Fun callback.

I think Eren wasn't just planning on destroying, I think a part of Billy's speech really resonated with him, as you can tell by the closeup of his face when Billy echoes the statement that Eren himself once made.

But when Billy declares war, Eren's face gets really sad, in contrast to how everyone else is cheering and shedding tears of joy, and decides to go with his plan.
I highly doubt it but this gave me a little inkling of wondering if "I was born into this world" is something an older titan had said and the memories if it being passed down are what these two are echoing.

Oooooh drat... it didn't help he was punching wooden bleachers at the time so my natural thought was "wooden planks."

So the new AoT game is on Steam. It technically doesn't have English support and costs 60 bucks. The OG game was amazing but everything I've seen about the new one seems to indicate it's less about improving the combat and meta-gameplay (which were both great in the first game anyway) and more about adding... date sim bullshit.

That random Twitter person has 493 followers and isn't a foremost expert on either the manga or race studies so instead of posting about her opinion let's all talk about something really important...

24 episodes for the entire uprising arc?! I don't see that happening. The author really thought it needed more time? Seriously? No no no. Unless they plan on adding some poo poo that even manga readers don't know yet, like whatever happened with Annie, I really don't see any good reason to spend that much time. That being said, how long does it usually take for an unannounced-air-date anime to air after a trailer for it comes out? This has to be coming this year, right?

I feel like the anime's current opening was made for people who are reading the manga. It's such a melancholy reminder of where some of them began versus where they are now, and it's a comparison that doesn't quite work as well with where they are in the anime right now. I've seen a lot of people not caught up on the manga not really liking the opening and I think that might be why.
Last season's opening was exactly the same way. Lotsa imagery that doesn't make sense unless you're caught up on manga.

I honestly thought we'd see hosed Up Dad Titan two episodes ago because this part of the manga seemed to move faster than the anime is (while, of course, the anime moved way faster on the rebellion part) but with this past episode's action scene I don't mind it feeling slower.

Just watched the latest episode. As much as I feel like this plotline is officially dragging (I expected Rod the Lumbering Beast to be like.. half an episode because that's how I remembered it in the manga) the fact that the show is really emphasizing just how huge he is and how he's more like a hurricane than a titan makes me glad it's two episodes. Every shot of him is better than I imagined. The preview shot for the next episode makes it look like the cinematography is going into overdrive. I'm excited!

Maybe I'm a sap but I really like the fact that Mikasa gets top billing as the largest of all the shards that make up Eren's memories. We always could've guessed how important she was to him but he never really made it clear up until this very point. And it's a nice turn that Zeke is going to figure out via those memories just how wrong he was about his dumb plan. That's closure few characters in this story get.

I've been playing the AoT2 game on PC and it's pretty silly compared to the first game because you create a character who is tangentially involved with all the happenings of the main plot. As such, you actually go out on the mission to capture Sawney and Beane and if you try to tell Hange she should inspect their napes she's all "NO THAT'LL KILL THEM!" and it's kinda adorable. There's a lot of pre-rendered cutscenes that are first person view, too, so you get a better sense of what it's like flying around in crazy 3DM gear.
Also there's a mode where you can pick any titan you've captured (also there's a capture mechanic) and get a couple of minute to rampage around a city as them. Every run ends with Levi coming along and killing you. It's hilarious because even the aberrant titans keep their goofy walks and runs. It's... a really funny game.

I don't know if it was ever mentioned in the manga or show, but in the game there's an infographic about the forest of tall trees that includes "it's suspected that the geology of the region is what caused the trees to grow so large" and it makes me wonder if the special minerals the world wants from Paradis are going to play into the story any further than "it's why Marley wanted Paradis back."

I've been taking more screenshots of the dumb poo poo in the game.
Here's Armin being curious about who could possibly be the female titan. In one of the subs, he says "Avenge the guy who rushed to his death!" and one of the manga translations is "The guy who was in a hurry to die really fast has died fast! Avenge him!" and in the game it's similarly some dumb phrasing that nobody recalls being used earlier in the story among the 104th. But then... this...

Not only have I never seen anyone refer to Eren as "Mr. Death Wish" but that failed use of a newline character is hilarious.

This is ... uhh... well.....

This is immediately after you capture Annie, when Pastor Nick's role becomes important.

Despite the game having pretty good and accurate titan representation, I am unsure if you can ever capture or play as titans like this lil guy.

Remember when Sasha goes back to her village and finds a little girl with her family being eaten by a titan? You go and rescue her and escort the little girl to safety. However, without her ODM gear and outfit on, she just looks like she's rushing into Area 51.

And for some weird reason, the little child has to jump when she's entering and exiting a bridge you're crossing. Something messed up with the game's collisions I suspect. Still, though, that's quite the vertical leap for a little kid!

The game is fun!

As fun as it is, it's extremely repetitive like a Dynasty Warriors game so I personally don't think the $60 price tag is worth it (I got it for free via a streamer distro site.) However, I do think that if it goes on sale for $40 or less at any point, then it'll be worth it. That's just my own personal value proposition, though. It has a ton of content that would probably take at least 60 hours to get through if you did all of it, if not more than 60, but it's still "find titan, kill titan, upgrade equipment, repeat." If you're into that kind of thing, it makes a great podcast game and is definitely worth full price.

As much as folks here have been trying to be helpful to sort all this stuff out, I... still need a clearer explanation just so I can understand it better in my own head. See, between Eren "having" the coordinate, who does and doesn't have royal blood, and what the founding titan is, I'm really not sure I truly understand what the gently caress is going on and it primarily revolves around "what the gently caress is the founding titan." Like, is it a titan? Is it the attack titan? Did Grisha, having eaten the Reiss family, obtain the founding titan, and thus pass it on to Eren? Do we not know what the founding titan looks like on its own? How exactly does "having the coordinate" factor into all of this? Is the coordinate a native part of the founding titan or is it something separate? Honestly I could keep asking questions but instead of doing that maybe I should organize this all better. Using my previous questions as an example of just how loving confused I'm getting, just answer this and maybe it'll help.
1: What, exactly, is the founding titan? As in, is it its own titan that we have/have not seen yet and/or is it a piece of Eren.
2: What, exactly, can the founding titan do? I know there's poo poo about the rumbling, commanding Ymir, and wiping memories in here.
3: What, exactly, is the coordinate in relation to the founding titan? Honestly for the longest time I thought the founding titan and the coordinate were the same thing.
4: What is it, exactly, that makes Zeke special again? Something about being Frida's son, right? But what makes Frida special? Does she have royal blood?
Honestly I could keep track of everything in Game of Thrones, I don't know why it's so hard to keep this poo poo straight in AoT.

Elias_Maluco posted:

The fact that even Grisha is horrified with Eren's plan enough to prefer Zeke solution makes me think its something really bad
Does Grisha know Eren's plan all the way through, though? I thought he was saying this to Zeke because Eren had forced him to kill children, which he was very much against. If it was a "he's seeing the future via being a titan" thing, was he only just now seeing it having eaten the Reiss family?
