Just really waiting for this "Found Footage" genre of movie to die out, because the trailers are terrible. It never fails that following formula is as follows: -Terrible dialogue between no-name actors. -Some line like "What Happened?", as everything goes silent -Some use of the "Hoover sound" within the trailer, repeatidly within the trailer, till it speeds up, and then stops. -A scream (generally a women's) at the end of said trailer. This would be the most recent example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuV_P70pfoc

Alfred P. Pseudonym posted:I posted the Prometheus/Coors commercial earlier in this thread but I think it's been topped. Tonight, I forgot to turn off my television after the NBA playoff game and there was a Prometheus ad framed by ESPN personality/rear end in a top hat Stephen A. Smith yammering about getting your Prometheus tweets on SportsCenter I had thought I was the only one who was actually offended about that. You know, I understand it's just basic marketing, but it came off as just really tacky. It also proved to me that someone like Stephen A. Smith should never, ever be referred to as a "Sports Journalist" or a "Reporter".

DJExile posted:It's a dumb spot but what's exactly offensive? It's a 'prequel' sci-fi movie for nerdy fanboys being promoted by some goofball TV personality. Maybe offensive was the wrong word. I have no problem with the movie itself, just the advertisement didn't sit well with me for some reason. Maybe it's just because Stephen A. Smith is terrible and should not be on TV.

The Target "Back to School" ads are terrible. It's not that I was a huge fan of the songs they used to parody, but they just make them extremely ear coveringly bad. Also, "Back to School" ads suck in general. Even as someone who's towards the end of their education, and is in College, there's a certain buzz killing effect to them.

Just heard a Skrillex song for a K-Mart Back to School commercial. It felt really out of place. Usually if it was for Alcohol or a Car commercial, an electronic song usually fits there. But for little kids doing their own little on the spot fashion show? not so much.

the "You kids have it easy" commercial from AT&T bugs the hell out of me. The little kid has a friend over, and they're playing on a laptop and an IPad respectably. The hell is the point of having your friend over if you're not going to go play outside, play a game inside, talk with him or hell..even just play a loving video game? Go play with legos or hot wheels. Go make a movie with a camera, go shoot some hoops, go play madden head to head. Go ride your bikes, Go play in the woods, Don't waste your time watching "Gagnam Style" for the 50th time. It just pisses me off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASLQhVNfFeA "You kids have got it too good if you ask me" Yeah, gently caress off. No kid under 14 should own an IPad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=trueview-instream&v=0-JgJGU5wXo just had this come up while trying to watch a music video. I don't want to see a lovely looking CGI Gummy Bear dancing Gangam Style, I especially don't want you to call it cute when it looks like a loving middle-aged man in a green bear costume (Complete with stubble and grungy briefs.), I especially don't want to see it on the supposed to be ad-free Boomerang. Can I just watch my retro cartoons without being reminded that stupid things like this exist? I'm really at a loss as to why Jamster is still in existance. I recall cringing when their ads first starting airing back in 2005, pre-smart phone era. Kind of in a "Why the hell would someone spend money on such a poo poo ringtone" sort of way, and then they had ads for "Text 34566 to see if your boyfriend is right for you, or your daily horoscope" sort of garbage. In the world of iphones and androids, their customer base should be down to exactly zero people, yet I still see ads. My only other explanation is that there's some really dumb 12 years old that must still download this stuff.

The home made pb and j is probably way better nutritionally for you, and you also have better control over what side dishes you can have, drinks, etc. There's nothing wrong with an ad that goes "Eh, what the hell, take a break, go chill with your friends at Mickey D's, and get a Big Mac" There is something wrong when you're kind of being all against Popcorn (something that is actually a pretty decent snack food health wise) and Veggies ( Which I may add are quite addicting when you have Hummus as a dip.)

Olympus has fallen is using an ad with the EAS code playing over and over again. it's annoying. I also sincerely believe that sound should be specifically only be used either during a legitimate artistic usage within a film (such as "The day after") or you know..during an emergency.

Nerdfest X posted:I think Fuzzy means that they should not use what might be interpreted as an actual EAS message in a commercial (War of the Worlds radio broadcast). Within the movie is fine, but dont use that in the commercial. Generating interest in a fictional film for the purpose of increased ticket sales is not an emergency. Exactly. If for example I have a feeling that a bad, bad storm is going to hit within my area (be it blizzard or a tornado) the last thing I should be hearing is a fake alarm in a commercial. The reason why that tone of sound is used is for that exact reason (hence why it's ear piercingly loud and annoying). It shouldn't be used to market your product. I also shouldn't have to mute your ad every time because of it. Again, fine with it being used in a TV show or movie in which it's used to illustrate some sense of realism during an actual legit emergency. Hell, I'm rather interested in seeing that angle of things.
