This is hilariously close to an onion article from years back. And when I say "hilariously" I mean "disgustingly."

Also, where do they get this slippery slope bullshit? IIRC, it doesn't lead to much of anything else in any country or state where it's allowed, but they always bring it up.

Slippery slope, buddy! Slippery. Slope.

Love how it goes all :godwin: at the end there.

It's also blinding in its Amero-centrism. The letter talks about the "protestor" as though it was just the Occupy movement, while ignoring the Arab Spring (something I'm pretty sure Time didn't do.) Although I like the idea of people being angry at protestors living under more oppressive regimes being pissy that they didn't obey the cops.

What is it with conservatives not understanding Time's "Person of the Year?"

It's not necessarily a compliment or endorsement, it's simply acknowledgement of an individual(s) who has been extremely important and influential over the past year. I don't think anyone could really dispute that Hitler was one of, if the not the most, important people in 1938.

Time really screwed the pooch by not giving bin Laden the title in 2001.

I think the kid is just mourning the death of our space program, and is trying to get a movement going where people are calling for a return to the moon. At least, that's what i hope. :allears:

Is this a reference to something I'm not familiar with, or is "traveler" the new way for racists to say "black"?

Regarding the one posted by constantIllusion, I do wonder why Romney isn't trotting his kids out at every available opportunity. I have seen them exactly once, in an interview. They seem like normal, well spoken people. It'd help humanize Romney, at the very least.

So, "banning profit" would entail what? Because I could actually see a bill suggesting that 100% of gross income be paid out in some fashion. It probably wouldn't be a net great idea, but it would solve the "corporations literally sitting on more money in history" problem that we have now.

^^^ More importantly, that person is probably on disability too, or would be if they didn't earn more than the ridiculously low cap on SSDI of $1,010 a month. That's right, if you earn more than $12k annually you cannot collect SSDI anymore because that's too much "meaningful gainful activity" to be disabled.

:eng101: Actually, that's true for DIB, the insurance side of things too (you qualify for DIB by having paid in FICA taxes and what not). SSDI is resource tested, which means (i think - this is a bit outside my range of knowledge) if you own too many things, the system won't pay out.

But yeah, the criteria for social security disability is pretty strict, and as someone who's job it is to know that criteria, screw anyone who thinks millions are getting paid just because one day they go "hmm...my knee has been acting up lately. Better go on the dole!"

Recently, it was made public that over the years PSY has participated in several "anti-American" protests. In 2002, in opposition to the 37,000 U.S. troops stationed on the Korean Peninsula, PSY painted his face gold and, similar to comedian Gallagher smashing watermelons onstage, PSY, as part of his act demolished a model of a U.S. military tank.

This is one of those "only the US is allowed to have a foreign policy" things. Can you imagine the poo poo storm the writer of this piece would raise if another country kept a significant military presence on US soil?

Thanks for the Tim Rice stuff, thread.

Also, The Onion pretty much perfectly summed up that "To not be poor" thing way back in 1997.
