Cbouncerrun posted:Chapter 31 I continue to be amazed at how good are these people at figuring things up. During most of this chapter I was pretty worried because I suspected that Annie was the giant, and was leading Eren into a trap. I love the way the series is not married to its twists. The way these things usually go, either increasingly obvious clues are slowly revealed to the point that the twist is already spelled out but you are left waiting until the writer decides to recognize it "officially", or the writer keeps the mistery so close to his chest during so long that no one actually cares when it is finally revealed. Here? The female giant is one of the trainees, is good at hand to hand combat, and resembles Annie. If you didn't figure it out during the same arc that she was introduced, then tough luck, because our characters got it on the very first chapter after it is over. Wow, Zoe is unexpectedly hardcore. The church guys may not be necessarily evil. If they just used the titans to build the walls like Armin assumes and where hiding the truth only to avoid widespread panic. Of course, now it's only a matter of time before some rear end in a top hat goes around making holes in some wall and we get a full wall collapse plus assault of several hundreds of colosal titans. Now we have a group of smallish titans vs the scouting legion and the rookies we haven't seen in some time, so I hope we are getting a rest from all the despair and going for some thrilling but ultimately safe badassness. With some plot twist regarding the direction the titans came from.

I am starting to suspect there is no breach on the wall. The only reason to think so is the titan attack, but it doesn't make a lot of sense the wall got destroyed at some random location when breaking it at it's weakest point, the doors, is already pretty hard. Then there is the titan at Connie's house, which could not have gotten there under it's own power. Maybe it just spawned there, in some way. Maybe that is the origin of all titans currently attacking.

Gyre posted:One thing that I'm really curious about is "why now"? There's all these human-turned-titans suddenly active within the walls, people are (probably) turning into titans, and then you have the hairy guy. What on earth is happening outside the walls that this is happening now? If the titans were able to do these things from the beginning the walls would have long been breached, so something's fishy as all hell. I suspect is due to the wall breaking a few hours ago. What if the wall not only blocks the attacking titans physically, but also emits some radiation or something that prevents the humans inside, all of which are already infected, from turning? The wall priest is still hiding something important from the scout squad, even though hundreds of lives are on the line and the scouts already know about the wall's titan filling. This would be something adequately huge.

I am thinking back to Eren's trial near the beginning of the series, when the MP was talking about the kidnappers he killed as a child, and going on about how, even if it was self-defense, it showed that Eren was dangerous and couldn't be trusted with the fate of humanity. It seemed completely unfair bullshit at the time, but turns out he was totally right!
