of this post George and Jonathan - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd7Z9SLoq64 These guys know how to bring the party. All of their music is available from http://georgeandjonathan.com + http://georgeandjonathan.com/thebestchristmas Starscream (There new LP "Future Towards the Edge of Forever" is unbelievable) http://starscream.bandcamp.com/track/galeforce Damon is another awesome bro. People were crying because his set @ Blip Festival was so beautiful. Talk To Animals - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1Hryhz4tiQ Never heard her until Blip Fest, but now I'm so hooked. The J. Arthur Keenes Band - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4oXKg5l67w So young and such a talented musician. Blends chip with real instrumentation of various sorts. This is a track off of his upcoming album. Noisewaves - http://noisewaves.bandcamp.com/album/self-titled-e-p Found out about these dudes right before they were announced for Blip. Awesome post-rock w/ a mix of NES. There's so much more, but I'll leave that for another post! All of Blip Festival was recorded and uploaded to YouTube by Emily of the Chip Music Chronicle. You can see the playlists HERE OH! And check out the new Anamanaguchi songs! They're so loving amazing. ANTIMISANDRIST posted:I'm not going to fault anyone for enjoying a particular aesthetic, but isn't it rather weird to group together quite musically dissimilar artists on the basis that they all use synths that sound like old video games? If that single characteristic trumps all other compositional factors enough to warrant this, then it strikes me that the people who enjoy the genre must have a rather shallow relationship with the music. If not, why not discuss each artist in their respective genre thread as indicated by the music's other qualities, rather than lumping everything together on such a superficial basis? I've had this discussion before with other people (Damon is that you?), but at the end of the day chip is a little different. It's hard to explain why. Yes, it is not a genre, but it is something more than just a similar usage of instruments. The best I can do to explain it is this: I loving LOVE ukuleles (this isn't for arguments sake, I really do). Ukulele's sounds don't really change much. They have a certain aesthetic. No matter where they are used I'd like to hear them. Therefore I like to check out songs that feature ukuleles in new and exciting ways. I like the general aesthetic that chip brings to the table. As a lover of music I also like MANY different genres. Therefore I have an interest in hearing the sound of chip, which I love, mixed with other genres of music that I love. I like to see what happens when someone takes their banjo and mixes it with chip synths. It's not a genre, but it is an "instrument", if you will, that I am attracted to just as much as I am to ukuleles!
