Very few people know that if you hit it just right, you can put a nail into a window without breaking it.

Okay, ignore the whole "hammering a window" thing and watch the nail. Not only does the person pull the nail away before they hammer, the nail stretches as they do so. Where is the extra nail coming from, what is happening in any aspect here.

I think there's a hole in the window that they're pulling a nail through. Although I still don't get anything else about the scene.

But shouldn't we be able to see the rest of the nail on the other side of the window if that was the case? I think that nail is CGI or greenscreened in or something.

I think the nail isn't being pulled away at first but pivoted sideways while still set against the window, which in combination with the sudden jerking motion afterwards is causing a perspective illusion of it appearing to be stretched.

Also my dad used to have that exact same type of hammer with the brown banded handle, good thing we never tried driving nails through glass!

Not only is it a annoying commercial for the song, but it also does that thing that commercials do where they compare two entirely separate things. Like, the remote I use doesn't make the service any better. The two aren't related!

My favorite part of Comcast commercials is how they still try to compare their download speeds (represented by a "download" bar slowly turning green, natch) to loving DSL. Why don't they just go full retard and compare themselves to dialup as long as they're competing against services nobody has used in 10 years?

I don't know about other markets, but it makes sense here. Comcast's only real competition for internet service is CenturyLink DSL, which is what I currently have (the lesser of two evils and all).

About that: http://www.broadbandmap.gov/technology

DSL is still extremely common outside of metropolitan areas, where the costs to run cables far outweigh the profit, and still pretty common within them, where it's usually the cheaper option that still lets you watch cat videos just fine

Yeah, plenty of places where Comcast (or some other cable company) has a virtual monopoly thanks to local exclusivity contracts, "crony-ism", etc...

If you're lucky, there's something like FIOS or U-Verse, but most people have the choice between the one cable provider or the one DSL provider.

I lucked out because I'm on the coverage range of a nice, municipal fiber telecom. I've got 150 Mbps service for $55/month, but I could up that to 1 Gbps for only $70/month.

Which is part of the downside...the price. At least with Comcast, you can fairly easily convince them to keep you at a "promo" rate for years, so you get internet, TRV, DVR, HBO, etc... for less than $100/month. That price for that local telecom is just internet, their TV packages are crazy expensive, and they don't have any sort of promos other than a small discount if you're a college student.

My parents had DSL until 2014, and it was only by moving (and having the new DSL company gently caress up majorly) that they got cable internet.

This is a fairly urban area too.
